HOMEWOOD CICTZENS POLICE ACADEMY 2012

The next session of the Homewood Citizen Police Academy will begin on March 6, 2012 and run for seven consecutive Tuesdays nights. Food will be provided each night by some of Homewood’s finest restaurants. Through presentations and demonstrations by the officers themselves, you’ll learn some of the techniques and resources officers use to train for duty, from traffic stops to drug enforcement.

Topics covered include: Departmental overview, budget, officer selection, tour of headquarters, patrol, communications, corrections, jail, traffic stops, arrests, investigations, narcotics, Tactical team Demonstration and a range day where participates will be able to shoot various police department weapons.

Enjoy the holiday season, but beware of your surroundings.

Avoid leaving electronics and other items in your vehicle.

Make sure your residence doors and windows are secured.

Properly dispose of electronic boxes and gift wrappings.

Place all used gift wrappings in dark colored trash bags.

Don’t advertise or alert criminals of recent gifts or purchases.

Use caution when interacting with solicitors.

Do not answer the door if you do not fell safe.

Solicitors must have a license and cannot operate before 9:00am or after 6:00 pm.

Please check on the elderly residents who may live alone.

On Saturday morning, December 3^rd, there will be a large crane on 29^th AVE from 0600 HRS until approx 1300 HRS. Steel City Heating and Cooling will be taking the A/C unit off the top of the Regions Bank Building at #1 Independence Plaza. They have hired a barricade service and the plan is to narrow 29^th to one lane open each way.

Holiday Proactive Patrol

Beginning November 25 and running through December 31 citizens can expect to see more Homewood Police Officers in the shopping areas of Homewood.

There will be extra Officers in the area of Brookwood Mall, 18^th Street, Wildwood, Greensprings Highway and West Valley Avenue.

Officers will be patrolling the parking lots being visible and preventing criminal activity.

Shoppers are reminded to be alert and call 911 immediately if they see a suspicious person or vehicle.

Robbery Arrest

Homewood Detective signed warrants on Danjuma Morris for a robbery that occurred on 10-26-11 at 11:35 p.m. in the 900 block of Mansard Drive, Homewood. During the robbery the victim’s car keys were stolen. Two hours later the Morris returned and stole the victim’s car. Morris jumped out of the vehicle and ran when the Police attempted to stop the car.

On 10-27-11 a Homewood Patrol Officer while patrolling Mansard Drive observed Morris walking in the area and detained him because he matched the description of the robbery suspect.

Morris was interviewed and confessed to the robbery and stealing the victim’s car.

Robbery 1^st warrant- $30,000 bond

Theft of property 1^st warrant- $20,000 bond

Morris is 18 years old and lists a Birmingham address.

Morris has been arrested and transported to the Jefferson County jail.

9-9-11, 9:00 pm, 813 Greensprings Hwy (Mi Pueblo Supermarket). Victim said she was approached by a Hispanic male who presented a handgun and grabbed her purse. Suspect got into silver Toyota Four Runner driven a Hispanic male.

Burglary

9-10-11, 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm, Soccer Park, 1800 South Lakeshore Drive. Vehicle entered by unknown means and a purse was stolen.

Between 9-10-11, 10:00 pm and 9-11-11, 5:55 am, 200 Robert Jemison Road. Kitchen window broken, Dell computer and DVD player stolen.

9-12-11, 7:30 am-10:15 am, YMCA, 3551 Independence Drive. Passenger side window broken out on a vehicle. Debit card, driver’s license and portable Sony Play station stolen.

9-12-11, 8:35 pm, 212 Robert Jemison Road, Victim came home to find a black male (5’10”, thin build, wearing red shirt and blue jeans, black baseball cap) in the apartment. Sliding glass door had been broken. Suspect ran from scene. Play Station 3 stolen.

Between 9-13-11, 7:30 pm and 9-14-11, 6:30 am, 260 Roadway Inn. Generator stolen from Ford pick up truck.

9-14-11, 8:00 am-9:55 pm, 1300 block Shades Crest Road. Side door forced open to residence. Apple computer and DVD player Nintendo stolen.

9-15-11, 11:00 am-1:15 pm, 100 block Olympia Drive. Front door forced open and front window broken. Witness saw two black males wearing black shorts and one had a black shirt and the other had on a red shirt walk out the residence carrying TV’s. Suspects left in an older large red car.

Officers from every department will come speak on topics ranging from crime scene investigation and traffic stops to crimes against persons and property. You'll also witness a dramatic demonstration by the Homewood Tactical Team and enjoy a day of shooting instruction at the firing range. oThe program is free of charge and runs for 8 weeks on Tuesday nights, 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Robbery Arrest

On 8-22-11 at 5:00 a.m. victim said she was sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot at the Drury Inn, 160 Statefarm Pkwy when she was approached by two black males armed with a hand gun. The suspects stole her purse and her vehicle. One of the suspects left in the victim’s vehicle and the other suspect drove off in a red Ford Expedition. Homewood Police Officer located the red Ford Expedition on I-65, stopped the Expedition and placed the driver under arrest.

Homewood Detective located the second suspect and recovered the victim’s vehicle.

Burglary

8-22-11, between 9:00 a.m. & 4:30 p.m., 300 block Olympia Drive. Front door forced open. Stolen were a 24” TV, two watches and a Nikon camera.

8-21-11, between 8:15 pm & 10:30 pm, 200 block Robert Jemison Road. Unknown person entered unlocked sliding glass door and stole a lap top computer.

8-10-11, 4:45 p.m. - 1000 block Rue Mason, black male observed running from an apartment. Kitchen window had been broken, apartment had been ransacked.

8-10-11, 1:02 a.m., 2500 block 19^th Street South. Officers responded to an alarm and found a side door open. Missing is a TV.

8-9-11, 2:30 p.m., 600 block Hambaugh Terrace. Front door open and lock was damaged, two black males seen in area acting suspicious driving a gray four door sedan.

Stolen vehicle

8-10-11, between 1:30 p.m. and 4:40 p.m., 2010 Medical Center Drive. Victim reported that her 1994 red Mazda Miata was stolen.

8-2-11, between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., 260 Oxmoor Road. Victim reported her 2000 Mazda Millennia was stolen. Key was accidentally left in truck lock.

On 7-25-11 at 4:00 p.m. Homewood Police Department Narcotics Unit, The Homewood Police Department Tactical team and the Homewood Police Department Special Operations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at a hotel room at the Roadway Inn 260 Oxmoor Road Homewood, Alabama.

Items were found in the room that are used in the production of Methamphetamine including Coleman fuel, ice packs, liquid drain opener, tubing, lithium batteries, household lye, coffee filters, hydrogen peroxide, wire cutters and empty Pseudoephedrine blister packs.

Arrested was John Sorensen for Unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance 2^nd degree. Sorensen is 28 years old and lists a Birmingham address.

