On Thursday, July 23, 2015 at approximately 10:36 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police Dispatch received several calls in regards to shots fired in the area of Mansion Street and Winnikee Avenue. Responding officers observed a suspicious subject wearing a backpack in the area. This subject immediately fled into a building then quickly exited it when officers approached him. This subject was detained upon his exit from the building and the backpack was retrieved. During the investigation, a chrome, .380 caliber Davis Industries semi-automatic handgun was located inside the backpack. This weapon was apparently used in this shots fired incident.

Kareem A. Brown, 43, a City of Poughkeepsie resident, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony; and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony.

A criminal history check revealed that Kareem Brown had a prior arrest for murder in the 1st degree in 1991 but a conviction for manslaughter in the 1st degree.
