Boston Police: E-18 Hyde ParkLarceny AdvisoryWe are experiencing an increasing amount of reports for persons posing as utility workers coming to peoples' homes wherein they come in teams of two to three people and ask the person answering the door to lead them to the basement to inspect the water pipes. While the resident leads one of the team to the basement, the others in the team will go throughout the residence and ransack bedroom areas of valuables. They even sometimes cut the telephone line so the resident cannot access 911 Emercency. The best practice is not to let anyone into your house unless you initiated the call for service. Utility workers should have proper identification. Before allowing access to your home, verify with the utility that work is being done in your area and that the individual at your door is in fact, an employee of that utility. If you have any doubt, please call 911 and let Boston Police Officers respond to discern whether these persons are actual utility workers. Persons posing as Boston Water and Sewer employees has been the most common ruse being reported relative to these larcenies. As always, STAY SAFE! Sgt.