Locations of the car burglaries include the jogging trail at South Lakeshore, Aspen Circle, Manhattan Street, Broadway Street, Poinciana Drive, South Wood Circle, Green Springs Hwy, WildForest Drive, Robert Jemison Road, Oak Leaf Circle, and Columbiana Road.

7-3-11, between 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., walking trail parking lot South Lakeshore Drive at Columbiana Road. Passenger side window broken out on a 2008 Chevrolet pick- up truck. Purse stolen. Purse was later found on the walking trail.

7-4-11, between 10:30 a.m. and 11:20 a.m., walking trail parking lot South Lakeshore Drive at Columbiana Road. Driver side window broken out on a 2010 Chevrolet pick-up truck. No items missing from truck. Alarm may have scared off suspect.

Law enforcement officers from around Alabama will participate in the annual COPS ON TOP fundraising campaign for Special Olympics to be held this Friday and Saturday at locations around central and northern Alabama. The Homewood Police Department and Mountain Brook Police Department will be at the Wal-Mart located at 209 Lakeshore Parkway from 7:00 AM Friday until 5:00 PM on Saturday. On 6-14-11, Homewood Detective signed two robbery warrants on Kevin Buchanan for robberies in Homewood on 5-16-11 at 200 Robert Jemison Road and 5-18-11 at 39 Aspen Cove. Buchanan was also involved in the robbery/shooting at McDonalds on Greensprings Hwy on 5-23-11.

Buchanan is currently in custody at the Jefferson County jail.

Buchanan is 21 years old and has a Birmingham address.

In the past week (May 23- May 31) Homewood has had a rash of burglaries.

A majority of the residential burglaries were in apartment complexes. Entry unusually made by forcing open a door or breaking a window.

The car burglaries have been occurring mostly in apartment complexes; Lakeshore Court, Rue Deville and Hickory Knoll. A lot of the vehicles were unlocked. Items stolen include GPS, IPod, wallets, gift cards, and cell phones.

Over the Memorial Holiday weekend from Friday, May 27- Monday, May 31 Homewood Officers arrested 43 persons including 8 D.U.I.’s.

As we have emphasized in the past many times, lock your vehicles and do not leave valuables in your vehicles. Call 911 if you see a suspicious person in your neighborhood.

On May 23, 2011 at 6:45 p.m. Homewood Officers responded to a shooting in the parking lot of McDonalds, 818 Green springs Highway. When Homewood Officers arrived they observed a white female that had been shot in the shoulder. Witness said that there were two black male suspects involved. One suspect left on foot and the other suspect drove off in a silver car. Homewood Officers later noticed a vehicle matching the description given by the witness driving by the crime scene. Officers stopped the car and arrested the driver.

The second suspect was later arrested behind Kentucky Fried Chicken, 828 Greensprings Highway.

The following warrants were signed by a Homewood Detective:

Kevin Fred Buchanan, 21 years old, has a Birmingham address

Robbery 1st degree- $60,000 bond

Lateek Michael Jones, 21 years old, has a Homewood address

Attempted murder- $60,000 bond

Robbery 1^ST degree- $60,000 bond

Jones and Buchanan were transferred from the Homewood jail to the Jefferson County Jail.

5-14-11, 5:20 p.m., 900 Valley Ridge Drive. Victim said he was approached by two black males at gunpoint and demanded his money. Suspects ran off on foot.

5-7-11, 10:10 p.m., 200 block Robert Jemison Road. Victim said that two black males approached her as she sat in her car, pointed a gun at her and told her”Give me your money.” Suspects ran off on foot.

5-2-11, 8:20 p.m., 400 block Edgecrest Drive. Two victims state they were sitting on the steps when they approached by two black males wearing red baggy t-shirts. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim and stole the victim’s wallet. Suspects ran off on foot.

Burglary

5-14-11, 2:12 a.m., 1831 28^th Avenue South. While on patrol Homewood Officer observed a broken front glass door at Salsaritas. Brick had been thrown through the door. Cash register had been damaged. No money has been stolen.

Between 5-12-11 and 5-14-11, 300 block Lucerne Blvd. Front door had been forced open and laptop computer stolen.

5-15-11, between 8:45 a.m. and 8:00p.m., 100 block aspen Circle. Victim said that unknown person entered his apartment and stole his LCD TV, Playstation, tennis shoes, jewelry and gift card. No sign of forced entry.

Between 5-14-11 and 5-16-11, 211 Lakeshore Pkwy (Chick-fila). Drive through window had been pried open. Nothing appeared to have stolen.

We Love Homewood Day 2011 Events

Homewood City Schools Spirit Scamber 5k/10k/ 1 mile Fun Run at Homewood High School. Race starts at 7:30 a.m.

We Love Homewood Day will be at Homewood Central Park on Oxmoor Road, Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be bar-b-que, baked goods, inflatable’s, music, arts and crafts, sidewalk chalk expo and a demonstration of medieval culture and weapons.

The We love Homewood Parade will start at the Homewood Library at 6:00 p.m. and ends at Edgewood (Oxmoor Road and Broadway Street). Ridge Road which runs on the east side of the Homewood library will be closed from Roseland Drive to Oxmoor Road starting at 5:00 p.m. so that the parade can be organized.

The street party will be at Edgewood (Oxmoor Road and Broadway Street) and will begin after the parade. Oxmoor Road will be shutdown at Broadway Street from 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for the street party.

There have been several car burglaries in the Edgewood and Oak Grove areas of Homewood in the past two months. We are asking the public to lock their car doors and do not leave valuables in their cars.

Possible suspects are two young white males and one young black male. Citizens should be alert for anyone on foot or in vehicles that look suspicious in their neighborhood or hear suspicious noises late at night or early in the morning. Contact the Homewood Police by calling 911.

If you happen to be a victim of a burglary and have items that have serial numbers it would help to have a record of the serial numbers or mark the property with some type or identifying mark.

Do not hesitate to call the Homewood Police at 911 to report a suspicious person or vehicle. We have been able to make several arrest recenly because citizens called us quickly.

The statewide Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run “Cops on Top” at Wal-mart scheduled for April 29^th and 30^th is cancelled due to Wednesday’s tornado devastation. Many of the police officers and deputy sheriffs who planned this event are now actively involved in the relief efforts. Between 4-9-11, 10:00 p.m. and 4-10-11, 9:30 a.m. There were several items taken from unlocked vehicles on Kent Lane, Hall Avenue, and Grove Street. A total of eight vehicles were entered. Stolen were credit cards, money, GPS, radar detector, wallet, back pack and books.

Keep vehicles locked.

On 4-1-11, at 2:25 p.m., Homewood Officers were dispatched to 211 West Oxmoor Road on a robbery call. Victim said he was robbed by two black males who grabbed him and took his wallet. Witnesses stated they saw the two suspects run into an apartment building at Highland Peak Apartments. Homewood Officers searched the apartments and located the two suspects and placed them under arrest for robbery.

