Boston Police: E-5 West Roxbury

BOSTON WATER AND SEWER COMMISSION TESTING

Over the next few years, contractors working for the Boston Water and Sewer Commission will be conducting investigations throughout the city to determine where there are building sewer connections to storm drains.  Building sewer connections to storm drains allow unrelated sewage to discharge to local waterways and wetlands.  Investigations will take place in West Roxbury and in Roslindale.

The Boston Water and Sewer Commission has informed the Boston Police Department that the contractors include CH2MHILL and its subcontractors Stacey DePasquale Engineering and National Water Main Cleaning.  All field personnel will carry photo identification that includes the Commission logo, as well as the firm’s logo.

This program will include inspection of storm drain outfalls and manholes in the street.  If evidence of sewage is found in a storm drain, the sewer service connections to buildings adjacent to the storm drain will be dye tested.  If this testing needs to be done, owners and occupants of the buildings will be notified.

If the Commission needs to enter your residence, they will make arrangements with you to complete necessary work.  There is no cost to the owner.

The Community Service Office would like remind residents to be cautious when allowing workers into their home.  Never allow entry to individuals who approach your residence to “do work” or “check something” if you have not been informed by the company beforehand.  If you ever question the validity of an individual who approached your home, do not answer the door and as always, call 9-1-1 for assistance.
