Update on Investigation of Deceased Dogs

On July 11, 2015 at 7:11 p.m. a woman ran up to a City of Poughkeepsie Police Officer who was working the Balloon Festival in Poughkeepsie and reported to him that several minutes before she had witnessed two subjects open the trunk of their car and discover that their two dogs were deceased. The two people got into their car and drove off; the woman was able to photograph the vehicle before it left.


The Police Officer reported this information to Police Headquarters, which issued a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) for the vehicle. The vehicle was not found. The vehicle came back to a New York City address.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Yu Inamora was visiting the Balloon Festival with his family and two dogs. The dogs were left in the cargo area of an SUV for approximately one hour. When he returned to the vehicle it was discovered that the dogs were unconscious and suffering from a heat related emergency. Mr. Inamora immediately brought the dogs to a local emergency animal hospital. The dogs did not survive. Mr. Inamora was contacted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and fully cooperated with the investigation. On July 14, 2015 Mr. Inamora came to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and was charged with a violation of Section 353 of the New York State Agricultural and Markets Law, a class A misdemeanor in which a person unjustifiably injures or kills any animal.