History of prostitution (Texas) known to stay in motels around Birmingham area.

Amber Michelle Abram, B/F 30 years old, 5'10" 132 lbs, brown eyes, black hair.

Aka Amber Abrams, Amber Hood. Tattoo on abdomen, left shoulder, right shoulder.

These two are believed to be staying/traveling together.

Between 3-22-11, 10:30 p.m. and 3-23-11, 7:30 a.m., 500 block Tamworth Lane. Apple computer, Nikon camera and cell phone stolen from a Chevrolet Tahoe. Unknown if vehicle was locked.

Between 3-19-11 and 3-22-11, 100 block Olympia Drive. Patio door broken to an apartment. Apartment was ransacked. Nothing taken.

Between 3-19-11, 10:00 p.m. and 3-20-11, 6:30 a.m., 300 block Westover Drive. Entry made to an unlocked Chevrolet pick- up truck. Hand gun stolen.

3-14-11, 1:30 p.m., 300 block Cedar Path Drive. Two black males forced door open to an apartment but ran when they saw the residents were home. Suspects may have been driving an older white utility pickup truck.

Robbery

3-15-11, 2:00 a.m., 1200 block West Lakeshore Drive. Victim states he was walking through the parking lot when a Hispanic/white male grabbed him, threw him to the ground and punched him. Suspect took money from victim’s wallet.

3-13-11, 4:05 p.m., 100 block Aspen Circle. Victim stated he was attacked by unknown black male who cut him in the neck with a knife. Victim injuries not serious.

3-10-11, 11:02 p.m., Micro Tel 251 Summit Pkwy. Black male walked in to the Microtel, implied he had a gun and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk locked herself in the back office and called the Homewood Police. Suspect left in a dark colored pick- up truck. The truck was located on West Oxmoor Road by night shift patrol officers. Truck was stopped and suspect was placed under arrest and charged with robbery.

3-8-11, 10:48 p.m., 221 Lakeshore Pkwy. Officers responded to an alarm and discovered the front glass window broken out. Security Video shows a black male 20-30 years old, wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans break a window and enter the store. Stolen were several cell phones.

3-8-11, between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., 200 block Oxmoor Circle. Rear window was broken out on a 2002 Nissan Pick-up. No items taken from vehicle.

Chili Cook Off

The annual Exceptional Foundation Chili Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, March 5^th from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Homewood Park. This event has grown every year and we expect this year to be no different. Expect heavy traffic congestion in the Oxmoor Road/ Central Avenue area during this event. As part of the traffic control plan, several streets in the area will be coned on one side to allow emergency vehicles to pass through. There will also be streets designated as one-way. There will be extra Police Officer’s working the event.

Between February 7^th and February 28^th, victim said his 2003 Suzuki Motorcycle was stolen from the 2900 block of 19^th Street South.

2-28-11, Victim said that his lost his wallet in the 200 block of Lakeshore Drive and someone has used his credit and debit cards at businesses in the Birmingham area.

2-27-11, 12:15 p.m., I-65 and Oxmoor Road. Black male arrested during a traffic stop for having a stolen gun and being forbidden to poses a firearm. Female passenger arrested for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (needle and spoon).

2011 Red Nose Run

Red Nose Run will be Saturday, January 8^th 2011 in Homewood. There will be three races: 10 mile starting at 7:00 a.m., 5k starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 1 mile fun run starts at 9:30 a.m.

The 10 mile and 5k races will start at the corner of 28^th Avenue South and 19^th Place South.

19^th Street in front of Homewood City Hall will be closed till 12:00 p.m. for an after run gathering.

Expect traffic delays in Homewood Saturday morning.

The white male struck him in the leg and back with a baseball bat. Suspects took victims cell phone, money, debit card and a computer.

On 12-15-10, 7:50 a.m., Birmingham Police Department Officer attempted to stop a black male driving a stolen Infinity but the driver refused to stop. The Infinity struck a vehicle at the intersection of Oxmoor Road and East Hawthorne in Homewood. Driver attempted to run from the scene on foot but was captured by a Birmingham Police Officer. No one was injured.

12-9-10, 10:00 a.m.-10:20 a.m., Exceptional Foundation (1616 Oxmoor Road), dropping off child, left vehicle unlocked and purse was stolen out of vehicle.

12-1-10, 6:00 p.m.-6:05 p.m., ABC Daycare (610 Columbiana Road), picking up child, left vehicle unlocked and purse is stolen from vehicle. Vehicle also left running.

5 purses have been stolen from unlocked vehicles at Homewood daycares and churches during drop off and pick-up times since 12-7-10.

12-8-10, 9:30 a.m.-9:31 a.m., 110 West Hawthorne Road (Allsaints Church). Victim goes into the church, leaves vehicle unlocked, purse is stolen from vehicle.

11-18-10, 10:25 p.m., 500 block of Oxmoor. Witness observed black male taking tools out of pick- up truck. Officers located the suspect on Morris Blvd where he was placed under arrest for burglary.

On 11-16-10 at 1:47 a.m., a Homewood Patrol Officer observed three white males on foot at the intersection of Broadway Street and Oxmoor Road. Officer stopped and spoke to the individuals and discovered they were in possession of screwdrivers, flashlights, pliers and a hammer. Also found were an i-pod, GPS, binoculars and credit cards.

Officers found several vehicles that had been broken into the area of Clermont Drive.

The three suspects were placed under arrest for burglary and several other charges.

Recent crime in Homewood

10-29-10, 6:40 a.m., 3410 Independence Drive. White male threw a rock through the front glass window. White male then went inside business and appeared to have a gun in his pocket and took money/jewelry from victim. Suspect described as 6’ 180 lbs, late twenties, wearing blue hoodie and blue jeans.

10-29-10, 12:25 p.m., 40 Aspen Cove. Victim said he was walking through the parking lot when he was approached by two black males armed with a handgun. Victim said the suspects pushed him to the ground, punched him and took money from his pocket.

Between 10-29-10, 11:00 a.m. and 10-30-10, 3:00 a.m., 200 block Robert Jemison Road. Someone entered apartment through unlocked patio door and took an I-pod, Playstation, cell phone and computer.

Between 10-29-10, 8:00 p.m. and 10-3-10, 6:00 a.m., 221 Lakeshore Parkway. Front glass door broken out. Taken was a television and money.

10-30-10, 11:35 a.m., 307 Oxmoor Road. Victim said she left her vehicle door open and a charcoal grey SUV with tinted windows pulled beside her vehicle and someone reached in her vehicle and took her purse.

11-1-10, between 7:15 a.m. & 5:55 p.m., 1500 block of Berry Road, front door forced open. TV, radio, computer and jewelry taken.

