DNA lead to Handgun Arrest

 

 

On March 11, 2014 The City of Poughkeepsie Police responded to 718 Main Street for a report of people with guns. Several subjects who were walking away from the area were stopped and several handguns were found near where the subjects were seen walking. These subjects were interviewed by Detectives and released as the handguns at that time could not be placed in their possession.

 

 

The guns were processed for DNA and sent to the New York State Police Lab. On September 19, 2014 Lab results came back showing that DNA from one of the handguns, a 22 caliber revolver, matched that of one of the subjects stopped walking away from the handguns in March.

This subject, a 16 year old City resident, was charged today with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree a class C felony. He was arraigned before Judge Wolfson Town of Wappinger Falls Justice and Released on his own Recognizance till the end of October. To date there have been 37 handguns recovered in the City of Poughkeepsie and 11 people have been shot this year in the
