Synthetic Marijuana

On 4/30/15 the York City Police Department initiated a two prong approach to the recent psychotic episodes related to the use of synthetic marijuana.  Three weeks prior, the patrol division and intelligence unit recognized that nine cases had surfaced of extreme psychotic episodes related to the use of synthetic marijuana.  A two prong approach was initiated, first to address the problem as a public health issue and then an enforcement issue.  The public health approach involved amnesty for anyone wanting to turn in any synthetic marijuana and a visit to local businesses.  No synthetic marijuana has been turned in, however, in the three week since the initiation of the public health approach, the York City Police Department has only one recorded incident of a psychotic episode related to synthetic marijuana.  The second prong of enforcement will now be initiated.