11-2-10, 12:30 a.m., 195 Oxmoor Road. Two black males in a 1996 Dodge Stratus approached victim while he was attempting to repossess a 2006 gold Pontiac G-6. One of the suspects drove off in the Pontiac damaging the wrecker it was attached to. Suspects left the Dodge Stratus at the scene.

HPD "Trick or Treat" will be Saturday, October 30th

The Homewood Police Department will once again be hosting a "Trick or Treat" for area children on Saturday night, October 30th. The event will begin at 5:30 that evening and will go until 8:00. Volunteers from the Homewood Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA)will be staffing this event, just as they have the past several years. Homewood Fire Station #1 Open House and Dedication Ceremony

The Homewood Fire Department will be hosting an open house for the community to stop by and tour their new fire station that has been recently completed. The fire station will be open to visitors October 29^th through October 31^st from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm daily. A formal dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for October 29^th at 4:00 pm. The ceremony will feature the Homewood Fire Department Honor Guard, the National Anthem to be sung by Councilman Walter Jones, Keynote by the Honorable Mayor Scott McBrayer and Dedication remarks by Fire Chief John Bresnan. Immediately following the dedication ceremony, the Homewood Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a ribbon cutting by Mayor McBrayer, the Homewood City Council and Chief Bresnan.

Brookwood Medical Center Drive will be closed for 24 hours on November 6th, 2010 for the installation of utility piping. The road will close at 12:01 am and remain closed until 12:00 pm. The utility company will hire police officers to direct traffic and assist citizens with directions. The road work will be across Brookwood Medical Center Drive between the employee parking deck and the visitor parking deck. The public will still be able to access the main hospital entrance and emergency room by exiting on Brookwood Medical Center Drive from Highway 31.

On 10-15-10 a robbery 3^rd degree warrant was issued by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Charles King for the robbery of a business at 2808 18^th Street on 10-14-10 at 2:00 p.m.

Bond is $15,000.

King was transferred from the Homewood City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail on Friday, 10-15-10.

King is 25 years old and lists a Birmingham address.

10-14-10, 2:00 p.m., 2808 18^th Street South. White male came into the business and took money from a sales desk drawer. When confronted by employees he pushed the employees to the ground and ran from the business with several citizens after him. Suspect hid in the bathroom of Wolf Camera and was held there by employees till Homewood Police Officers placed him under arrest.

On 10-13-10 at 12:45 a.m. Homewood Officers responded to a car burglary in progress in the 500-600 block of Broadway. An Officer stopped the suspect vehicle as it was leaving the area and arrested the driver. Passenger in the vehicle ran from the scene and after a foot chase he was placed under arrest.

Four cars were entered and all were unlocked.

Thanks to an alert citizen who called this in the suspects were placed under arrest.

Between 9-28-10, 7:30 p.m. and 9-29-10, 12:00 p.m., 406 West Valley Avenue. Someone broke the front glass door. Stolen was a flat screen TV and laptop computer.

9-30-10, 7:30 a.m. & 4:00 p.m., 100 block Aspen Circle. Apartment entered possibly through unlocked window. Stolen was Playstation, games and 3 baseball hats.

9-17-10, 11:30 p.m., 1100 block Thornwood Drive. Two Hispanic males said they robbed by three black males armed with pistols in the parking lot. Suspects described as wearing white shirts, black pants and having short hair. Suspects believed to be 16-18 years old. Suspects left in a 4 door black car.

Burglary

9-18-10, 3:00 a.m., 100 block Hickory Knoll. Witness heard a car alarm and a banging noise and saw a black female pulling a stereo from a car. Female suspect left in a grey Chevrolet Equinox.

9-19-10, 2:00 p.m. -10:15 p.m., Comfort Inn, 226 Statefarm Pkwy. Chevrolet Silverado broken into by breaking window. I-touch, GPS, tools stolen.

9-19-10, 7:00 a.m.-9:20 a.m., Drury Inn, 160 Statefarm Pkwy. Passenger side window broken out on a GMC SUV. Wallet, GPS and stereo stolen.

9-20-10, 12:30 a.m., 1600 block Valley Avenue. Homewood officers to a call of two black males who were pulling on vehicle door handles and one of the suspects was inside a white pick-up truck. Officers arrived and found the suspect inside the pick-up and placed him under arrest. The second suspect ran from the scene and was placed under arrest after he was captured by officers on foot.

9-10-10, 1:25 a.m., 300 block Berkley Place, Victim stated he heard someone in his garage went to investigate and discovered a black male pushing a lawn mower out of the garage. Victim confronted the suspect who struck him in the arm with a stick. Suspect left in a small truck with a loud muffler. Suspect described as in his early 40’s, dark complexion and has a limp when he runs.

9-11-10, 6:36 a.m., 437 Greensprings Hwy, Officers responded to an alarm and found a fence that was ripped open and glass door broken. Taken was a computer. Cash register was damaged.

Between 9-11-10 and 9-13-10, 200 block Robert Jemison Road, Apartment entered through sliding glass

Door. Taken was a T.V. and jewelry.

9-13-10, 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., 900 block of Valley Ridge Drive. Front door forced open. T.V., stereo, clothing, CD’s and DVD’s taken.

9-15-10, 2:20 a.m., 200 block Statefarm Pkwy. Officers received a call of 4 intoxicated white males trying to buy food at the drive thru at McDonalds. Upon arrival a male was arrested hiding behind bushes. The 3 three other males were found on the roof of Star Bucks. Homewood Fire Department was called to the scene to get the males off the roof. All were arrested for minor in possession of alcohol.

On 8-26-10 at 1:00 p.m., a debit card was stolen from a table at Applebees, Brookwood Village. The debit card was used later in the day at the Wal Mart in Homewood by a black male, 6’1” 250 lbs approximately 40-45 years of age. Suspect was driving a 1995 maroon Nissan 4 door Sentra.

8-24-10, 11:32 a.m. Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of Valley Ridge Drive. Witness stated three black males had broken into an apartment and were loading property in a black Malibu. Homewood Patrol Officers stopped the Malibu on Valley Avenue and arrested Cordeiro Taylor, Deckeon Moore and Quinton Pennington.

The following warrants have been signed on all three:

Burglary 3rd- $15,000 bond

Theft of Property 2nd-$30,000 bond

Defendants are are in custody at the Homewood City Jail awaiting transfer to the Jefferson County Jail.

8-20-10, Lawn mower reported stolen from garage in the 300 block of Poinciana Drive.

8-20-10, 12:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m., 100 block Aspen Valley. Apartment entered by breaking window with brick. Stolen was Play Station and games.

8-24-10, 12:36 a.m., 140 Statefarm Pkwy (Best Western). Black male armed with a handgun robbed the front desk clerk of cash from cash drawer. Suspect described as 5’7” 150 lbs, wearing blue-red ball cap, white bandana over his face, black sweat shirt and blue jeans. Suspect left in a dark colored Chevy Trail Blazer.

