Juvenile Charged in Burglary

On Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, City of Poughkeepsie Police Detectives arrested a 13 year old juvenile, a resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, stemming from a burglary which occurred on Dec. 29, 2011 at approximately 8:15 p.m. at 10 Rinaldi Blvd., the Rip Van Winkle Apartments. The juvenile allegedly entered an occupied apartment and removed unwrapped Christmas presents. The juvenile was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree. The stolen property was not recovered.

Police Seek Info on Vandalism to Sign

Sometime between 9:00 pm on Sunday, Jan. 29 and 2:45 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 the sign welcoming motorists to the City of Poughkeepsie from the bridge approach was vandalized. Man Who Absconded from Drug Trial Arrested

On February 2, 2012 the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Neighborhood Recovery Unit along with the Hudson Valley Safe Streets Gang Task Force attempted to locate Michael Williams, who had an active Dutchess County Bench Warrant for third-degree Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance after he absconded from his trial and was found guilty on all charges.

Williams was located in an apartment at Southgate Village Apartments in the Town of New Windsor. The NRU was assisted by the FBI, New York State Police and the Town of New Windsor Police Department.

Michael Williams surrendered without incident at approximately 8:30 p.m. Williams was remanded to Dutchess County Jail without bail. Sentencing is scheduled for March 8, 2012.

Search Warrant Leads to Arrest

On Jan. 31, 2012, at approximately 5:50 p.m., members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit executed a search warrant at 29 Lent St., second floor apartment. Arrested just prior to the search warrant was a resident of the apartment, Damon L. Patterson, 20, who was taken in to custody in the area of 105 Smith St.

During the course of the search, 90 glassine envelopes of heroin, $481, a digital scale and packaging materials were recovered.

Patterson was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class B felony. He was held pending arraignment.

Police Continue Search for Missing Woman

Walsh was last seen leaving her residence at 1 Gerald Drive off of Rinaldi Boulevard in the City of Poughkeepsie on Nov. 7, 2011 at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Walsh has a history of mental health issues and may not be fully aware of her situation or surroundings.

Man Arrested for Growing Marijuana

On Jan. 5, City of Poughkeepsie Police received a report regarding a marijuana grow at 58 Delafied St, second floor. The Fire Department had responded to said address regarding a water leak in the basement. During their investigation they discovered the remnant of a marijuana grow on the second floor. The first and second floors of this residence were vacant and the occupant of the third floor, Ricardo Torres-Palacio was brought to headquarters and interviewed by members of the Detective Bureau. During the course of the investigation it was determined that the grow was in fact not in use at this time and there was no criminal charges applicable at this time.

The building department was contacted and responded and deemed the building condemned. Central Hudson cut the power and gas service to the residence. The water was also cut to the residence. Palacio was brought back to the residence to retrieve his belongings and a dog due to the fact that the building was condemned and had no services. He was escorted to his apartment by officers and when he opened the door officers observed a potted marijuana plant inside the residence in plain view. He was placed into custody and transported back to headquarters. A search warrant was obtained and executed at 7:06 p.m. Approximately 20 marijuana plants were seized, marijuana growing materials (hydroponic lamps and generators) were seized, and 14 ounces of dried marijuana was seized. Also seized was a small quantity of powder cocaine, 11 grams of Silocybin (magic mushrooms), scales and $287. Palacio was held pending arraignment. He was charged with the following:

Search Warrant Leads to Two Arrests

On Jan. 4, 2012, at approximately 1:30am, members of the City of Poughkeepsie Emergency Services Unit (ESU) executed a “no knock” search warrant at 556 Main St. in the City of Poughkeepsie. This search warrant was the result of a two month joint investigation between the Dutchess County Drug Task Force and the City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit (NRU) into narcotic sales and possession from this location. The following individuals were arrested after being apprehended inside the residence.

Emiliano Davila, 46, residing at 556 Main St., City of Poughkeepsie

A 17-year-old male, residing at 556 Main St., City of Poughkeepsie

During a search of the residence, agents recovered 321 bags of heroin, 15 bags of crack cocaine and 50 bags of marihuana. Packaging materials, scales and other narcotic related material was located. Additionally, approximately $1500 in cash was seized. Both suspects were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3^rd degree, a Class B Felony. Both subjects were arraigned in City Court by Judge Maloney; Emiliano Davila was remanded to Dutchess County Jail on no bail and the 17-year-old was remanded to DCJ on $25,000 cash over $50,000 bond.

Suspicious Subjects Seen Near Vehicles

During the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 27, City of Poughkeepsie Police were called by an alert citizen who reported two supicious subjects who appeared to be looking in to vehicles in the area of Corlies Avenue and Emmott Place.

Officers stopped two individuals who matched the description provided by the caller - a 22-year-old white male and a 20-year-old black female. Both subjects were found to be in possession of numerous coins. An investigation revealed three unlocked vehicles that appeared to have been rummaged through. The vehicle owners were contacted and advised that nothing was taken.

Because they could not be tied to any crime, the subjects were subsequently identified and released.

Two Charged in Robbery

City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 195 Mill St. for a report of a robbery on Friday, Dec. 23, at approximately 5:36 p.m.

The victim, who was threatened by three individuals who forcibily took his property, pointed out a Mill Street address into which the suspects had fled. Officers located two of the suspects who were positively identified by the victim.

Arrested were: Christopher E. Daniels, 23, and Timothy M. Mahler, 24, both of Poughkeepsie. Both were charged with first-degree robbery.

Man Charged with Possession of Illegal Gun

On Dec. 10, at approximately 10:29 a.m., members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit conducted a vehicle and traffic stop in the area of 25 S. Clinton St. During the course of the traffic stop, Maurice Eady, 20, was brought out of the vehicle and a loaded 38 special revolver fell from his waistband. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, a Class C felony.

Burglaries in Southside

There have been some recent burglaries in the upper south section of the City of Poughkeepsie. They have primarily occurred during day-time hours and in some cases involved homes with doors left unlocked.

Teen Charged in Robbery; Second Suspect Sought

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, a 15-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident was charged with two counts of attempted robbery stemming from a police investigation into two separate attempted robberies on Verrazano Boulevard. At approximately 5:15 p.m., the City of Poughkeepsie 911 Center received a report of a robbery in progress on Verrazano Boulevard. Officers responded to the scene and the 15-year-old was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. Police located two victims who told them that they had been approached from behind and knocked to the ground but were able to flee before the robbery was completed.

This same 15-year-old was also charged with a robbery that occurred on Nov. 7 in the area of 87 Delafield St.

Vehicles Broken Into in Lower Main Street Area

Four vehicles were broken in to overnight in the Lower Main Street Area around Union and Delano streets. In one case a car window was smashed in. A purse, a wallet and a GPS device were among the items stolen.

Man Arrested in Copper Theft

On Friday, Oct. 21, at approximately 1 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers were dispatched to 24 High Street, a vacant house, for a report of a possible burglary in progress. Officers found a subject inside the building, removing copper piping. He was identified as Robert W. Cole Jr., 29, homeless, and he was taken in to custody without incident. Cole was charged with second degree burglary, possession of burglar's tools and petit larceny.

Search Warrant Leads to Drugs, Weapons

On Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at approximately 6:37 p.m. the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Neighborhood Recovery Unit, assisted by members of the Community Policing Division and Patrol Division, executed a search warrant at 216 Winnikee Ave., Apt 1. The target of the investigation, Lawrence Allen, 29, was taken into custody just prior to the execution of the search warrant in the area of 73 Pershing Ave. Located inside the apartment were Shaquana Argula, 22, and her four year old son. All three subjects are residents of 216 Winnikee Ave., Apt 1.

During the execution of the search warrant 3.8 ounces of powder cocaine and 2.6 ounces of crack cocaine were recovered (total of 6.4 ounces). Also found was a 38 Special revolver with a defaced serial number and six rounds of .38 cal ammunition. A Smith and Wesson 9mm semiautomatic handgun with three loaded magazines was also located. $6,550.00 in United States Currency was also found. Also found were narcotic packaging materials.

Dutchess County Child Protective Services were contacted and took custody of the child.

Allen and Argula were both charged with the following:

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2^nd a Class AII felony;

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3^rd a Class D felony;

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4^th(2 counts) a Class A misdemeanor;

Endangering the Welfare of a Child a Class A misdemeanor.

Allen was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3^rd a Class B felony.

Tip Leads to Gun Arrest

At approximately 2:00 p.m. today, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a call via the confidential Tip Line reporting a man with a gun in the area of 120 Hudson Ave. Upon their arrival, officers observed a male matching the caller's description and detained him at gunpoint. He was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun and was taken in to custody on a felony charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He has been identified as David O. Flack, 26, of the Town of Poughkeepsie.

Gun Arrest on Charles Street

City of Poughkeepsie Police arrested a 22-year-old city man on a felony charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon on Wednesday night in the area of 21 Charles Street.

The Neighborhood Recovery Unit had received information concerning an armed subject. They, along with members of the Detective Bureau, Community Policing and Patrol set up a perimeter of the area at approximately 10:30 p.m.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., the subject was observed in front of Building 9 and officers attempted to take custody of him, but he ran into the building and hid in an apartment. A short time later the suspect jumped out of the second floor window and was taken into custody. The apartment was searched and a loaded .32 caliber handgun was located under a mattress in a child's bedroom, the same room from which the suspect jumped out the window.

The suspect was identified as Leon M. Jackson Jr. A City of Poughkeepsie Police Officer suffered an injury to his shoulder during the incident.

Gun Call Leads to Search

On Oct. 4, at 11:02 a.m. the City of Poughkeepsie Police were notified of a man with a gun in the area of Fox Terrace. Several units responded to the area and a description of the suspect was obtained. The suspect was determined to have been in the area of Garfield, Academy and Montgomery Streets. A perimeter was established and area backyards and garages were searched using Officers, K9’s and a helicopter from the NY State Police Aviation Unit. The suspect was not apprehended. One person, a 17-year-old City resident was arrested and charged with Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

Man Arrested on Weapon Charges

On Friday, Sept. 30, at 10:47 p.m., Trevor Dancy, a 21-year-old city resident, was arrested on warrants for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2^nd degree and Criminal Use of a Weapon 2^nd degree, both C felonies. The charges stem from an incident which occurred on Noxon Street, on July 30, 2011, during which Dancy shot at another person who was not struck by the bullets. Stolen Handgun Recovered Following Foot Pursuit

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, shortly after 11 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers observed two subjects engaged in suspicious behavior in the area of Winnikee Avenue and Harrison Street. When officers attempted to conduct a Field Interview of the subjects, they both fled in different directions. One of them was clutching a bulge in his clothing. This subject, later identified as Walter Blue, was apprehended behind 48 Harrison St. and a semi-automatic handgun was recovered. The other subject was detained on Winnikee Avenue. He was later issued a city ordinance ticket and released.

An investigation revealed that the recovered handgun had been reported stolen out of Wappingers Falls. Blue, 23, was charged with 4^th degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and 2^nd degree Criminal Possession of Weapon. He was held pending arraignment.

Foot Pursuit Leads to Gun Charges

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, just before 6 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers stopped a rental vehicle at Harrison Street and Bement Avenue for vehicle and traffic violations. One of the occupants fled the vehicle on foot. Officers observed a bulge at his waist which he was grabbing; they chased him and the vehicle fled the scene. Additional officers pursed the vehicle, which crashed on Milton Street and West Arnold Road. The driver fled on foot and the remaining occupant was taken in to custody.

The first foot pursuit ended when the suspect was located in the basement of a residence in the area of Harrison Street and Winnikee Avenue. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered and the suspect, Michael A. Nicholas, 25, was charged with second degree and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal trespass, and fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The driver who fled was located by Town of Poughkeepsie Police officers in the area of Ridgefield Apartments. He was identified as Noel L. McClinton, 29, and was charged with reckless driving, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and several traffic violations.

The third occupant of the vehicle was released without charges.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police assisted city police by conducting an area search, a K-9 search, and transporting prisoners.

Man Arrested for Possessing Illegal Gun

On Sunday, Sept. 18, at approximately 7:23 p.m., members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to the area of Hulme Park for a report of shots fired. A description of the suspect was obtained and reponding officers located him on Noxon Street and took him into custody. He was identified as Jamaal Cherry, 34, of Poughkeepsie. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered from Cherry, who was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. No one was injured in the incident.

