Clinton Street Shooting Investigation
On Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at approximately 9:51 p.m. members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to the area of 7 S. Clinton St. for a report of shots fired. Responding Officers found JESSE HERRING, a 38-year-old city resident, shot in the arm and leg. The victim was unable to identify anyone responsible other than it was a person in all black clothing.
A search of the area revealed a knapsack which contained a 40 caliber handgun and narcotics. After an investigation, the knapsack and its contents were identified as belonging to the victim. It was also determined after investigation that the victim and the subject in all black clothing had been shooting at each other. The victim was taken to SFH ER where he was treated for his wounds. He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony. He was arraigned by Judge Mora and turned over to Dutchess County Jail.
Also found during the investigation into this shooting was a safe that was found to contain two additional handguns. The investigation into who may have possessed these two handguns is continuing. The handguns recovered during this incident bring the total handguns recovered this year in the City of Poughkeepsie to 55.
