On July 26, 2013 members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit and Emergency Services Unit conducted a search warrant at 44 High Street apartment 3. This search warrant was the end result of a four month investigation into cocaine sales at the location.
As a result of the investigation, NRU members recovered a quantity of cocaine, a loaded Ruger .44 Magnum revolver, an unloaded Rossi .38 revolver, sixty-one (61) rounds of .380 caliber ammunition and a bullet resistant vest.
James Reed (date of birth 1/3/71) the resident of this location, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony. Further, James Reed was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony. Additional criminal charges are pending against James Reed.
Fateen Akbar (date of birth 10/7/84), a City of Poughkeepsie resident, was also arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony. In addition, Fateen Akbar was charged with various vehicle and traffic violations.
James Reed and Fateen Akbar were arraigned at City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