Teen Charged After Vehicle Break-in

An 18-year-old city resident was arrested early Saturday morning after he was found to be in possession of a purse stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Rinaldi Boulevard.

The victim reported her purse stolen to City of Poughkeepsie Police just before 1 a.m. on Sept. 10. A suspect was developed during the course of the investigation. This suspect was later observed riding a bicycle near the train station and respondinig officers found him to be in possession of the victim's purse.

Justin Richardson was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a Class E felony. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Upper Northside Flooding, Limited Travel Areas, Bus Route Suspension & Water Pressure Issue

Upper Northside Flooding

Due to the most recent storm, many of the streets located in the Upper Northside are experiencing flooding issues. As a precautionary measure, the Salvation Army and Red Cross have set up a Reception Center for local residents at the Salvation Army Building located at 19 Pershing Avenue. Residents of the Upper Northside who were previously affected by the flooding event after Hurricane Irene should be prepared to leave their homes in the event that a voluntary evacuation notice is issued. Water Pressure Issue - Southside

A broken water system line was located last night and DPW crews have temporarily restored service to a majority of residents. Water pressure may still not be at optimal levels while the crews work to repair the line. Residents at Springside, West Winding Road and Loockerman Avenue are still experiencing water pressure issues. DPW crews are on scene working to restore pressure to the affected areas.

On Friday, Aug. 12 at approximately 9:30 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers in the area of Academy heard what sounded like a gun shot. Upon further checking the area, they observed a subject who took off running. This subject ran in to an apartment building on Academy Street near Montgomery Street.

While checking the building for the suspect, several subjects were located and detained. Recovered at the scene were a loaded .38 Special Smith and Wesson handgun and a 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun. Also recovered was approximately three ounces of powder cocaine and approximately six ounces of crack cocaine.

Arrested was: Jeffrey S. Johnson II, 21, of Harrison Street on felony charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Also arrested was a 17-year-old city male who may be eligible for youthful offender status. He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of weapon, a misdemeanor.

Man Charged in Friday Night Robbery

On Friday, July 29, members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department were conducting a foot patrol on Crannell Street shortly before 10 p.m. when an officer and detective observed two suspicious males. They were checked for warrants and moved along. At approximately the same time, another officer responded to the area of Cannon Street for an unconscious subject who appeared to be intoxicated. An investigation revealed that the unconscious subject was the victim of a robbery and beating. An area search was conducted and one of the suspicious males stopped earlier was identified as being involved in the robbery. Leon Gerald, 21, was taken into custody and charged with Robbery in the second degree.

Police Probe Rock Throwing Incidents on Route 9

There have been at least 10 recent incidents on Route 9 involving cars traveling north on the highway being struck with objects thrown from above between the Columiba Street overpass and Albany Street. Objects thrown include rocks, eggs, and pieces of brick. There have been no injuries in these incidents.

Targetted patrols of the area began on July 17 and on Friday, July 29, City of Poughkeepsie Police took three juvenile suspects into custody. Their cases will be handled by Dutchess County Family Court.

Two Charged in Burglary

On Saturday, July 23, at approximately 12:49 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers responded to a burglary in progress at an address on South Grand Avenue. Upon arrival, two subjects fled the residence on foot and were subsequently arrested after a foot pursuit. They were identified as Eric Smith, 19, and Deonte Latham, 19, both of Poughkeepsie. They were charged with burglary in the second degree.

Two Charged With Attempted Burglary

On July 20, at approximately 12:18 p.m., the City of Poughkeepsie 911 Center received a call from a resident of Orchard Place reporting an attempted burglary. The caller was inside her residence sleeping when a rear window opened and two individuals attempted to climb inside the window. The caller awoke and saw two suspects looking through the open window into her residence. She called 911 and gave a description of the suspects as they fled on foot. A short time later, responding patrol officers arrested two suspects in the immediate area. They were identified as Cyrhon W. Carr, 22, and Nigel L. Elting, 20, both of the City of Poughkeepsie. Both were charged with attempted burglary in the second degree and held pending arraignment.

There has been a recent increase in the number of burglaries in the City of Poughkeepsie and police urge residents to lock their doors and windows and to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

Suspect Gave False Name

The female suspect arrested early this morning for trepass after being observed attempting to enter a vehicle on Loockerman Avenue gave City of Poughkeepsie Police a false name during her arrest. She identified herself as Dominque Griffen but that is not her true name. An investigation as to the true identity of the suspect is continuing.

Man Charged With Making Graffiti

At approximately 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, City of Poughkeepsie Police detectives observed a man spray-painting the side of a building on the 500-Block of Main Street. The subject was arrested on misdemeanor charges of making graffiti and possession of a graffiti instrument. He was identified as Zachary Carey, 23, of the City of Poughkeepsie.

Pair Arrested After Attempted Vehicle Break-in

At approximately 1:30 this morning, a resident of Loockerman Avenue called City of Poughkeepsie Police to report three subjects in his driveway attempting to enter his vehicle. The subjects fled on foot but the caller was able to follow two of them and point them out to responding officers. They were identified as Dajuan Cummings-Kimble, 21, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, and Dominque Griffen, 20, of the City of Poughkeepsie. Both were charged with trespass, a violation, as there was no damage to the vehicle and nothing was taken.

Good Samaritans Detain Robbery Suspect

On Thursday, July 14, at 3:45 p.m. City of Poughkeepsie Police received several calls reporting an armed robbery that just occurred at the City Center Deli, 472 Main St. The callers reported that several civilians were detaining the suspect.

Upon the arrival of Police, officers found the suspect on the groun being detained by three Good Samaritans. The suspect was identified as Joshua McGuire, a 30-year-old Town of Poughkeepsie resident. McGuire had entered the deli where he remained until there were no other customers inside. He then asked the clerk to help him find something. Once the clerk was accessible, the suspect pulled a knife, threatening the clerk and demanding money. When the suspect attempted to open the register, the clerk fled the store and asked people in the parking lot to call the police.

Several civilians did call the police, but when the suspect came out of the deli with a knife in one hand and cash in the other, the Good Samaritans, acting without regard for their safety, took the suspect to the ground and held him there until the arrival of police.

The clerk received several small lacerations during her struggle with the suspect, but refused medical treatment.

The civilians who assisted are: Bart Meyer and Peter Gordon, both of the City of Poughkeepsie, and Daimion Lowe of Gardner, NY.

Joseph McGuire was charged with first-degree robbery and was held pending arraignment.

Handgun Recovered Following Report of Shots Fired

On Tuesday, July 12, at approximately 4:25 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers responded to the area of 73 Catharine St. for a report of shots fired and a male running. A search conducted by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office K-9 located a .40 caliber handgun in the rear of a house on Mansion Street. A man matching the description of the subject seen running was also located and was identified as Avery Rogers, 20, of the City of Poughkeepsie. He was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Burglary Arrest Made

A Hyde Park man was arrested by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department this morning on a felony charge of second degree burglary for his role in an incident on Innis Avenue in June.

James B. Sealey, 29, was arrested following an investigation into a daytime burglary on Innis Avenue that involved two men who illegally entered a single family home on the morning of June 16. Neighbors witnessed Sealey, and another man who has yet to be identified, removing property and placing it into a vehicle. When the pair realized they were being observed, they attempted to flee, and their vehicle got caught on a retaining wall, forcing them to leave the scene on foot.

Sealey was held pending arraignment.

13 Year Old Charged With Robbery

An 11-year-old boy walking with his mother on upper Main Street on Saturday, June 9, at approximately 5:30 p.m. was accosted by two teenage boys, one of whom displayed what appeared to be a handgun. The duo demanded the victim’s bike and took it from him. City of Poughkeepsie Police responded to the scene and detained one suspect matching a description provided by the victim. He was positively identified as one of the robbery participants and he was taken into custody on charges of second degree robbery. The suspect was found to be in possession of a pellet gun magazine; no weapon was recovered. The suspect is 13 years old and his case will be handled in Dutchess County Family Court.

Two Arrested for YMCA Burglary

Two men were arrested for burglary this morning after an investigation revealed that they had smashed a window on the vacant YMCA property at 35 Montgomery St. and stole a number of barbell weights. Charged with burglary in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree were Bryan S. Newmaster, 18, and Rafael E. Sosa, 19. Both men are city residents.

City of Poughkeepsie Police are also investigating the theft of copper piping from a multi-family residence on Hooker Avenue that occurred during the morning of July 4.

Residents are reminded that vacant buildings are often the target of copper thefts. Anyone observing suspicious activity in or around vacant buildings are urged to call city police at (845) 451-4000.

Two Arrested Following Search Warrant on Carroll Street

Location: 76 Carroll St. City of Poughkeepsie.

Details: The Dutchess County Drug Task Force, assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, arrested the above suspects after a three month investigation into drug sales from Apt #3, 76 Carroll St., City of Poughkeepsie. Devarl Dudley, AKA POLO, was arrested on the street in front of his apartment on Carroll Street at about 8:00pm on June 28. Following his arrest, agents from the Task Force executed a no knock search warrant of his residence. Dudley was in possession of 13bags of heroin on his person and subsequently another 234 bags of heroin was seized from his apartment. Additionally, over $2000 in cash was seized from his apartment as well as drug packaging material.

Dudley was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3^rd degree, a Class B Felony. At about 9:30pm, Jade Lee arrived at 76 Carroll St. and was arrested by Task Force Agents and charged with one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, a Class B Felony. Dudley was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie and remanded to Dutchess County Jail with no bail. Lee was also remanded to Dutchess County Jail with $1000 cash bail.

Man Charged With Robbing Delivery Person

On June 23, 2011, at approximately 10:20 p.m., officers responded to 76 Academy St. for a reported robbery of a delivery person. The victim stated that he arrived at 76 Academy St. and called the cell phone given by the customer. The victim was told to come to the rear of the residence where he was physically assaulted by two male subjects who also stole the food items being delivered. The victim was not injured. After a short investigation, investigators located one of the two suspects at a residence on Montgomery Street. Police arrested Melwin Hernandez, 20, of the City of Poughkeepsie and charged him with Robbery in the Second Degree, a C Felony.

Three Day Warrant Sweep Clears 72 Warrants

Through the use of grant funding received by New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services, from June 13 through June 16, officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department along with officers from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, U.S. Marshals and Probation participated in a warrant sweep. Officers were broken up into six warrant teams and one processing / booking team. Locations in and out of the City of Poughkeepsie were checked.

By the conclusion of the detail, 72 warrants were cleared with 67 people arrested. Charges ranged from Family Court orders to felonies. We would like to extend our thanks to New York State and DCJS for the continued funding which is essential to keeping our community safe.

Man Shot Monday Night

On May 30, 2011, at approximately 7:52 p.m., the City of Poughkeepsie 911 Center received multiple calls of shots being fired in the area of Mansion St. and Winnikee Avenue, and a possible man down. Responding officers stopped a vehicle that was leaving the scene and arrested the operator, a thirty-three year old City of Poughkeepsie resident, with a loaded handgun. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D Felony. Officers checked the area but could not locate a victim. A short time later the victim of the shooting, a twenty-three year old City of Poughkeepsie resident, arrived at Saint Francis Hospital Emergency room, transported there by private vehicle. The victim, who was shot in the left upper thigh, was not cooperative with police and refused any police assistance. As a result of this investigation, police seized a quantity of heroin and crack-cocaine. The investigation is continuing. Location: 150 Winnikee Ave , apt. #1 City of Poughkeepsie

Details: The Dutchess County Drug Task Force arrested the above suspect after a two month investigation into drug sales from a first floor apt at 150 Winnikee Ave. The City of Poughkeepsie Emergency Services Unit executed a no knock search warrant at about 9:00am on 5/5/11 and located Lemmon in the first floor apartment. Once inside, members of the Task Force recovered a loaded High Point .380 cal semi auto handgun which was stolen from Charleston, South Carolina. Additionally, an amount of heroin, drug packaging and scales, along with approximately $7000 in cash was seized. Lemmon was transported to City lockup and is awaiting arraignment.

