HELPFUL TIPS

The Area E5 Community Service Office would like to follow up on a Citizen’s Alert sent last Friday regarding tire theft.  Below are some preventative tips and helpful information to assist residents in preventing crime.

Officers have discovered that the most frequently stolen wheels are from:

• Honda
• Nissan
• Toyota
• Acura

This doesn’t mean these are the only cars targeted, so in order to prevent yourself from theft we recommend the following:

• Lock and park your motor vehicle in a well lit area, if possible.

• If you have an alarm on your car, use it!

• Look out for any out of the ordinary incidents, particularly late in the evening, such as loud noises or bangs, dogs barking at the window, or the activation of motion censored lights.  We recommend looking out your windows, discreetly, and if you do see something or someone suspicious, call 9-1-1.  Do not try to scare them off yourself.

• Consider investing in a wheel lock.  These locks are available at any auto store starting as low as $12.99.