8-24-10, 11:32 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of Valley Ridge. Witness stated that three black males had broken into an apartment and were loading property in a black Malibu with tinted windows.

Officers stopped the Malibu on Valley Avenue near Mecca Avenue and placed the suspects under arrest. The stolen property was recovered.

Residents are urged not to put mail in their mailboxes too early in the day or overnight.

Someone is stealing mail (bill payments that contain personal checks). The checks are then counterfeited and homeless people are used to cash the checks at local banks. The most recent event was an outgoing bill taken from a mailbox on 16 August 2010 after 0630 hrs on Crest Drive. Others have happened in the area of Ridge Road, Mt Brook, and Vestavia.

Possible suspects involved are two thin W/F’s, 5’4”, blonde hair, in their 20’s in a gray, 4-D Explorer (or other SUV). These suspects dropped off a homeless guy to cash a check (check casher was arrested) and may not necessarily be the ones stealing the mail.

On 8-8-10, between 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., seven vehicles were spray painted in the area of Kenilworth, Ridge Road, Crest Lane and Crest Drive. Homewood High School was also spray painted.

Suspects are two white males, late teens or early twenties, in a two door grey or white late 1990’s/early 2000’s Grand Am.

Car Burglary

In the past two weeks there have been several car burglaries occurring at night in the west side of Homewood (Oakmoor, Parkside Court, Venetian Way, Kent Lane, Allen Avenue, and Grove Street). Most of the vehicles have been unlocked. Items taken include wallets, credit cards, gun, I-pod, necklace, camera, purse, CD’s, GPS, brief case and driver’s license.

Do not leave valuables in your vehicle and lock your vehicle.

Citizens have reported seeing a white male in the area checking door handles.

Call the Homewood Police at 911 or 332-6200 if a suspicious person is seen in your neighborhood.

On 8-1-10 at 1:33 a.m. Martin Edwards Collins was arrested for the attempted burglary of a residence in the 3000 block of Roxbury Road and for Burglary in the 1700 block for Kensington Road. On 8-3-10 Homewood Detective signed the following warrants with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Collins:

A third suspect was arrested on July 30, 2010 and charged in the robbery at Piggly Wiggly (3000 Independence Drive, Homewood) that occurred on July 1, 2010. Marcus A. Gurley, employee of Piggly Wiggly was charged with Robbery 1^st degree. Bond is $60,000.

Gurley is 30 years old and has a Birmingham address.

On July 30, 2010 at 10:10 a.m. Donald D. Traywick was arrested for Reckless Endangerment for an incident on July 27, 2010 at 6:20 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Lakeshore Drive in which the victim stated he was jogging with a group of people when Traywick steered his pick- up truck into him striking him on the left hip and forced him off the road.

Victim was not injured.

Traywick was booked into the Homewood city jail and released on $500.00 bond.

Homewood Detective signed a Burglary 1^st warrant with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office on Antonio Rhinehart for the burglary of a residence on July 19, 2010 in the 2800 block of 16^th Place South. Rhinehart had barricaded himself in an apartment on 29^th Court and Homewood Tactical Team entered the apartment and arrested Rhinehart.

Bond is $60,000.

Rhinehart is 30 years old and has a Homewood Address.

Witness saw the suspect, a black male, carrying a T.V., run into an apartment in the 1600 block of 29^th Court South. Homewood Officers located the suspect and he refused to come out of the apartment.

Homewood Tactical Team entered the apartment at 1:30 p.m. and placed the suspect under arrest.

On 7-14-10 Homewood Police Department Detective signed warrants with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on:

Barbara Joan Simmons: Robbery 1^st- $30,000 bond

Thomas Brett Lovell: Robbery 1^st- $30,000 bond

The above charges were the result of a robbery that occurred on 7/11/2010 at Firehouse Subs on Greensprings Highway in Homewood. Homewood Police patrol units stopped the suspect vehicle in the area and apprehended the couple still in possession of the stolen cash, and gun used in the robbery. The investigation showed the robbery spree has been ongoing 2-3 weeks and the couple is suspected in multiple armed robberies in the Birmingham, Vestavia, and Pelham areas. The investigation is ongoing and additional robbery charges are expected.

Barbara Simmons is 27 years old and has a Birmingham address.

Thomas Lovell is 32 years old and has a Birmingham address.

Thomas and Simmons were transferred from the Homewood city jail to the Jefferson County jail on 7-14-10.

A burglary 2nd degree warrant was signed on July 8, 2010 by a Homewood Detective on Ralph Farley for the burglary of a residence in the 300 block of West Glenwood on July 2, 2010. Bond is set at $25,000.

Farley is not in custody at this time. He is 53 years old and last known address is in Gadsden, Al.

6-30-10, 3:45 p.m., Homewood Officer was sent to the area of Ridge Road and Mayfair Road on a suspicious black male. Officer saw the black male cut through a yard to Whitehall Road where the Officer was able to place him under arrest. This person was dressed in a white t-shirt and blue jeans and is believed to be involved in the robbery earlier in the day at Piggly Wiggly on Independence Drive.

Suspect currently in custody at the Homewood city jail.

6-30-10 at 9:48 a.m., Homewood Police received a call that two black males stole a black Mercury Milan at gunpoint from the parking lot at Piggly Wiggly 3000 Independence Drive. Homewood Officer spotted the Mercury Milan on Oxmoor Road. The suspects refused to stop and wrecked into a mailbox on Ridge Road and both suspects ran from the scene. Homewood Officers are in the area looking for the suspects with the assistance of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department k-9 unit.

6-26-10, 12:35 p.m.-6:00 p.m., 200 block of Mansard Drive. Unknown person entered an unlocked apartment and stole a Dell laptop computer.

6-27-10, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. 375 Statefarm Pkwy (Lowes). Tag stolen off of a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am.

Between 6-27-10 7:30 p.m. and 6-28-10 12:25 a.m., 900 block Mansard Drive. Credit card stolen from an unlocked 1997 Chevy Malibu.

6-21-10, between 12:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m., 900 block Mansard Drive. Window broken out and HP computer, printer stolen.

Between 6-18-10 & 6-21-10, 100 block Aspen Circle. Sliding glass forced open. X box 360, movies, clothing, and shoes stolen.

On the night of 6-21-10, five vehicles were broken into at Magnolia Park Apartments on Valley Avenue.

6-22-10, 12:50 p.m., Post Office parking lot on 18^th Street. Black male wearing a multi colored hat, 5’10”, in his 30’s driving a white 4 door car (partial tag #1A42F) punched out the window of a Mitsubishi Lancer and stole a purse.

6-22-10, between 7:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m., 400 block Edgecrest Drive. Front door forced open. 40” Toshiba TV stolen.

Marvin W. Jackson was arrested on 6-18-10 and charged with the burglary of a home in the 600 block of Hambaugh Avenue on 6-16-10 in which a flat screen TV was stolen.