Suspicous Person on Academy Street

On Thursday, April 28, at approximately 4:45 to 5:00 p.m., a 10-year-old girl was walking in the area of 80 Academy Street when a white car pulled up alongside her and the driver told her to get in the vehicle. The girl fled and was unharmed.

The vehicle is described as a mid-sized white car with a gray interior. The suspect is described as a white male, in his 20s or 30s, average build, with brown or black spiked hair. He had a brown birthmark on his right cheek and was wearing a white shirt with a design on the front.

Suspicious Person on Smith Street

On Wednesday, April 27, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a man grabbed a five-year-old boy by the arm and attempted to pull him away from his older sister who was walking home from school with him on Smith Street.

The children were just about to cross Thompson Street when this incident occurred. The suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion and no upper front teeth. He was clean shaven, possibly in his mid-thirties, with a medium build. He was wearing a blue wind breaker type of jacket and a blue and orange baseball cap.

The public is urged to call the police immediately in situations such as the incident above.

Man Charged With Possessing Illegal Gun

On Wednesday, April 27, at approximately 1:08 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police received a report of a man with a gun walking on Manion Street. A short time later, officers observed a man on Mansion Street who fit the description of the man with a gun. The subject was stopped by officers and searched and was found to be in possession of a loaded .38 caliber pistol as well as some pills.

Christopher Watson, 21, of Poughkeepsie, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. He was held pending arraignment.

Two Teens Charged in Robbery

On Wednesday, March 24, 2011 at 9:20 p.m. the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a call of a fight in the area of Cannon and Academy streets. Responding Officers eventually located two subjects who had been attacked by four black males. The victims stated that when they exited a store at Cannon and Academy streets one of them was holding a cigarette, the four black males approached them and one stated “that cigarette looks good; give it to me” when the victim refused both victims were attacked by the four black males who punched and kicked them to the ground. During the attack one of the black males took the cigarette from the victim. The four black males were found on Main Street and after a brief foot pursuit two out of the four were apprehended. The two are both 17 years of age and were charged with Robbery in the second degree. The other two suspects are described as being black males 17-22 years of age wearing dark clothing and white baseball caps. Teen Arrested for Attempted Robbery

On Sunday, March 20, 2011, at approximately 9:06 p.m., the City of Poughkeepsie 911 Center received a call from a female who told police that two individuals attempted to rob her at the intersection of May St. and Fox Terrace. The caller told police she went to the intersection to purchase a vehicle which she had arranged to test drive and then buy. After a brief conversation, one of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded the cash she had brought to purchase the vehicle. The victim refused to give the suspects the money, and was struck in the head with the gun but was not injured. The suspects then fled in a vehicle, and the victim pursued the vehicle and contacted the police, giving them her location as she continued to follow the suspects’ vehicle. The victim followed the suspects to the area of 57 Catherine St., where both suspects got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. One suspect was arrested at Mansion St. and North Hamilton St., but the second suspect was not apprehended and fled the scene. The second suspect was described as a light-skinned black male, about 5’1” tall, wearing gold rimmed glasses. Police charged Cory Reed, 17 years of age, of the City of Poughkeepsie, with Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a class C felony, and Resisting Arrest, a class A misdemeanor. Two Charged With Gun Possession

On March 18, 2011, at approximately 2:15 p.m., the City of Poughkeepsie 911 Center received an anonymous call which advised police that there was going to be a shooting in the area of May St. and Fox Terrace. The caller gave a description of a vehicle that allegedly contained a handgun. Responding Officers Janay Gasparini and John Raffaelle located a vehicle parked on May Street matching the description given by the caller. As the officers approached the vehicle, two of the occupants fled on foot. After foot pursuits, both subjects were taken into custody with the assistance of other responding officers. Officers located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle as the caller had indicated. James C. Smith, 32 years of age, and Jamal Foote, 23 years of age, both of the City of Poughkeepsie, were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C Felony. Both were arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail with no bail. Suspicious Male on Pershing Ave.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is investigating a report of a suspicious male in the area of 92 Pershing Ave.

On March 8 at approximately 4:30 p.m. a black male was observed standing in the bushes across from 91 Pershing Ave. The male appeared to be masturbating as a 13-year-old female was walking by. The suspect ran towards Main Street when he realized he had been seen. This incident was not immediately reported to police.

At approximately 7 p.m. the same male reportedly grabbed a 9-year-old girl by her waist in the same area. The girl was able to break away and run home. The suspect reportedly left the area in a green van.

The suspicious male is described as being 5'6" with a medium brown complexion, possibly in his 20s, mustache, black eyes glasses. The van is described as being green with square windows with white trim and white trim on both bumpers.

Teens Charged With Burglary

On March 1, 2011, members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Patrol Division investigated the burglary of an un-occupied residence at 343 Church St. The residents reported to the police numerous items of stolen property, including clothing articles. On March 3, 2011, one of the victims of the burglary, a student at Poughkeepsie High School, noticed a fellow student wearing an item of clothing which was allegedly stolen during the burglary. City of Poughkeepsie Police Detectives Robert Perrotta and Lawrence Bartolotti interviewed this student, who confessed to the burglary and implicated at least two other individuals in the crime. As a result of this interview and further interviews conducted by Perrotta, Bartolotti and Detective Jeffrey Wright, two (2) City of Poughkeepsie residents, one sixteen (16) years of age and the other seventeen (17) years of age, were arrested and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, a class C Felony, and were held in the city lockup awaiting arraignment.

Also on March 3, 3011, a third individual being sought in connection with the burglary, a fifteen (15) year old City of Poughkeepsie resident, was arrested by City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit (NRU) members Officer Christopher Libolt and Officer Bradley Sukeena, who were assisted by Officer Robert Haberski of the Patrol Division. This fifteen (15) year old was discovered in possession of a handgun and a quantity of heroin after an investigation unrelated to the burglary. City Police charged the fifteen (15) year old with Burglary in the Second Degree in connection with the burglary at 343 Church St., and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony. He was transported to a secure juvenile detention facility in Albany, NY, and is due back in Dutchess County Family Court on Friday, March 4, 2011.

Main Street Closed from Arterial to River

Man Arrested on Assault Charges

On February 10, 2011, at approximately 9:37 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police arrested Frederick S. Smith, a 19-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident, on numerous charges. Smith was arrested in the area of Winnikee Avenue and Lent Street after he attempted to flee on foot and led officers on a brief foot pursuit. Smith was wanted on a Dutchess County Court Bench Warrant issued by Hon. Stephen L. Greller stemming from a pending case in Dutchess County Court. During the arrest, a police officer suffered a broken finger and was treated and released at Saint Francis Hospital. Police also charged Smith with Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, stemming from an incident which occurred on February 3, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m., where he allegedly assaulted a City of Poughkeepsie resident in the area of 595 Main St. As a result of the arrest, detectives charged Smith with two new additional charges of Resisting Arrest and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree for possessing brass knuckles, both Class A Misdemeanors. Man Arrested for Gun Possession

On Tuesday, Feb. 8, at approximately 10:27 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers were dispatched to an apartment on Cannon Street for a report of shots fire. A subsequent investigation led to the recovery of a semi-automatic handgun and the arrest of Jalil Smith, 22, of Poughkeepsie, on a felony charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. No one was injured in the incident.

Rash of Snow-blower Thefts Reported

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating a rash of snow-blower thefts that have been reported between Jan. 27 and Feb. 5 in the areas of Balding Avenue, Washington Street, Taylor Avenue, Orchard Place, Harrison Street and Lilling Road. Most of the snow-blowers were stolen overnight from backyards and sheds.

City police are advising residents to secure their snow-blowers and record the serial numbers. Report any suspicious activity or persons in your neighborhood by calling (845) 451-4000.

One snow blower was recovered on Balding Avenue and has yet to be claimed. If you have had a snow-blower stolen but have not reported it to police, please do so.

On Friday, January 28, 2011 at approximately 8:00 am, while in the area of Mansion and Garden Streets, an 8 year old male was walking to school when a black male walked towards him and attempted to grab his arm. The child described the black male as about thirty (30) years old, six feet tall, thin build, medium skin tone, with no facial hair wearing a black hat and black jacket. The child moved away from the suspect and then ran to Morse School and notified school personnel. Police could not locate the suspect, and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Division at 845-451-4000. Residents should notify the Police Department if they observe any suspicious activity similar to this incident.

After a multi month investigation into narcotics sales in the area of Morse Magnet School on Mansion ST, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit arrested Larry Philpot DOB 12-2-1969, 130 Mansion ST., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Philpot was arrested on a Dutchess County Court arrest warrant.

Based on complaints made by community members of drug dealing in the neighborhood, on January 21, 2011, members of the Neighborhood Recovery Unit and Community Policing executed a narcotics search warrant at 20 Parkwood Blvd. NRU members arrested 2 subjects during the investigation.

Narcotics Arrests Made at Hudson Gardens

Based on complaints made by community members, on Jan. 15, 2011, members of the Neighborhood Recovery Unit engaged in an operation to combat open air drug dealing in and around the Hudson Gardens Housing Complex. NRU members arrested two subjects engaged in such behavior.

On Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 members of the Neighborhood Recovery Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at 34 Conklin St. 1^st floor. The target of the investigation was taken into custody away from the location. NRU members debriefed the target and returned to the location and executed the warrant.

Man Arrested for Robberies

Carlton R. Woods Sr., 40, of Wappingers Falls, was arrested in the area of Main and White streets at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, on three charges of armed robbery. A weapon was recovered during the arrest.

Woods was arrested on warrants for robberies that were committed on Nov. 22, Dec. 27 and early in the morning of Jan. 5, 2011.

Four Found With Stolen Property

At approximately 6:21 on the morning of Dec. 23, City of Poughkeepsie Police received a report of suspicious persons in the Fox Hill area. Responding officers located and detained the subjects and a subsequent investigation revealed that they were in possession of property stolen out of vehicles in Pleasant Valley. They were taken into custody.

There were no vehicle break-ins reported in the area of Fox Hill. Anyone who may have had items stolen from their vehicles in the city should report it to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

City police remind residents not to leave any valuables unsecured in their vehicles and to report suspicious persons or activities to the police immediately.

Crime Prevention Tips: Burglaries

Being the victim of a burglary is a traumatic experience. You have lost valuable property and the sanctity of your home has been violated. However, there are some steps you can take to protect yourself from this crime.

Most burglaries occur during the day when houses are less likely to be occupied. While some burglaries do occur when occupants are home, most burglars look for signs of vacancy when choosing a target. If you are going to be away from your home for an extended period of time for a vacation or business trip, it is important to have your mail and newspaper delivery stopped for the duration of your absence as a burglar will notice these items piling up. Most newspapers offer a program that will suspend your delivery and donate the issues you missed to a local school. You can also call the police department and request extra checks of your property while you are away.

Homes that appear to be occupied are far less likely to be burglarized. A car in the driveway or audible noise from within may be enough to deter a burglar from attempting to access your house. Houses with dogs are also less likely to be burglarized, as are those with alarm systems. Most insurance companies offer discounts on homeowner’s and renter’s insurance to clients with security systems and/or dogs on the premises.

Studies indicate that alarm systems and other security devices reduce burglaries. These include window locks, dead bolts, security lighting, interior light timers and devices that prevent windows from opening more than a few inches.

The most important step you can take to prevent your home from being burglarized is to secure it. Lock your windows and doors (including sliding glass doors and garage doors) whether you are home or not. Leave your curtains or blinds closed. Do not advertise recent expensive purchases – such as a new television – by leaving the item’s packaging outside of your garbage cans. Tear up cardboard boxes from such purchases and mix them into your trash. This is particularly important to remember during the holiday season.

Burglars also target homes that are difficult to see from the street or neighboring homes as this offers them more privacy. Do not provide burglars places to hide on your property. Avoid placing too much shrubbery near your doors and windows (although thorny bushes may deter a burglar). Poor lighting may also attract a burglar. Side or back doors and windows are particularly attractive entry points for burglars – do not neglect to keep these areas well-lit. Motion-activated lighting is a cost-effective way to keep the outside of your home lit.

In the City of Poughkeepsie, the majority of burglaries occur in multiple dwellings, that is apartment buildings or duplexes. Keep common doorways locked and invest in a deadbolt lock for your apartment door. Always lock windows that are accessible via porch roofs or fire escapes.

