Safety Release from Homewood City Schools and Homewood Police Department
The Homewood Board of Education
and Homewood Police Department have been working for the past several years to
better secure our schools and ensure the safety of all of our
students. In light of recent events in Florida and across the
country, the school board and the police department continue to be proactive in
maintaining a safe learning environment for all students and staff members.
There is now one full-time
school resource officer assigned to every school as a result of collaboration
efforts between the police department, school system, and city officials. A
second resource officer has been added to Homewood High School and Homewood
Middle School as well. The police department has also increased
uniform patrols around the premises of each school.
The Mayor and our city officials
continue to partner with the school system to ensure that the safety of
students and staff members remain a top priority.
Through Homewood City Schools’
Strategic Plan, facility upgrades and renovations will begin this summer. The
design plans include secure vestibules, control access systems, and updated
security cameras in all five schools. In addition to the upcoming facility
changes, the police department is assessing the current safety measures of the
system while assisting with the implementation of any additional school
protocols.
The collaboration between the
city, school board, and police department is a true testament to the city’s
dedication to children, schools, and safety.