Jackson was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail on 6-19-10 on a $15,000 bond for burglary 3rd.

Jackson is 45 years old and is from Birmingham.

Thanks to the Homewood citizens who called when this burglary was in progress which later lead to the arrest of Jackson.

6-16-10 at 8:27 a.m. Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 600 block of Hambaugh Avenue. Officers discovered a rear door had been forced open. Taken from the residence was a flat screen T.V.

Suspect is a black male 5’10” 170 lbs, bald. Left in a sliver Ford Escape or similar size model SUV.

Homewood Police Department Detectives signed the following warrants on Qydearrius Harrison for the burglary of vehicles at Herzing College, 280 West Valley Avenue on 6-13-10 at 1:00 a.m.

Unlawful breaking and entering of vehicle (two warrants) - $15,000 bond each

Possession of Burglary Tools- $15,000 bond

Harrison is 18 years old. He list a Birmingham address.

Harrison was transferred from the Homewood City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail on 6-15-10.

Also two Unlawful breaking and entering of vehicle petitions and a petition for possession of burglary tools were signed at Jefferson County Juvenile Court on a 17 year old male involved in the same incident.

On 6-9-10 at 6:42 p.m. Homewood Police received a call of a suspicious white SUV (Mitsubishi Montero Sport) in the area of the 400 block of Devon Drive. At 7:17 p.m. Officers responded to the 300 block of Gaineswood Drive where it was reported that 3 black males were attempting to break into a house and left in a white SUV with 2 other black males.

Homewood Patrol Sergeant located the white SUV in the parking lot of Quiznos on 18^th Street. 5 black males were taken into custody for investigation of burglary. They are also suspects in burglaries on Irving Road and Drexel Drive.

A robbery 1^st degree warrant was signed with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office on Remad Lamar Chiles for the Robbery of the Hilton Garden Inn (520 Wildwood Circle North, Homewood Al) that occurred on October 24, 2008 at 12:15 a.m.

Bond amount is $60,000.

Chiles is 22 years old and list a Birmingham address.

Chiles is currently in custody in the Homewood Jail on a bail jumping warrant.

On 5/24/2010 @ 8:15AM Marianna Toral Galicia was reported missing by her Mother. Apparently Marianna left her Homewood residence on the same dat @ 07:15AM.

According to her mother, Marianna is believed to be in the company of Juan Carlos (last name unknown) who is approximatley 28-32 years of age.

Travel Destination and Vehicle description are unknown. Allegedly, Juan Carlos resides in the Pinson, AL area.

5-27-10, 1:50 a.m., 250 Greensprings Hwy, black male entered business and reached into the register and took unknown amount of cash. Suspect described as 6’ 275-300 lbs wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a dark colored ball cap. Suspect left in a gold 4-door vehicle.

On 05/15/2010 at approximately 5:29 PM an unknown B/M walked into the Super 8 Motel (located at 140 Vulcan Road) and robbed the clerk of the businesses money as well as the clerk’s personal property.

The suspect jumped across the counter and took the property by threatening to beat the clerk.

SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: B/M, 6’3” 300+ pounds. Was wearing a black shirt and dark pants and was wearing white sunglasses. The suspect left in a gold SUV, possibly a (2001-2002) 2 Door Ford Explorer. Pictures were taken from the motel security cameras.

On 05/12/2010 at approximately 9:50 p.m. a robbery occurred in the 400 block of Edgecrest Dr. and a vehicle description was given out to patrol. At approximately 10:25 p.m. Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the robbery suspect vehicle. Patrol attempted to stop the vehicle however the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. A pursuit continued until the vehicle wrecked at 11^th Street North and 13^th Ave. North. The two occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and officers were able to apprehend the driver of the car, Sylvester Lanard Nixon. The vehicle the suspect was driving was a stolen car out of Tarrant, Al. Also located in the car was property that belonged to the robbery victim on Edgecrest. The suspect was arrested for receiving stolen property 1^st, attempting to elude and reckless endangerment. He was also held as a suspect in the robbery.

On 05/14/2010 Detectives of the Homewood Police Dept. were able to obtain warrants for RSP 1^st degree and set the bond at $30,000. Robbery 1^st charges are pending.

5-10-10, 11:40 p.m., 208 Greensprings Hwy. Victim said he was approached by two males who had their faces covered and armed with a long barreled weapon. Victim drove off and one of the suspects kicked out the driver’s side window of the victim’s vehicle.

Warn the Public - Potential fraud issues related to the current oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico

In anticipation of fraudulent activity associated with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the National Center for Disaster Fraud has set up a tip line to accept information from the public. The National Center for Disaster Fraud is comprised of over 20 federal agencies and is staffed by live operators 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tips should be reported to 866-720-5721 or via e-mail disaster@leo.gov.

Fraud can take many forms, such as charitable causes, fraudulent services offered pertaining to the oil spill, false incurance claims or potential investment schemes. These solicitations or offers can cover a wide range of local, state and federal offenses. So warn the public and encourage them to call the tip line if fraudulent activity is suspected.

There has been arrest in the Nadia Kersh missing person case. Homewood Police charged Joacquas Haywood with the murder of Nadia Kersh. Haywood turned himself into the Homewood Police Department last night. He is currently being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.

On May 3, 2010, 11:28 a.m. at 809 Greensprings Hwy, (Jefferson County Satellite Court House), Homewood Alabama a Security Guard for Birmingham Armored Car Services was robbed by 3 black males dressed in black and armed with hand guns. The suspects approached the Security Guard as he was walking out of the Satellite Office. The Security Guard’s gun was taken during the robbery.

Mr. Wallace Eugene Fant, Jr. was last seen at Brookwood Hospital in Homewood on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010. It is believed he took a Yellow Cab from Brookwood Hospital on that date at approximately 7:40 pm and, according to cab records, was dropped off in the Gardendale area that night. He was last seen wearing khaki shorts or blue jean shorts, white shirt and white tennis shoes. He has a tattoo of an eagle on his upper left shoulder. Cops On Top of Wal-Mart

The Homewood Police Department will be on the roof of Wal-Mart, 240 Lakeshore Parkway in Wildwood, for the annual Cops on Top fund-raiser for Special Olympics. The event begins on Friday morning at 6:00 AM, April 23^rd, and runs through Saturday afternoon. Uniformed officers will be on top of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in an effort to raise money for Special Olympics.

This is part of a statewide campaign by the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

4-19-10, 4:00 p.m., 200 block Malaga Avenue. Black male took a lawn mower from a garage and was seen pushing the lawn mower down the driveway. When the owner of the lawn mower shouted at the suspect the suspect ran and got into a white 2000 Mercury Villager. Suspect described as 6’ tall, 175 lbs wearing long pants and dark long sleeve hoodie.

Between 4-19-10 8:00 p.m. & 4-20-10, 9:00 a.m., 400 block Raleigh Avenue. 2007 Ford Fusion broken into. Garmin GPS, wallet and tools taken.