Even vacant homes can be targeted by burglars looking for copper piping and other scrap metals they can sell. Be aware of vacant properties in your neighborhood and call the police if you observe anything suspicious.

Get to know your neighbors and look out for each other. Call the police immediately if you note any suspicious persons or activity.

If your home is burglarized, report it to the police immediately. Do not touch anything to avoid contaminating potential evidence – leave your home exactly as you found it until officers arrive.

Police Use New Tool to Find Missing Persons

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is using a new tool to help find missing and endangered persons – A Child is Missing Alert Program, a nationwide non-profit organization that helps law enforcement agencies locate missing children, missing elderly (often suffering from Alzheimer’s), college students on campus, and missing persons who are mentally or physically challenged. City police used this service for the first time this week.

A free service to law enforcement, A Child Is Missing is a nationwide Alert Program with technicians on call 24/7, 365 who utilize sophisticated mapping systems and satellite imagery input into a system with the capacity to place 1,000 alert phone calls in 60 seconds to the area where a missing person was last seen or is believed to be. The phone calls are brief recordings alerting residents to the situation so they can share information with the police.

On Tuesday, Dec. 7, City of Poughkeepsie police began a search for an 80-year-old woman who had gone missing from her home on Livingston Street. Upon taking the report, city police dispatchers called the toll free number for the A Child Is Missing Alert Program, provided key information to the technician, and, shortly after, the Livingston Street area was ringing with calls requesting those in the area to check their yards and complexes for the missing woman. Three residents called police with information concerning the missing woman, who was located a short time later at a local store.

A running vehicle was stolen from a driveway in the city this morning and was later crashed in another jurisdiction.

Last week, a running vehicle was stolen from a driveway in the city and later crashed in to a marked patrol car.

In addition to luring theives, leaving a vehicle running unattended is a violation of New York State Law.

Man Charged With Heroin Possession

On Dec. 2 at approximately 5:05 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police attempted a routine traffic stop of a vehicle that had failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Winnikee Avenue and Cottage Street. The vehicle drove slowly until accelerating through a business parking lot, where the driver threw a brown box containing over 600 decks of heroin from the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as Seaton M. McKenzie Jr., 34, of Morgan Avenue. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and other traffic offenses in addtion to the heroin possession.

Car Stolen From Driveway

On Friday, Nov. 26, at 5:52 a.m. City of Poughkeepsie Police dispatchers received a call from a woman who reported that her car, which had been left running in her driveway, was stolen by unknown man.

A police officer dispatched to the call observed the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. A chase ensued and the responding officer was involved in an accident with the stolen vehicle in the area of 27 Vernon Terr. As the officer’s car turned onto Vernon Terrace, the stolen vehicle came straight at him and struck him. The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

The operator of the stolen vehicle was identified as Roger Reeves, 53, homeless. He was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, assault in the second degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment.

Man Charged With Robbery

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Nov. 22, a man was robbed at gunpoint by two males and a female in the area of Bement Avenue and Harrison Street. One of the three suspects was known to the victim and turned himself in to City of Poughkeepsie Police. Carlton Woods, 40, homeless, was charged with first degree robbery. The other suspects have yet to be identified. They are described as a black female wearing dark clothing and a black male, 5'11" tall with a thin build also wearing dark clothing.

Man Had Burglary Tools

An alert citizen living on Fox Terrace reported to police at 9:00 a.m. this morning that someone with a crowbar was on the property of a vacant house. Officers located the subject, Raymond Wright, 55, in possession of a crowbar and other burglar’s tools. He was also in possession of two large metal garden ornaments, which may have been stolen. Wright was charged with possession of burglar’s tools, a misdemeanor. Police were unable to determine the owner of the vacant house but it did not appear to have been entered.

Three Handguns Recovered by Police

In two separate incidents, three handguns were recovered by City of Poughkeepsie Police officers in a 24-hours period.

On Nov. 18 at 3:26 a.m., officers on foot patrol in the area of 411 Main Street heard several gun shots. An investigation indicated that numerous subjects had fled the area. While checking the various flight paths of these subjects, the officers located a .38 caliber handgun near a parking lot on North Hamilton Street. At this time, investigation is continuing as to the source of the weapon and who may have discarded it.

On Nov. 18 at 8:58 p.m., a joint warrant detail comprised of Detectives, patrol officers and members of the Neighborhood Recovery Unit went to 6 Mansion St. in search of subjects wanted on several warrants. While entering the common hallway of the building, officers on the perimeter indicated that several subjects were attempting to flee out of upper floor windows.

After an investigation, two subjects were taken into custody and two handguns (.44 caliber and .32 caliber revolvers) were recovered from a roof where they had been discarded. The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department assisted in recovering the weapons, both of which were reported stolen. One was stolen from Chenango County and the other from Kingston.

Arrested were Maurice Eady, 18, and Frederick Smith, 20, each on two counts of criminal possession of stolen property, a felony. Eady was also charged with two counts of fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. Smith was also charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police Investigating Home Invasion

A home invasion robbery occurred at 9 Hooker Ave. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at approximately 6:40 p.m. The suspects are described as a white male wearing a black jacket and white hooded sweatshirt and a black male, possibly with dreadlocks and wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The suspects stole a safe and fled in a newer Ford Expedition or similar SUV, which was black or dark navy with no front plate. The rear plate was the newer style blue and gold plate. A third suspect, possibly a white male, was operating the vehicle, which fled west on Hooker Avenue. Prior to the robbery, the vehicle was parked on the north side of Hooker Avenue, east of 9 Hooker Ave.

Barbershop Robbed

At approximately 4:43 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, an armed robbery was reported at VR&R Barbershop at 133 Washington St.

One suspect is described as being a Hispanic or light-skinned black male, 5’8” – 5’9”, wearing a gray sweatshirt, jeans and a mask. The second suspect, described as a taller black male wearing a gray sweat suit, served as a lookout. Following the robbery, one suspect fled north on Washington Street and other fled south on Washington Street.

Man Arrested for Illegal Gun

On Nov. 5, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Christian Blades was stopped by City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers in the area of Main Street and South Clinton Street. He was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun with a defaced serial number. Blades, 17, of State Street, was charged with second and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies, and was held pending arraignment.

City of Poughkeepsie Police are attempting to identify a man who was observed looking into to parked vehicles in the area of Adriance and Hooker avenues.

On Oct. 28, at approximately 10:15 p.m., an alert citizen called police headquarters reporting the suspicious male who was described as being black, 6' tall, wearing thick eye glasses, blue jeans and a long winter type coat with a panel on the front. The same subject was observed a few days earlier on Whitehouse Avenue at around 1:30 a.m.

15 year old male arrested for breaking into a vehicle

On October 24, 2010 at approximately 11:54 AM the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to the area of 53 South Hamilton St. after a witness reported seeing a 15 year old black male break a window out of a parked vehicle. The suspect then took several items from inside of the vehicle and fled on a bicycle. Responding Patrol Officers located the suspect and he was positively identified and arrested. All of the victims property was recovered.

The suspect is a 15 year old City of Poughkeepsie resident. He was released to a parent to appear at later time in Dutchess County Family Court.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department strongly urges you not to leave items included but not limited to GPS devices, MP3 players and other valuables in your vehicle as there has been a recent increase in vehicles being broken into on the western side of the City.

On Thursday, Oct. 7 at 12:57 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers responded to a report of an Hispanic male who had just broken in to a vehicle in an Academy Street parking lot. The alert citizen who called the police provided a very good description of the suspect and someone matching that description was stopped and detained by officers on Church Street after exiting the Academy Street lot.

The suspect had fresh blood on his hand. A check of the parking lot revealed a vehicle matching that as described by the caller that had been forcibly entered. A blood sample was obtained from within the vehicle. The vehicle’s owner positively identified property on the person of the suspect as property taken from the vehicle. Arrested on charges of criminal mischief, larceny and criminal possession of stolen property was Pedro Lopez, 31, homeless.

Attempted Home Invasion on Delafield St.

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating an attempted home invasion that occurred on Delafield Street shortly after midnight on Wednesday. An unknown male subject who identified himself as "Tate" knocked on the rear door of an apartment. When the residents looked outside they observed four males all wearing masks and gloves, one of them armed with rifle. The suspects fled on foot toward Hoffman Street after an exterior motion light was activated. This is the second time in the past two weeks that this type of incident has occurred at this address. The first incident was not reported to police.

One suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male, 5'6" with a slightly heavy build and glasses. A second suspect was described as 5'8" with a thinner build and a third suspect was described as being 5'8" to 5'10".

Murder Suspect Arrested

On June 24, 2010 Kareem Porter was fatally stabbed in the area of 435 Main Street in the City of Poughkeepsie. On July 12, 2010 VAUGHN STOKES a 29 year old City of Poughkeepsie resident was arrested by members of the New York State Police Violent Felony Warrant Squad and Detectives from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department at a motel on Gun Hill Rd in the Bronx for his part in Porters’s murder. STOKES was assaulting Porter at the time he was fatally stabbed. STOKES was charged with Murder in the 2^nd degree. Additionally STOKES was found to be in Possession of 8 handguns and 1 fully automatic weapon for which he will also face charges. STOKES was arraigned in City Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.

At this time the City of Poughkeepsie Police are looking for DONAVAN GILLIARD, a 30 year old City of Poughkeepsie resident who is wanted for stabbing Porter. GILLIARD is 5’10 tall, 167 lbs, black hair, bro eyes. GILLAIRD may be with his wife TENEQUA GILLIARD a 28 year old City of Poughkeepsie resident who is wanted on an Arrest Warrant for a City Ordinance violation. Scam Donations Sought for King Street Park

A resident of Musselman Drive in the Town of Poughkeepsie has advised the city that someone was collecting donations for King Street Park. No one is collecting funds for the park, so any such solicitations should be considered a scam and reported to the police.

Beacon Man Had Illegal Guns

On May 26 at approximately 9:18 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers were checking the vacant YMCA property at 35 Montgomery St. when they observed a subject in the parking lot. The officers interviewed the subject who admitted to possessing two illegal handguns, both of which were loaded.

Daquon A. Spence, 19, of Beacon, was taken in to custody without incident. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property, felonies.

Handgun Found on Lent Street

At 12:47 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers responded to the area of Lent Street for a report of shots fired. A handgun was found on the ground at the scene and a 32-year-old man was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. There were no injuries.

Teens Charged in Robbery

Two juveniles were arrested this morning after forcibly stealing a cell phone from a man while in the area of 2 Charles Street. A description of the suspects was broadcast on police radio and two young teenagers were stopped by officers and positively identified by the victim. They are 13 and 14 years old and may be eligible for youthful offender status.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to the area of 216 North Hamilton St. after an observant citizen reported a man wearing a ski mask in the area to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office at 150 North Hamilton St. While Officers were responding to the area to investigate a hold up alarm activation was received from the Hamilton Book and Video store located at 216 North Hamilton St. Responding Officer’s learned that an armed robbery had just occurred and the suspect was arrested a short distance away at 108 Parker Ave. The weapon used was recovered as well.

The suspect is Donald Hodges of the City of Poughkeepsie. Hodges was charged with Robbery 2^nd for this robbery and he was also charged with Robbery 1^st for a second armed robbery of the same book store on March 26, 2010.

Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Arrest

On Sunday, April 25, shortly after midnight, City of Poughkeepsie Police officers conducted a traffic stop at the end of Laurel Street. The operator of the vehicle abandoned the car, which struck a building, and fled the area on foot. He was located a short time later and was placed under arrest on numerous vehicle and traffic charges. A loaded handgun was recovered during the investigation and the defendant, Kenneth A. Paddyfote III, 25, of Poughkeepsie, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony, and unlawful fleeing of a police officer, a misdemeanor. He was also issued 15 traffic tickets. He was held pending arraignment.

Man Arrested for Gun, Drug Possession

On Saturday, April 24, at approximately 12:00 noon, a City of Poughkeepsie Police officer observed a drug transaction in the area of 120 Hudson Avenue. One of the subjects involved left the area in a vehicle and the officer conducted a traffic stop, finding a quantity of what appeared to be crack cocaine. The driver fled the area on foot and was taken in to custody after a foot pursuit. Also found in the vehicle was a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen from the state of Florida. The defendant, Omari D. Hasan, 25, of Brooklyn, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, felonies. He was also charged with criminal impersonation, resisting arrest and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, misdemeanors, as well as a marijuana violation. Hasan was also found to be wanted on a felony warrant from New York City. He was held pending arraignment.

