Teen Arrested With Stolen Handgun
On Thursday, Aug. 8, at approximately 5:56 p.m., two City of Poughkeepsie Police officers stopped a couple in the area of 14 S. Clinton St. to issue them a city ordiance ticket after observing an infraction. A further investigation revealed that the male half of the couple was in possession of a handgun. He resisted arrest but officers were able take him into custody. The handgun he possessed, a loaded .45 caliber semiautomatic, was subsequently found to be stolen.
The male is a 16-year-old city resident who may be eligible for youthful offender status. He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies; resisting arrest, a misdemeanor; and a city ordinance. He was held pending arraignment.