Warrants were signed on the following individuals for car burglaries committed on the night of 4-12-10 on North Wildwood Circle. Each individual was charged with 6 counts of unlawful breaking and entering into vehicles and 1 count of Possession of burglary tools. Total bond on each is $120,000.

Homewood Detectives signed warrants with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office on Tyree Walker for the incident on 4-13-10 on Vulcan Road in which Tyree rammed a Homewood Police car injuring a Homewood Officer in an attempt to get away after being stopped on a traffic stop. There had been a lookout issued for the vehicle he was driving for being involved in a robbery.

Walker was charged with the following:

Attempted murder on a Police officer

Certain person forbidden to possess a pistol

Criminal Mischief 1^st

Felony attempting to elude

Resisting arrest

There is a no bond issued on the attempted murder.

Tyree also had an outstanding warrant for Robbery 1^st with the Birmingham Police Department.

On 4/13/2010 at 3:15 pm, a ten year old female walking home from school was approached by a white male in the Edgewood area (Roseland and E. Glenwood). The white male asked her questions, and made inappropriate comments of a sexual nature. The child felt uncomfortable and ran away. The child’s father reported the incident to HPD.

Suspect described as white male dressed in hospital scrubs driving a white four door vehicle.

There was a similar incident reported in the fall of 2009 also in the Edgewood area regarding a white male taking photographs of children walking home from school. The vehicle was a dark colored SUV. No further information was available.

On 4/14/2010, the school administrators at Edgewood, Shades Cahaba, Hall Kent, and Our Lady of Sorrows School were passed on the above information. The Homewood Board of Education was also notified.

Patrol and Special Operations have been notified in order to provide increased patrol in the neighborhoods after school when the children are walking home.

On April 17^th from 11:00 11:00-3:00 & 4:00-8:00 Homewood , Birmingham and Trussville Police officers will be at the Red Robin Restaurant located at 5029 Pinnacle Square in Trussville for a Tip-A-Cop to raise money for Special Olympics Alabama. Officers will be there in uniform serving customers and taking donations for Special Olympics. We will have police displays set up in the parking lot and selling Torch run shirts. It should be a fun time for all and a chance to meet officers and eat great food. Please make an effort to come out and eat great food and get to know your police officers.

4-12-10, 8:00 p.m., Cobb Street & Oxmoor Road , Black male arrested during a traffic stop for possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawfully carrying a pistol. The pistol was reported stolen out of Birmingham. Suspect also charged with tampering with evidence when he was observed by the arresting officer eating and swallowing marijuana to avoid arrest.

4-12-10, 1:15 a.m., 520 Wildwood North Circle. While on patrol Homewood Patrol Sergeant observed two black males running through the parking of Town Place Suites. Officers located a total of 3 suspects in the area. Officers discovered six vehicles had been broken into. Officers found stolen items from the vehicles in the suspect’s vehicle. All three suspects arrested and charged with unlawful breaking and entering of vehicle, possession of burglary tools and theft of property.

Warrants were signed by Homewood Detectives on Brandon Wells and Maurice Thompson for the robbery that occurred on 4-6-10 at 11:23 p.m. in the parking lot of 430 Greensprings hwy in which one the suspects was armed with a handgun and wore a Halloween mask.

Wells is 20 years old and is from Birmingham.

Maurice Thompson

Possession of Marijuana- $5000.00 bond

Thompson is 18 years and is from Birmingham

Wells and Thompson were both transferred from the Homewood city jail to the Jefferson County jail on 4-8-10.

4-6-10, 11:23 p.m., parking lot Greensprings Hwy. Victim said he was robbed by a black male armed with a handgun and wearing a Halloween mask. Suspect jumped into the front seat of a gray Buick Lesabre 4 door. A Homewood Officer spotted the Buick Lesabre and two black males were placed under arrest. A handgun and Halloween mask recovered from the Buick.

Burglary

4-7-10, 9:00 a.m.-11:10 a.m., 400 block of Lakewood Drive. Computer and T.V. taken from residence. Unknown how entry was made.

4-8-10, 11:30 p.m., 3030 Montgomery Hwy. Officers responded to a burglary alarm and found the front door had been forcibly pried open. Taken were cartons of cigarettes. Suspect is a black male wearing a hooded camouflage jacket and white gloves.

Interstate 65 bidge work

On Monday, March 29th, weather conditions permitting, between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm, Alabama Department of Transportation will begin repairs to the bridge deck located on Interstate 65 northbound at Raleigh Avenue (near milepost 255.7) in Homewood. This work will require the outside (right) travel lane and shoulder to be closed in the area of the repairs. A steel plate will be placed to cover the repairs while the concrete cures and achieves the required strength. This work will continue each day, weather permitting, through April 1st. The work is being done during daylight hours when temperatures are warmer (cold temperatures at night will not allow the concrete to be properly cured). In the event the repairs are not completed by Thursday, April 1st, the work will resume during the same times on the following week. Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.

Between 3-12-10 and 3-14-10, 50 Bagby Drive. Entry made by throwing a brick through a glass door. Taken was a desktop computer.

There have been some recent car burglaries near the jogging trail on Lakeshore Drive. Do not leave valuables (purses, wallets, phones, and electronics) visible in your vehicle. Secure all valuables in your vehicle in the trunk or take them with you. Report suspicious persons to the Homewood Police by calling 911.

Homewood hypnotherapist Stanley Haluska was convicted of sexual abuse (child less than twelve years old) in Jefferson County Court last week. The conviction was the result of allegations from eight and twelve year old boys who being treated by Haluska and stayed overnight in Haluska’s home in Homewood in 2008.

Sentencing will in be six weeks.

3-6-10, 01:15 a.m., 900 block of Oak Grove. Victim said he was approached by two black males wearing hoods, mask, and dark clothing and armed with handguns. Taken from victim was a revolver, cash, Sony camera and drivers license.

Both suspects described as 5’10” 200 lbs. Suspects left in a black van.

On 3-2-10 Homewood Detective signed burglary warrants($15,000 Bond) on Lionel Donzeal Bates and Jameson Robert Finley for the burglary of a residence in the 400 block of Devon Drive on 01-26-10. Suspects were captured by Alabaster Police Department on 02-11-10 for several burglaries in their jurisdiction.

Both are in custody at the Shelby County Jail.

On 3-1-10 a Homewood Detective signed seventeen juvenile petitions at Family Court for Graffiti in Homewood on 3 juveniles. It was determined that juvenile #1 and juvenile #2 were responsible for the graffiti throughout the downtown area of Homewood. Juvenile #1 and #2 were also responsible for graffiti at Homewood High School along with juvenile #3. Juvenile #1 and juvenile #2 also identified several locations that were not reported by the owners of the identified businesses.