Three Charged With Robbery

On April 20 at approximately 12:30 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police officers responded to the area of 20 High Street for a report of a robbery at gunpoint with the suspects still in the area. Responding officers determined that the suspects had fled into an apartment at 20 High Street. After a short time, officers were able to get into the apartment and found Ron Bond, 19, Quintez Phelps, 19, and Rashan Mitchell, 22, hiding inside. All three were identified by the victims as being involved in the robbery and all were charged with two counts each of first-degree robbery. All three are city residents. They were arraigned and remanded to Dutchess County Jail.

Census Workers to Visit Local Households

In an effort to accurately count the population, census questionnaires were delivered either by hand or mail to residents in late February and March 2010. Beginning the week of April 26 through late August 2010, Census Bureau temporary field staff will work in neighborhoods across the United States to collect infomration from those who have not returned their census questionnaire and verify addresses. Each temporary Census employee will have an official identification card with the employee's signature and an expiration date. Man Charged With Gun Possession

On April 14, 2010 at approximately 9:47 p.m. members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department were attempting to locate a black male subject wearing a gray sweatshirt in the area of Cottage/North Hamilton/Catherine St area. The suspect displayed a handgun and was attempting to gain access to a residence. Officers located a subject wearing a gray sweatshirt in the area of North Hamilton and Mansion St. When the Officer’s approached the subject he fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit the subject was taken into custody and a quantity of illegal drugs was recovered as well as a loaded stolen .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

The suspect was identified as Antwann Mayo, 30, a city resident. He was charged with criminial possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property, felonies, and resisting arrest and criminal possession of marijuana, misdemeanors.

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating a strong arm robbery that took place on Friday, April 2 at 3:40 p.m. in the area of 343 Main Street. The suspect stole a bag containing cash and the victim's cell phone. He is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5'7" tall with a medium build, last seen wearing an indigo and white button-down shirt, blue jeans and black and white sneakers.

Robbery suspect needs to be identified

On March 26, 2010 at approximately 10:51 PM the City of Poughkeepsie Police responded to the Hamilton Book and Video located at 216 North Hamilton St. Poughkeepsie, NY for reported robbery. Man Charged With Robbery

A 20-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, March 30, for robbing another man at gunpoint in the area of 31 South White Street at approximatley 10:15 p.m. Junious Green, of West Salem, NY, was charged with first-degree robbery, a class B felony. A loaded handgun was recovered during the investigation. A City of Poughkeepsie Police Officer on routine patrol came upon the scene of the crime just as Green and another male were fleeing. The investigation is continuing.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police have located the 5 month old child safe and the childs mother Jennifer Depaolo is in custody. 3/26/2010 at 7:00PM

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Dutchess County CPS and the Dutchess County Child Advocacy Center are working collaboratively to locate Anthony Reynolds Jr. a 5 month old child. The child is believed to be in the custody of his mother Jennifer C. Depaolo. Dutchess County CPS has been awarded temporary custody of the child because of Depaolo’s suspected child neglect and illegal drug abuse. The child is believed to be in grave danger.

Man Arrested for Vehicle Break-ins

On March 25, 2010 at approximately 9:46 p.m. Officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to the area of 11 Williams Street for a report of area residents who had detained a subject they found breaking in to cars. Responding Officers found Steven G. Williams, 20-year-old city resident, behind held by the residents. Williams was taken into custody and charged with felony Criminal Mischief and Petit Larceny for breaking in to a vehicle on Williams Street.

Williams’ last known address is 22 Montgomery Street, scene of numerous vehicle break-ins over the past several days. Williams had last been arrested by City of Poughkeepsie Police on Jan. 9, 2010 for Petit Larceny and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He was stopped on that date for looking into vehicles and found to be riding a bike that he had just stolen. Williams was sent to the Dutchess County Jail on that Date; he was released to Probation on Feb. 22, 2010.

After his arrest last night, Williams was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment of injuries he claims he suffered while being detained by the residents. He was treated and released from the hospital. Williams is being held pending his arraignment in City Court.

Attempted Burglary on Clark Street

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating the attempted burglary of an occupied residence on Clark Street that occurred at approximately 5:14 a.m. The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, with a thin build, 5’10” to 6’ tall, and unshaven. He did not gain entry to the house and was last seen heading west on foot on Clark Street.

Numerous Vehicle Break-ins in Lower South

At least nine vehicles were broken into overnight in the lower south area of the City of Poughkeepsie. Five cars were broken into on Morgan Court in the Tubman Terrace housing complex; two were broken into on Montgomery Street at Eastman Towers and two on Gerald Drive. In most cases, windows were smashed out and attempts were made to remove in-dash stereos.

Man Arrested for Vehicle Break-in

On March 23, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a citizen reported to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department that he had just witnessed a man break into a parked car on South Avenue. Responding officers observed a subject matching the description provided by the witness. Following an investigation, the subject was arrested and the stolen property was recovered. Ramon Martinez, 35, of the City of Poughkeepsie, was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief and petit larceny, misdemeanors. He was held pending arraignment.

Man Arrested on Parole Warrant

On March 22, 2010, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Detectives from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, members of the New York State Police and the Federal Marshals Service arrested Sharieff Davis, a 19-year-old city resident, on a Parole warrant. Davis was arrested at 154 Cannon Street. During his arrest, he was found to be in possession of heroin. Davis will be charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, a class C felony. Davis was brought to the Dutchess County Jail and held on the Parole warrant. A 40 caliber handgun was also found at 145 Cannon Street.

Man Charged With Possessing Gun

On March 20, 2010, at approximately 12:13 a.m., Officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Main Street. During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle, Dukieem Wilson, 30, of the City of Poughkeepsie, was found to be in possession of a loaded 45 caliber handgun. Wilson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, a class C felony. He was arraigned and sent to Dutchess County Jail.

Police Seeking Missing Man

Anthony Floyd is a black male, 5'9" tall, weighing 140 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black jacket.

Drug Task Force Executes Search Warrant at 452 Main St.

Location: Reggae Boy Restaurant, 452 Main St, City of Po’k.

Suspect #1: Rodney J. Anderson, 35yoa, dob 4/12/74, res. at 62 Delafield St apt 1.

Suspect #2: Alexander R. Carr, 48yoa, dob 5/21/61, residing at 10 Cedarpine Ln., Po’k

Details: On the above date at about 5:41PM members of the Dutchess County Drug Task Force, assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie SWAT team, executed a search warrant at Reggae Boy restaurant located at 452 Main St, in the City of Poughkeepsie. This search warrant was the result of a three month investigation into crack cocaine sales directly from the restaurant. During the search warrant, about five people were detained in the rear of the restaurant after it was determined all were gambling. The store was closed for the evening and an amount of marihuana and cocaine, as well as approximately $5,000.00 dollars in cash was seized. The above two subjects were each charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3^rd and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3^rd. Both charges are Class B Felonies. Rodney Anderson and Alex Carr were both placed in City lock up and arraigned today. Carr was remanded on $25,000 cash and Carr was remanded to DCJ with no bail. Two of the subjects gambling were arrested for unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation and a bench warrant out of City of Poughkeepsie court.

The City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit engaged in a multi month investigation into marihuana sales from 68 Lent St, 2^nd floor Poughkeepsie.

During the investigation an amount of marihuana and US currency was recovered.

As a result of the investigation, Philip N. Gordon, DOB 12-12-1960 of the stated address was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Marihuana 4^th degree a class A-misdemeanor.

Search Warrant Executed on 68 Catherine St

The City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit engaged in a multi-month investigation into narcotic sales at 68 Catherine St, 3^rd floor Poughkeepsie.

During the investigation an amount of crack cocaine and illegally possessed prescription pills were recovered.

As a result of the investigation, Shabari T. Seay, DOB 9-16-1977 of the stated address was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3^rd a class B-Felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4^th a class C-Felony.

Gun Arrests

City of Poughkeepsie Police officers have recovered two handguns in separate incidents in recent days.

On February 9th at approx. 11pm an alert citizen notified police of a subject displaying a handgun on Main St. Officers responding to the area spotted a vehicle beleived used by the suspect. The vehicle was stopped and the operator, Shanteek Gaines, Age 29, of the City was found to be operating the vehicle w/out a license. Subsequent to his arrest, a semi automatic handgun was recovered. His charges include Crim Poss of a Weapon, a D/felony and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation MV, U/mis.

On Februay 11th at approx. 528pm, officers on routine patrol noted a vehicle with a loud radio and the operator was on a cellphone. He was stopped on Winnikee Ave and also found to be operating the vehicle w/out a license. A subsequent search by officers recovered a semi automatic handgun in the vehicle. The subject was taken into custoday after a brief scuffle. Citizens who have knowledge of subjects with illegal weapons are encouraged to contact the police and provide as much information as possible. In these two cases one such tip led to the recovery of that weapon and the arrest of the suspect who possessed it.

Snow Event Update

The City has not seen the full impact of the present snow storm. It is expected that the snow will continue thru midnight sometimes heavy at times. However, at this point, there is no expected need to call a snow emergency. If conditions decline, or the storm moves further north towards us, this could change.

Residents are asked to avoid unnecessary travel later today and to avoid parking on city streets, if not necessary, to assist with snow removal.

Residents are also reminded not to throw or push snow into the streets as this just hampers the removal process and is in violation of city ordinance.

Tomorrow, alternate side parking will be strictly enforced first thing in the morning to assist with the cleanup effort.

Drug Task Force Investigation Concludes With Arrest

A year-long investigation by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force led to the arrest of a city man yesterday as well as the recovery of illegal handguns and drugs.

Rawl Deslandes, 37, was arrested at 10:00 a.m. on Feb. 4 outside of his residence at 11 Jewett Avenue. Following the arrest, a search warrant was executed at Rawl’s business, Upstate Music Alliance and Rocco Don Records, located at 320 Main St.

Recovered during the search were two handguns, one ounce of cocaine and approximately $2,000 cash. During the course of the investigation, nine ounces of cocaine were recovered.

Deslandes was charged with first-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, an A-1 felony; third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a B felony; and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a D felony.

Dry Cleaners Robbed

Town & Country Cleaners, 736 Main Street, was robbed on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at approximately 4:20 p.m. The suspect entered the store and passed a note that directed an employee to empty the register, threatening the use of a gun. The suspect then fled south on South Grand Avenue and then westbound toward Hoffman Avenue.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’10” with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing a brown hooded sweat shirt, light blue jeans and white sneakers.

Search Warrant Executed on Garden ST

The City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit engaged in a multi month investigation into heroin sales at 82 Garden St, Poughkeepsie. Based on the investigation

members of the Emergency Services Unit executed a Narcotics search warrant at the location on January 29, 2010. A large amount of heroin packaged for distribution, crack cocaine and a loaded handgun were recovered.

Drug Arrest Made on Garfield Place

Due to complaints of drug activity in the area of Garfield Place, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit conducted an investigation in the area, resulting a felony drug arrest on Jan. 7, 2010 at approximately 9:30 p.m. Arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3, a Class-B felony, was Allison Cribbin, 20, of Suncrest Court, Poughkeepsie.

As a result of the investigation and arrest, a second subject was arrested for misdemeanor drug possession. A subsequent sting operation resulted seven separate people charged with City Ordinance Violation of Loitering for the Purpose of Purchasing Drugs. Those subjects were issued city ordinance tickets returnable to City Court.

Robbery suspect arrested

On January 5, 2010 at 1249pm The City of Poughkeepsie Police Deartment responded to the Jelly Belly Deli located at 83 Washington St. for a panic alarm activation. Responding Officers discovered that an armed robbery had occurred there and the store employees were chasing the suspect. A short time later, after following footprints in the snow Officers found the suspect, 30 year old City resident and Parolee Nigel Brown, hiding in a vacant building. Brown was charged with Robbery 2nd degree a class C felony. Brown is being held pending arraignment. Man Charged With Firing Handgun

On Thursday, Dec. 31, at approximately 3:25 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police received a report of two shots fired in the area of 364 Main St. Responding officers located the suspect in an apartment at that address and he was positively identified by two witnesses to the incident. Donovan Crawford, 29, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, was taken into custody without incident and was charged second and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies, and second degree reckless endangerment and obstruction of governmental administration, misdemeanors. A subsequent search by responding officers resulted in the recovery of a 32 caliber handgun believed to be discarded by the suspect.

