Man Arrested for Stolen Gun, Assault
On April 15, 2014, at approximately 1:23 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers responded to the area of 51 Garden St. for a report of a male/female domestic altercation.
Upon arrival both the victim and suspect were located outside and the suspect was ordered to stop as he walked toward a vehicle that was on the scene. A .40 caliber handgun was located at the suspect’s feet and he was found to be holding the magazine to the weapon in his hand. The recovered handgun was reported stolen from Newport News, VA, and the suspect was identified as Tiron Lyons, 27, of the City of Poughkeepsie.
After Lyons was taken in to custody, officers discovered several glassine envelopes containing heroin in the rear of the patrol car used to transport him to police headquarters, where additional envelopes of heroin were located. He was charged with evidence tampering, felony criminal mischief, criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell, second-degree assault, third-degree and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property, felonies. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief for destroying his victim’s cell phone as she tried to call 911 for police assistance. Lyons, who is currently on parole, was held pending arraignment.
