The caller was walking a dog on the path around the reservoir and observed a body floating on the surface of the water. The body was recovered with the assistance of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division and the Dutchess County Regional Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. The body has been identified, through a tattoo, as Eleuterio Agustin, who was a 35-year-old Hispanic male, approximately 5’3” tall weighing 130 lbs., who was currently homeless in the City of Poughkeepsie area. He also used the alias of Orlando Cruz. The tattoo was on his left forearm and was of a heart with a rose and the name “Becky.”
On Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy on the victim. Based upon the findings at the autopsy, it appears that the time of death was roughly 48 to 72 hours prior to the discovery of the body. This means that the time of death could have been sometime between the afternoon hours on Wednesday, Aug. 7 and Thursday, Aug. 8. At this time, it does not appear that the death is suspicious or criminal in nature, and may be accidental. However, detectives are conducting an investigation and would like to speak to anyone with any information about the recent whereabouts and activity of Eleuterio. In addition, it is unknown if he had any family in the area. Eleuterio was known to frequent the area of Main Street in the City of Poughkeepsie as well as the College Hill area.