Two Charged With Possessing Stolen Handgun

On Tuesday, Dec. 29, City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers from the Neighborhood Recovery Unit conducted a surveillance of a residence on Hooker Avenue in search of a subject wanted on a Dutchess County Court arrest warrant. Officers observed a subject believed to be the target enter an SUV and leave the area. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over on Carroll Street, but it fled as officer approached. A brief pursuit ensued and the vehicle was stopped on Holmes and Academy streets.

The target, Herman Hinton, 30, was the passenger and was taken into custody. The driver, Donald Mastroti, 35, was also taken into custody. Hinton was found to possess nearly one ounce of crack/powder cocaine, 26 decks of heroin, a scale and a small amount of U.S. currency. A stolen and loaded 9mm handgun was also located in the vehicle.

Hinton was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count each of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies. Mastroti was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. They were held pending arraignment.

Police Probe Robbery on Academy St.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, a woman who was walking in the area of 137 Academy Street was pushed to the ground by two young black males who then took the victim's fanny pack and fled on east on Franklin Street and then to Holmes Street.

Tree Damaged in Spratt Park

A large standing tree in the rear of Spratt Park was damaged recently when someone hacked away a section of the trunk with an axe, leaving the tree in danger of falling over. The city Department of Public Works has since cut the tree down. Teen Arrested for Robbery

On Sunday, Nov. 22, at approximately 4:35 p.m. two teens attempted to rob a man, stopping him on Mansion Street and demanding money. A City of Poughkeepsie Police vehicle was in the area on routine patrol and the two suspects fled with one of them being apprehended after a brief struggle with officers. He was subsequently identified by the victim. The suspect, 16, was arrested and charged with Attempted Robbery 2, a felony, and obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor. As he may be eligible for youthful offender status, his name is not being released at this time.

At approximately 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, a man stole a purse from a parked car in the area of 238 Hooker Avenue. The suspect was described as a black male in his late 30s, 5'10", medium build, wearing all dark clothes and a black knit hat.

Man Charged With Gun Possession

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers Garth Mason and Owen O'Connell conducted a vehicle and traffic stop in the area of Mansion and North Clinton streets. The driver, Joshua Graves, 24, of Mansion Street, fled from his vehicle leading officers on a foot pursuit. Graves ran to the back of 72 North Hamilton St. While running down the driveway, both officers observed Graves throw an item into a garbage can. Graves violently fought with officers in the rear of 72 North Hamilton St. but was eventually placed into custody. Following this, officers returned to the garbage can and found a revolver, loaded with two rounds, in the can. Graves was charged with numerous vehicle and traffic charges, resisting arrest, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a weapon.

Teen Arrested for Robbery

On November 12, 2009 at 12:35 Officers from this department responded for a report of a 63-year-old female who had been robbed at the intersection of Balding Ave and Marshall St. Victim reported she had been struck in the back of the head and knocked down and the suspect took her purse and shopping bags. Witnesses reported that the suspect ran between two houses on Garden Street. Officers cordoned off the area and conducted an extensive search of the area with the assistance of K-9’s from the DCSO and Town of Poughkeepsie Police. Officers in the back yard of a house noticed a pile of leaves and debris moving. The suspect, a 15-year-old City resident, was found hiding in the pile; he was taken into custody after a brief struggle. The juvenile was charged with Robbery and Resisting Arrest and taken to a secure juvenile holding facility. There have been three other similar robberies in the area; anyone with information about these robberies should call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 451-4000.

Make sure costumes fit well and that they are short enough to prevent tripping.
Consider using hypoallergenic make-up instead of masks, which can obstruct your child’s eyesight.
Add reflective tape to costumes and trick-or-treat bags for greater visibility.
Make certain costumes are flame-retardant.
Trick-or-treaters should have a flashlight with fresh batteries.
A parent or responsible adult should always accompany young children; older kids should trick-or-treat in groups.
Set a time when your children should be home and know what route they plan to take.
Remind your children not to enter strange houses or cars. Children should not approach homes where the front lights are not turned on.
Remind your children to stay on the sidewalk and not cut across yards or through alleys; remind them to cross streets only at corners and never from between parked cars.

Do not allow your children to consume their treats until they have checked by an adult at home. Throw away any unwrapped or spoiled items. Give any candy that could be a choking hazard (such as hard candies) to older children.

Two Arrested for Attempted Robbery

On Oct. 24, at approximately 4:20 p.m., a 46-year-old man was the victim of an attempted robbery in the area of 10 South Ave. He was attacked by three males who knocked him to the ground and demanded money. Responding Officers stopped four people matching the description of the suspect in the area of Franklin Street and South Avenue. Two were identified by the victim and were arrested on felony attempted robbery charges. One suspect is a 16-year-old Town of Poughkeepsie resident and the other is a 13-year-old city resident. The 13-year-old’s case will be handled in Dutchess County Family Court. The victim’s injuries were minor. The investigation is continuing.

Man Shot on Mill Street

On Oct. 22 at approximately 8:19 p.m., an area hospital reported that they had a gunshot victim in their ER. City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers responded and found a 30-year-old male city resident shot multiple times. The victim reported that he had been shot in the area of Mill and Charles streets by a black male. The victim gave a vague description of the suspect and conflicting locations of the incident. Three Armed Robberies Reported

Three people were robbed in three separate incidents on Wednesday, Sept. 23, between 7:55 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. It is believed these robberies are connected.

The first incident occurred on North Hamilton Street near Parker Avenue and the other two incidents occurred on Rinaldi Boulevard.

The suspect is described as being a black male in his twenties, 5’5” to 5’7” tall and 160 to 180 lbs. He may be operating a silver sedan, possibly a Honda or an Acura, with dark tinted windows and bright blue xenon headlights. He was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Woman Attacked on Market Street

A woman was attacked on Market Street at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The suspect grabbed her from behind in a bear hug and a chain was ripped from her neck as she struggled with him. The suspect is described a Hispanic male, 5'10" tall, in his early twenties with an unknown tattoo on his left bicep. He was last seen wearing very light blue shorts and a white tank top.

Earlier that same a day, a woman reported being followed by a man with a similar physical description while she was walking in the area of North Randolph Avenue at 7:35 a.m.

Man Charged With Heroin Possession

Garen Asa Fisher, 26, was arrested on a felony charge of third degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell on Carroll Street on Sept. 10.

Police were called by a concerned resident, who had observed a suspicious vehicle in the area.

Fisher was found to be in possession of 192 glassine envelopes of heroin, as well as a small amount of marijuana. He was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was held pending arraignment.

Two Vehicle Break-ins in Upper South

Arrests Made in Recent Robberies

City of Poughkeepsie Police have made several arrests in recent robberies.

On Tuesday, July 21, at 9:55 a.m., two men were robbed on Forbus Street; a 17-year-old city male and a 15-year-old city male were arrested after being identified by the victims.

On Wednesday, July 22, two men were jumped by a group of males in the 500 Block of Main Street. Responding Officers were able to locate several suspects who were positively identified by the victims. Emmanuel Stewart, 18; Christian Meyers, 18; and Shabar Carpenter, 19, were charged with second-degree robbery.

On Thursday, July 23, a man was robbed in the 600 Block of Main Street at 11:15 a.m.; a suspect matching the description of the robber provided by the victim was stopped a short distance away and was positively identified. Bryon Winfrey, 21, was charged with second-degree robbery.

Early this morning, at 2:45 a.m., a man was robbed on Cannon Street by two men, one of whom appeared to be in possession of a handgun. The suspects were located a short time later, along with a third man. One of the suspects was in possession of a BB gun and the third subject was in possession of the robbery victim's property. Bishmi Thrasher and Jonathan J. Williams, both 18, were each charged with first-degree robbery. The third male, 17, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Protect Yourself From Bicycle Theft

Summertime is a season for increased bicycle thefts and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department reminds residents to secure their bicycles. Residents should also record the serial numbers of their bicycles and take pictures of them to prove ownership should they be stolen. Bicycles should also be registered with the city. Registrations are done on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. You must be a city resident, bring the bicycle, photo identification, and bill of sale or receipt for the bicycle. If you do not have a bill of sale or receipt, an affidavit will be completed indicating you are the owner of the bicycle and that approximate date you purchased or received the bicycle (if a gift). If you are the parent of a child under the age of 14 years your name will also be on the registration. Once the simple form is complete, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department will issue a sticker to be placed on the bicycle. Registrations are valid for twoyears

Three Vehicle Break-ins Reported

City of Poughkeepsie Police today received three reports of vehicle break-ins, two in a parking garage on Civic Center Plaza and one on Mill Street between North Perry and North Clover streets. In each case windows were smashed out to gain access to the vehicles.

City Police once again remind citizens not to leave any valuables in their vehicles. If valuables must be left in a vehicle, they should be secured in the trunk and not left in plain view.

Man Charged With Burglary

City of Poughkeepsie Police arrested Jose E. Rodriguez, 39, homeless, shortly before midnight on June 8 on a felony charge of third degree burglary and misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.

Rodriguez was in possession of the proceeds from a burglary of a Smith Street business when he was arrested. That burglary had just occurred. He was charged with criminal mischief for attempting to break in to a Mill Street business.

He was held pending arraignment.

Man Arrested in Shooting

City of Poughkeepsie Police arrested Eric R. McCormick, 26, of Wingdale, on Monday, May 25 at approximately 11:53 p.m. at a gas station on Route 9 in the Town of Poughkeepsie, charging him with second degree assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, felonies, for his role in a shooting here in the city earlier that day. Town of Poughkeepsie Police assisted in the arrest, which occurred without incident.

McCormick is charged with shooting a 22-year-old Salt Point male while in the area of 6 Gray Street at approximately 3:09 p.m. The victim was struck in the leg and was treated at a local hospital.

McCormick and the victim have a mutual acquaintance who arranged for the victim to give McCormick a ride. The victim drove the suspect to the area of 6 Gray Street where the suspect got out of the victim’s vehicle. The suspect then returned to the victim’s vehicle and attempted to rob him at gunpoint. A struggle ensued and the gun discharged, striking the victim.

The victim’s injuries are not considered life threatening.

McCormick was held pending arraignment.

Vehicle Break-ins Reported

Three vehicle break ins were reported to City of Poughkeepsie this morning. One was on South Randolph Street and two were on Ferris Lane. All three incidents occurred sometime over night. Cash was taken in one case and a GPS device was taken in another. All three vehicles were unlocked.

City police remind residents to never leave valuables in their vehicles and to secure their vehicles when unattended.

Non-Profit to Conduct Door-to-Door Outreach

Three Charged With Felony Marijuana Possession

On Friday May 1, 2009 a joint investigation conducted by members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit and the United States Postal Service resulted in the arrests of three subjects for criminal possession of marihuana in the first degree, a Class C felony.

The first investigation resulted in the seizure of 22 lbs. of marihuana possessed by the following two subjects: York D. Murray (DOB 10-6-1978), last known address of 21 Collegeview Dr., Poughkeepsie; and Garfield A. Smiekle (DOB 3-2-1969), last known address of 216 Church St., Poughkeepsie. Both subjects have been referred to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as their resident status in the United States is unverified.

The second investigation resulted in the seizure of 20 lbs. of marihuana possessed by Kimya E. Bryant (DOB 12-26-1979), last known address of 4 Hoffman Ave., Poughkeepsie.

Finally, a third parcel was confiscated and found to contain approximately 15 lbs. of marihuana. The investigation is continuing. The potential “street” value of the marihuana seized is $250,000.

Community members with information regarding drug dealing in their neighborhood are encouraged to contact the City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit at 451-4060.

Police: Man Had Loaded Gun

City of Poughkeepsie Police arrested a man for illegally possessing a loaded handgun on Tuesday, April 28.

