DAYTIME BURGLARY ALERT

A rash of residential burglaries has the Guilderland Police asking residents to report anything suspicious in their neighborhood.

These burglaries are similar in nature and appear to be related. The most recent burglaries have occurred during the daytime hours and in the west area of the town over the past few months.

In several of these incidents, neighbors saw something out of the ordinary, which was most likely the suspect(s) vehicle or the actual suspect(s) themselves.

There is no better gauge of what is abnormal in a neighborhood than what the neighbors themselves see happening. With this in mind trust your instincts. We are urging residents to be aware and vigilant about the security of their property, as well as their neighbors, and to notify us immediately of any suspicious persons, vehicles or other circumstances.

We are also reminding residents of some simple precautions you can take to make your home less inviting to thieves such as:

-lock your doors and windows when heading out, even for a short period of time

-have a radio or television on with the volume at a reasonable level so your residence appears to be occupied

-install an alarm system and use it regularly

-secure your valuables, document serial numbers, and photograph jewelry and other possessions that have no serial number. Keep these records in a safe place.