Shortly before midnight, a passerby reported that a man on Main Street was carrying a gun. Responding officers found a man matching the caller’s description about a block away from the said location, in possession of a loaded handgun.

The man, Maurice Jefferson, 22, of the City of Poughkeepsie, was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony.

Jefferson was arraigned on Wednesday at city court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, cash or bond.

On May 1, 2009 Dutchess County Probation and the New York State Police Violent Felony Warrant Squard arrested Kenyatta Jackson (DOB 8/12/90) at the Tubman Terrace Apartments on a Dutchess County Probation warrant. During his arrest, Jackson was found to be in possession of a defaced 380 caliber handgun. Johnson was arraigned on felony charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a defaced weapon. He was remanded to Dutchess County Jail.

City Man Shot to Death on Mill Street

At 12:36 p.m. this date, City of Poughkeepsie Police responded to a report of a man shot in front of 195 Mill Street at the corner of North Bridge and Mill. Responding officers found 27-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident Shanta Gaines laying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Gaines was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m.

After an investigation, Detectives arrested Daryl Rogers Jr., 24, inside an apartment on Charles Street at 4:31 p.m. Rogers, a resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, has been charged with second degree murder. A firearm was recovered at the scene of the arrest.

Police Investigating Home Invasion

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred on West Arnold Road at 7:40 a.m. on Friday, April 17. Two males forced their way into a residence at gunpoint and robbed the residents of cash before fleeing in a black SUV with tinted windows and after-market chrome rims. The suspects were described as two black males, tall, thin, possibly in their 30s.

Man Shot Sunday Morning

Two Charged With Drug Possession

On Thursday, April 16, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Police Officers Michael Labrada and Oscar Alvarez observed two subject engaged in a street-level narcotics transaction in the area of 29 North Hamilton St. Arrested were Kevin Bloomfield, 44, of 28 Corlies Avenue, and Terry L. Cherry, 55, of 268 Church Street, 2nd floor.

An ongoing investigation by members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit into heroin sales in the area of South Clinton Street, Virginia Avenue and Church Street were linked to the above arrests and led to the execution of a search warrant for the premises located at 268 Church Street, 2nd floor apartment. A number of bags of heroin were recovered, as well as $600 and a .22 caliber rifle.

Kevin Bloomfield was charged with misdemeanor loitering and misdemeanor drug possession. Terry Cherry was charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled sbustance, a Class B felony. Additional charges are pending.

Rabid Raccoon Killed in City

The City of Poughkeepsie Animal Control Office was notified on April 15 that there was a raccoon killed by a dog in the area of South Cherry and Forbus streets. Through testing, the Dutchess County Health Department confirmed that the raccoon had rabies. There was a report that several smaller raccoons that were with the animal may still be alive. Although there are instances thoughout the county in which animals have been confirmed to carry rabies, with this recent event, the public is encouraged to nofity the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department any time they observe a raccoon or other animal iwthin the city that exhibits peculiar or unexpected behavior which could be consistent with rabies. Man Arrested With Stolen Property

On April 12, 2009, at approximately 3:24 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers conducting an investigation in the area of South Grand and Willow avenues, stopped a subject matching the description of someone who needed to be interviewed. Upon speaking to the subject, he admitted to committing three vehicle break-ins in the Upper South area of the city. He was found to be in possession of numerous GPS devices, cell phones, and other stolen property. He was taken into custody without incident.

Freddy H. Anderson, 46, homeless, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and was held pending arraignment.

Numerous vehicle break-ins were reported over the weekend in the areas of Franklin Street, South Hamilton Street, South Avenue and Fountain Brook Avenue.

Four Charged With Gun Possession

Four men have been charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon following a traffic stop on North Hamilton Street at 11:57 on April 7 during which two loaded handguns were recovered. Detectives stopped the vehicle in question during the course of another investigation.

Arrested were: Daniel Pressley, 23, Sean D. Clayton, 25, Daniel D. Miller, 26, and Luis G. Reyes, 27. All four are Poughkeepsie residents.

Census Workers to Visit Local Households

In order to conduct the 2010 Decennial Census, the Census Bureau must know the address and physical location of each place where people live or stay. Woman Charged With Burglary, Robbery

Angela D. Nathan, 41, was arrested on Thursday, March 26, on two counts of burglary and two counts of robbery, felonies, for her involvement in two separate incidents.

On March 18, Nathan unlawfully entered an apartment building on South Clinton Street and stole several items. When confronted by victim, Nathan pushed her and fled on foot.

On March 8, Nathan unlawfully entered an apartment building on South Hamilton Street and stole money; she returned on March 17, breaking into the same apartment and threatening the victim with a knife.

She was held pending arraignment.

Police Seeking Missing Man

City of Poughkeepsie Police are attempting to locate Rohan Stefon Brown (DOB 1/28/83) who was last seen in the City of Poughkeepsie area on or about Aug. 8, 2008. He is described as a 26-year-old black male of Jamaican decent, 5’9" tall, weighing 190 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes.

Brown was living at 7D Flannery Ave. in the City of Poughkeepsie and had registered for the Fall 2008 semester at SUNY Albany. Brown failed to attend classes and was dropped by the administration.

Brown’s whereabouts since August are unknown. No contact with family or friends living in the City of Poughkeepsie or Dutchess County had been made.

At the time of his disappearance, Brown was operating a 2001 blue two-door Hyundai Accent sedan bearing NY Reg: DPY4895. This vehicle is also missing.

Police Probe Recent Robberies

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating several robberies that occurred over the weekend.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, a woman was robbed in the area of Charles Street by two subjects who approached her from behind and demanded her wallet before fleeing on foot. They are described as being in their late teens or early 20s, wearing masks and dark clothing. One was 5’10” and the other was over 6’ tall (Case # 09-5739)

At approximately 6:08 p.m. on March 8, in the area of North Bridge Street, a man was robbed after being jumped by four to five black males in their 20s. One was described as being 6’6” tall (Case # 09-5727)

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, a man was jumped on Cannon Street by four black males who attempted to take his wallet (Case # 09-5592)

Several people were robbed at gunpoint on Carroll Street on Friday, March 6 at approximately 11:41 p.m. (Case # 09-5587)

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, a woman was robbed of her purse by another woman on Mansion Street. The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black female in her early 20s, 5’5” tall, weighing 160 lbs. (Case # 09-5573)

Three Charged With Illegal Gun

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers were dispatched to an address on Vernon Terrace for a report of three males attempting to force their way in to a residence. It was reported that one of the subjects was armed with a handgun.

A description of the suspects was given out to patrol officers and within minutes a vehicle occupied by three males matching the description was stopped in the area of Bain Avenue and Washington Street. The subjects in the vehicle were found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. All three were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony. They are: Stanley Williams, 20, of the City of Poughkeepsie; Jihad Williams, 18, of the City of Poughkeepsie; and Terrain Christie, 20, of New Paltz. Stanley Williams is currently on probation for a prior robbery. Jihad Williams (no relation to Stanley Williams) was also arrested on a felony complaint for first-degree robbery stemming from an incident that occurred in September of 2008. Detectives had been looking for Jihad Williams for several weeks in reference to that felony complaint. All three were held pending arraignment.

None of these subjects have been charged in the Vernon Terrace incident, which remains under investigation.

Illegal Alcohol Sales at Local Bar

On Friday, Feb. 27, at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department assisted the New York State Liquor Authority and New York State Department of Motor Vehicles with an investigation concerning illegal sales of alcohol at the Sand Bar, 302 Main St. Several violations, including prohibited sale of alcoholic beverages and inadequate business records, were charged. Two bartenders were issued appearance tickets and one female patron was charged with misdemeanor possession of a forged instrument. Additional charges are pending.

Frank Moss Arrested

Frank Moss, 53, of 164 Cannon St., Poughkeepsie, and 32 Richard Road, Hyde Park, was arrested on Feb. 19 in San Diego, CA, on narcotics and weapons charges stemming from a Feb. 11 investigation and subsequent search warrants conducted by the City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit and New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team. Moss was located in San Diego by the Neighborhood Recovery Unit and NYPS CNET and was taken in to custody without incident by the San Diego Fugitive Task Force. He remains in custody awaiting extradition to New York.

Sean Hibbert Arrested for Attempted Murder

Sean R. Hibbert, 19, of the City of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on March 4 at 3:51 p.m. without incident.

Acting on a tip from the New York State Crime Stoppers hotline, together with an investigation conducted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Detective Division and assisted by the Neighborhood Recovery Unit, Hibbert was located hiding in the basement of the Rite Stop Store, 127 Winnikee Ave. At the time of his arrest, Hibbert was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a defaced serial number.

Hibbert, who was an absconder from the county’s electric monitoring program, was arrested on a county court bench warrant for robbery in the third degree. He was also charged with attempted murder in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degrees and two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Hibbert was held pending arraignment.

Crime: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3^rd. “B” Felony

Location: City of Poughkeepsie

Details: On Friday, February 27, 2009, at about 8:10AM, members of the Dutchess Co. Drug Task Force arrested Stephen Collins, aka Lloyd Collins, 36yoa in the area of Union St. and So. Perry St. in the City of Poughkeepsie. This being the result of a two month investigation into narcotic/ marihuana sales from Mr. Collins. Following his arrest, members of the task force executed a search warrant at his home at 109 Delafield St. Bldg1, Apt. 1, in the C/O Poughkeepsie. Located in his apartment was a quantity of marihuana and cocaine, scales and drug paraphernalia, along with $1400.00 in cash.

Further investigation led to an additional search warrant of a shed in the area of 105 Delafield. Inside this location were four pit bull dogs housed in crates. The SPCA was notified and responded to assist officers in the removal of all dogs. Located in the shed were three different guns; (1) Hi Point 380 cal semi auto pistol (2) Cobray PM-11, 9mm semi auto pistol (3) Ruger mini-14 223 cal. Semi auto rifle. City of Poughkeepsie police are investigating a strong-arm robbery that occurred on Friday, Feb. 20, at approximately 9:00 p.m. in the 600-Block of Main Street.

The victim reported being approached by three black males in their late 20s, one of whom asked him for change. The three subjects then surrounded the victim and foricibly removed his coat, which contained his wallet. The suspects then fled on foot.

Woman Robbed on Smith Street

At approximately 9:05 this morning, a woman was robbed at knifepoint on Smith Street. The suspect is described a black male, 6' tall with a thin build and medium complexion, in his mid 30s or 40s, short black hair, a scruffy beard that is partially gray, top front tooth missing. He was last seen wearing a dark coat and dark jeans.

City of Poughkeepsie Police are attempting to located Sean R. Hibbert, 19, who is wanted by this department for attempted murder for the Feb. 3 shooting of a 20-year-old city male. Hibbert is also wanted on 2008 bench warrant for third-degree robbery.

Two Teens Arrested for Robbery

At approximately 4:13 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, City of Poughkeepsie Police officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress in the area of Academy and Barclay streets. The two suspects held a gun to the victim’s head, took her purse and fled on foot. Officers located two individuals matching the description of the suspects in the area of Tubman Terrace. The two immediately fled on foot in different directions.

Sgt. Richard Wilson and Officers Kristoffer Adams and Sean McCarthy chased one suspect onto Nina Place, where he was taken into custody by Officers Sean Fitzgerald and Mark Digilio. A BB gun was recovered during the foot pursuit.

Meanwhile, Officers John Zeltman and Michael D’Amicantonio were pursuing the second suspect on foot while Officer Scott Dinonno was following him in an unmarked police vehicle. While fleeing the Tubman Terrace complex, the suspect violently knocked over a 69-year-old woman before running across all six lanes of traffic on Church Street. The suspect was taken into custody on South Bridge Street by Officer Dinonno. The 69-year-old woman who was knocked the ground suffered only a minor injury to her hand.

The suspects, who are both City of Poughkeepsie residents, were positively identified and were charged with second degree robbery and petit larceny. As the suspects are a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old who may be eligible for youthful offender status, their names are not being released at this time.

The robbery victim was not injured and her purse was recovered on Garfield Place.

At 4:13 p.m. this date, City of Poughkeepsie Police responded to the area of Academy and Blarclay streets for the report of a robbery at gunpoint. Two suspects were taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit. One suspect was located on Tubman Terrace and the other was apprehended on South Bridge Street. A BB-gun was also recovered.

Man Charged With Possessing Stolen Gun

On Sunday, February 8, at 11:24 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 22 Fox Terrace for a report of shots fired. Officers Edwin Acken, Garth Mason and Michael Braren observed a subject in an alley and ordered him to stop. The subject then fled into 22 Fox Terrace where he was apprehended and a 12-gauge shotgun reported stolen out of Suffolk County was recovered. Michael McCall Jr., 22, was charged with third degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property and obstruction of governmental administration, misdemeanors. A 19-year-old male was also arrested and charged with obstruction of governmental administration for attempting to prevent officers from arresting McCall.

Murder, Shooting Suspects Sought

On Dec. 26, 2008, Officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to 11 Academy St. for a report of a man shot. Responding Officers found Ronald Lewin, 27, shot. Lewin was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An investigation conducted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police has determined that Kasid Shamsiddeen, 34, was responsible for the death of Ronald Lewin. Today, a warrant for the arrest of Shamsiddeen, charging him with Murder in the 2^nd degree, was signed by City Court Judge K. Mahoney.

On Dec. 30, 2008, Officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to 13 Academy St. for a report of two subjects shot. Responding Officers found two City of Poughkeepsie residents shot at that location. An investigation conducted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police has revealed that Marlon Bryan Reynolds, 21, was responsible for the two shootings. Reynolds is the brother of Ronald Lewin, the murder victim from Dec. 26. The two victims of this shooting were associates of Shamsiddeen, the suspect in the Lewin murder. Today, warrants for the arrest of Reynolds, charging him with two counts of Attempted Murder in the 2^nd degree, were signed by City Court Judge K. Mahoney.

Man Arrested During Vehicle Break-in Detail

City of Poughkeepsie Police on Monday arrested a man who was in possession of two GPS devices stolen from vehicles. Officers were working a special detail to combat vehicle break-ins when they observed the suspect looking into parked cars. An investigation resulted in the man's arrest.

Freddy Anderson, 46, homeless, was charged with two counts of petit larceny, two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, and one count each of fourth degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar's tools, misdemeanors. He was held pending arraignment.

Three Robberies, One Arrest Made

City of Poughkeepsie Police responded to three reports of robbery this weekend with an arrest made in one case.

On Friday, Oct. 24, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a male was walking through Mansion Square Park when he was accosted by three black males wearing dark clothing (no further description available) who robbed him of his wallet. There were two black females present at the time of the incident, but they did not participate (Case #08-28309).

On Saturday, Oct. 25, at approximately 4:10 p.m., a male was assaulted in the area of the 300 Block of Church Street. An 18-year-old city male, who may be eligible for youthful offender status, was arrested in the incident (Case #08-28380).

On Sunday, Oct. 26, at approximately 8:40 p.m., a male was assaulted and robbed on Hammersley Avenue. The suspects were described as four to five black males and a black female (no further description available). The victim’s cell phone and cash were taken (Case #08-28478).

Vehicle Break-in on Church Street

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating a vehicle break-in that occurred in the 200 Block of Church Street at 10 p.m. on Oct. 23. A witness observed the suspect take CDs from a truck. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'8", with dark hair and a full dark beard. He was alst seen wearing a blue hat and carrying a blue duffel and a black bag.

Three Vehicle Break-ins Reported

City of Poughkeepsie Police repsonded to three reports of vehicle break-ins this weekend. The first occurred on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:42 a.m. when a black male was observed breaking into a truck on North White Street.

The second occurred at 38 Civic Center Plaza between 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, and 6:57 a.m. this morning. A third vehicle break-in was reported on Platt Street at 7:17 a.m. today.

Four Arrested in Stolen Car

City of Poughkeepsie Police arrested four men yesterday on felony charges of second degree criminal possession of a weapon and third degree criminal possession of stolen property.

At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Oct. 16, Police Officer Anthony Morrone observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen to New York State Police in Wappingers Falls. Information was developed that the four occupants of the vehicle were possibly armed. The vehicle was stopped in a parking lot of 120 Hudson Avenue and the occupants were taken into custody without incident. A handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Two of those arrested are 17-years-old and their names are being withheld. The other two men who were arrested are Taquon Webb, 19, and Carlton Woods Jr., 18, both residents of the City of Poughkeepsie.

At 9:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, a food delivery driver was assaulted and robbed on Fox Terrace by a group of four to six young black males. The suspects beat the victim and stole property from him before fleeing on bicycles. (Case # 08-26055)

Shortly after 12:40 a.m. today another man was attacked and robbed as he rode his bicycle in the area of Hammersley Avenue. The suspects are described as two black males of average height wearing dark hoodies. (Case # 08-26072)

Three Level 3 Sex Offenders Move to City

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is advising residents that three Level 3 Sex Offenders have informed the department that they will be living in the city.

Level 3 sex offenders are considered high risk for re-offending.

Darryl Wright, 46, is homeless. He was convicted in 1989 of first-degree sodomy and first-degree rape. His victim was an adult female.

Jerod S. Sweat, 28, is homeless. He was convicted in 1997 of first-degree sexual abuse. His victim was an eight-year-old male.

Kentweal N. Catts, 30, is residing at 13 Hooker Avenue. He was convicted in 2004 of first-degree sexual abuse. His victim was a 17-year-old female.

Man Had Loaded Illegal Gun

City of Poughkeepsie Police today arrested Daquan R. Clemmons on felony charges of first degree robbery and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. He was also charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Clemmons, 19, of Cottage Street, is charged with robbery for his involvement in an Aug. 21 incident that took place at the intersection of Church Street and Palmer Avenue. Clemmons grabbed the victim from behind and restrained him while Rashaan Ingram displayed a handgun and took $58 from the victim’s person. Ingram, 18, of Hammersly Avenue, was arrested on Aug. 22.

Clemmons was arrested while in a vehicle on Tubman Terrace. Incidental to his arrest, he was found to be in possession of an illegal, loaded semi-automatic pistol and a quantity of cocaine.

The weapon recovered during Clemmons’ arrest was the fifth illegal handgun recovered by city police since Sunday, Sept. 21. All of the weapons were recovered in separate incidents.

Clemmons is being held pending arraignment.

Vehicle Break-in on Garden Street

Two Arrested for Illegal Handguns

City of Poughkeepsie Police arrested two men for possessing illegal handguns in two separate incidents last night.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Sept. 22, Officers Christopher Libolt and Kristoffer Adams responded to the area of Mansion Square Park for a report of a man with a gun. They observed a man matching the suspect description and detained him for further investigation. A search of the man’s person revealed he was in possession of a loaded, illegal handgun, as well as some narcotics and marijuana. City of Poughkeepsie resident Tyrael Johnson (DOB 6/19/84) was arrested on felony charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and a violation charge of unlawful possession of marijuana.

In a separate incident, at approximately 10:35 p.m., Officers James Fiori, Edward Craig and Garth Mason were dispatched to a report of an attempted robbery on Mill Street. Officers Fiori and Mason observed a male matching the suspect description and they attempted to interview him, but he fled on foot. He was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit and was found to be in possession of a loaded, illegal handgun as well as some narcotics. Roshawn Stroman (DOB 4/21/81), of the City of Poughkeepsie, was charged with attempted first-degree robbery and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Both men were held in city lock-up pending arraignment.

A handgun reported stolen in 2006 to New York State Police in Highland was also recovered yesterday, following the execution of a search warrant during the investigation of a shooting on Muldowney Circle at 10:10 a.m.

City of Poughkeepsie Police responded this morning to two vehicle break-ins that occurred overnight. One took place on North Bridge Street and the other on Foster Street. In the first case the car’s window was smashed with a rock. In the second case, the car was left unsecured. Wallets were taken in both incidents and witnesses in both incidents observed a dark green Subaru in the vicinity.

A vehicle on Gerald Drive had its window broken with a rock. Cigarettes were taken from the car.

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating a home invasion robbery on Fox Terrace that occurred at 10:15 a.m. this morning (Aug. 27).

The victim woke up to find two black males in his apartment. The suspects threatened the victim with knives and stole cash and jewelry before fleeing.

Both suspects are described as tall with thin builds, weighing 160 to 170 lbs. One suspect had a thin beard and the other was clean-shaven.

Man Assaulted on North Hamilton Street

City of Poughkeepsie Police received a report early this morning that a man had been assaulted on North Hamilton Street.

The victim was walking toward Main Street on North Hamilton Street shortly after midnight on Aug. 26 when he was attacked by an unidentified male who was armed with a knife. The victim suffered a cut to his hand while struggling with the suspect.

The victim was highly intoxicated at the time of his assault and was unable to identify his attacker.

Police Investigate Two Robberies

City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating two robberies that occurred on Saturday, Aug. 23.

The first occurred on South Hamilton Street at 10:36 p.m. when the victim was robbed by a group of six or seven black male teenagers. There was no weapon involved. (Case # 08-22741)

The second occurred in King Street Park at 9:00 p.m. when a black male demanded a female give him her purse. He is described as being in his twenties, 5’11” tall, weighing 150 lbs. (Case # 08-22734)

Recent Vehicle Break-ins Reported

City of Poughkeepsie Police received two reports of vehicle break-ins on Aug. 6. One occurred in a parking deck on Cannon Street overnight and the other occurred in the area of Waryas Park between 12:30 and 1 p.m. on Aug. 5.

Property taken includes a cell phone, CDs, and credit cards. Neither car was locked.

City Police remind residents to not leave valuables in their vehicles and to lock their vehicles at all times. If valuables must be left in your car, they should be secured inside the trunk.

NYPIRG to Conduct Community Outreach

The New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) will be conducting a door-to-door community outreach in the City of Poughkeepsie from Aug. 11 through Aug. 14. City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating five reports of vehicle break-ins that occurred over the weekend, four of them in the Southside.

Vehicle break-ins were reported on Elmwood Avenue, Woodland Avenue, Mitchell Avenue, Young Street and Cannon Street. Property taken includes X-M radios, cell phones, MP3 players, GPS devices and a purse.

Residents are again urged to not leave their valuables in their vehicles. Suction cups for GPS devices and other accessories should not be left in plain view. If valuables must be left in a vehicle, they should be secured in the trunk.

Man Arrested for Robbing Store

A 37-year-old city man was arrested on Sunday, June 20, in Malcolm X Park on Mansion Street on a felony charge of third degree robbery after he demanded money from a city store clerk and then fled the business on foot with its cash register at approximately 3:55 p.m. The suspect and the damaged cash register were located in Malcolm X Park a short time later.

John Jastrebski, a city resident, was also charged with fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property, third degree criminal mischief, attempted fourth degree criminal mischief and tampering with evidence. He was also charged with a local ordinance against littering for dumping the cash register into the Fallkill Creek. The tampering charge stems from Jastrebski attempting to chew and swallow cash that was found on his person. He was held pending arraignment.

Trinity Square Shooting Leads to Search Warrant, Arrests

On July 16, 2008 at 12:46 a.m. Officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to the area of Trinity Square (South Hamilton/Hooker Avenue) for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a person identified as Michael J. Gochnour, age 25 (8/31/1982), a resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, who had been shot one time in his leg. Gochnour claimed that he had been shot by an unknown person.

After an investigation by members of the patrol and detective divisions, it was determined that Gochnour had accidentally shot himself in the leg and that he had been with another person at the time, identified as Larry Gantt, Jr., age 30 (9/23/1977), who is currently on parole. It is believed that after Gochnour shot himself, he gave the gun to Gantt who then left the scene.

NYS Division of Parole was contacted and a parole warrant for Gantt was issued. At approximately 9:00 a.m. on July 17, 2008, parole officers, members of the detective division and the patrol division went to 43 Vernon Terrace, 2^nd Floor and arrested Gantt on the parole warrant. At approximately 5:00 p.m. on July 17, a search warrant was executed at Gantt’s apartment and a large quantity of narcotics (street value approximately $7,500.00) and a handgun were recovered. Gantt was subsequently charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2^nd degree, a class C felony. Gantt is currently being held in City of Poughkeepsie lockup, pending arraignment. Gochnour was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2^nd degree, a class C felony. Gochnour is currently being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