2-20-10, 11:21 a.m., Wal Mart, 209 lakeshore Pkwy. 3 black males in a 2006 Nissan Altima pulled next to victim’s vehicle, jumped out of the Altima, broke the passenger side window of the victim’s vehicle and took a bank deposit bag.

2-24-10, 2:47 p.m., 1000 block of Honeylocust Lane. Officers responded to a call of a front door that had been forced open. Nothing was found missing from residence. Person at the scene found to have a warrant with Irondale Police Department and was placed under arrest.

0n 2-11-10, at 8:15 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to the 300 block of Clermont Road on a call of a suspicious person from a citizen. A Homewood Officer observed Edwyn J. Daniels standing on a fence looking into a back yard.

When the Officer approached Daniels ran off on foot. After a foot chase Daniels was apprehended and found in possession of burglary tools. Daniels was arrested for possession of burglary tools and failure to comply with a lawful order.

Warrants issued by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office:

Possession of Burglary Tools: $15,000 bond

Failure to comply with a lawful order: $300.00 bond

Daniels is 20 years and lists a Hoover address.

Daniels has a previous arrest in April of 2009 for burglary of homes in the Huntington Glen Drive area of Homewood.

0n January 15, 2010 at 11:15 a.m., Homewood Police Officers responded to two black males attempting to kick down the door to an apartment while the residences were inside in the 1000 block of Rue Mason.

Upon arrival Homewood Police Officers arrested Darius Carl Jackson and Aaron Thomas ll as they were attempting to flee the scene on foot.

facility.

Between 1-11-10 & 1-12-10, 30 Statefarm Parkway, someone made entry by breaking the door handle to a 2001 Chevrolet and took a Garmin GPS, hunting bow and clothes.

1-12-10, 10:15 a.m., 200 block of Greensprings Hwy, black male arrested during a traffic stop for possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Between 1-11-10 & 1-12-10, 400 block of Popular Place. Laptop, shoes and a couch taken from an apartment.

1-12-10, I-65 & lakeshore Drive, Victim said he left his vehicle on side of the road with a flat tire and when he returned he discovered someone had broke out a window and took his car stereo.

Between 1-12-10 & 1-13-10, 116 Distribution Drive, someone broke out the front glass door. Taken were checks and cash.

1-10-10, 1:10 a.m., 211 West Valley Avenue, black male arrested for public intoxication and giving false information to a police officer.

1-10-10, 10:25 a.m., Lakeshore & I-65, black male arrested for possession of marijuana and pistol without a permit during a traffic stop.

Between 1-3-10 & 1-10-10, 1700 block of Mayfair drive, unknown person broke out the glass out of the back door of a residence. Nothing reported missing at this time.

1-11-10, between 9:30 a.m. & 3:30 p.m., 800 block of Saulter Road, front door open by force. Taken was a computer and prescription drugs.

1-11-10, between 3:00 p.m. & 4:10 p.m., Samford University, vehicle broken into. GPS, IPod, cell phone, wallet and school book taken.

1-12-10, 4:06 a.m., 400 Greensprings Hwy, black male arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

1-2-09, 4:00 a.m., 1000 block of Rue Mason, 3 black males entered an apartment armed with a handgun. One of the suspects punched the resident in the head with his fist. Suspects left without taking anything.

Between 12-31-09 and 1-2-10, 350 Statefarm Pkwy, someone entered through a back door by force. Taken was cash from a cash drawer.

Between 21-31-09 and 1-2-10, 114 Wildwood Pkwy, back door had been pried open. Cash taken from cash drawer.

1-2-10, 11:09 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Columbiana Road, walking trail. Driver side door had been broken out. Taken was a purse.

1-4-10, 9:50 a.m., West Valley & Greensprings Hwy. two middle aged black males dressed in black in a black 4 door car approached the victim’s car and took a bank deposit bag from the victim. Suspects left going West on West Valley Avenue.

1-5-10, 12:30 a.m. - 12:42 a.m., Harbor Freight, 136 Greensprings Hwy. Officers responded to a burglary alarm and found the back loading door open. It appears suspect may have used a forklift that was onsite to try and pry door open. Nothing missing from business.

On 12-30-09, at 9:15 p.m., Microtel, 251 Summit Parkway, two black males entered and pointed a revolver at the front desk clerk and took money from the register. Suspects left in a red pick up truck. Suspects described as 18-23 years old, 5'8",190 lbs, wearing dark hooded sweat shirts, white t-shirts and baggy dark colored pants.

On 12-30-09, at 10:30 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a call of gunshots at 250 Robert Jemison Road, Knoll Crest Apartments. Upon arrival Officers found 36 year old Isaias Juarez Garcia inside an apartment who had been fatally shot. Several people were brought in for questioning and later released.

No suspects are in custody at this time. This crime remains under investigation.

12-26-09, 8:00 p.m. and 12-27-09, 5:45 p.m., 500 block of Cliff Place, GPS and money taken form a Jeep Grand Cherokee. No sign of forced entry.

12-22-09 6:00 p.m. and 12-23-09, 7:10 a.m., 100 block of Montgomery Highway, driver side window broken out on a Chevrolet pick- up. Taken were an IPOD and Garmin GPS.

12-24-09, 1:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., 1600 block of Roseland, ten speed bicycle with Christmas lights was taken from front yard.

12-27-09, 1:15 a.m., 18th Street and Oxmoor Road, white female arrested during a traffic stop for possession for unlawful possession of controlled substance.

12-16-09, 10:30 a.m., Homewood Officers assisted Hoover Police Department in the apprehension and arrest of the persons who robbed the Wendy’s in Hoover on Lorna Road and led Officers on a pursuit that ended in Birmingham.

12-12-09, 3:00 p.m., Belk’s, Brookwood Village, white female charged with robbery after she shoplifted clothing and fought with Belk security when being placed under arrest.

12-13-09, 3:00 a.m., Jason’s Deli, Brookwood Village, Officers responded to an alarm and found a side glass door had been broken out. Register were pulled off the counter. Nothing appeared to have been taken.

12-4-09, 1:15 p.m., Oxmoor Blvd, two white females were placed under arrest during a traffic stop for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (crack pipes) and one of the females was also charged with giving false information for giving a wrong name to a Police Officer.

12-4-09, 3:15 p.m., K-mart, 230 Greensprings Hwy, white male arrested for shoplifting two University Of Alabama jackets, one Alabama sweat shirt and sweat pants.

12-5-09, 6:30 a.m., IHOP, 221 Statefarm Parkway, white female was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

12-5-09, 9:37 p.m., Lakeshore Drive & University Park Drive, Officer observed a vehicle driving west bound in the east bound lanes. Officer stopped the vehicle and the white male driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Burglary

12-6-09, 10:40 p.m., Radio Shack 220 Statefarm Pkwy, Officers responded to a burglary alarm and found the front glass had been out broken with a brick. Taken were laptop computers and Apple I-Pods.

11-30-09, 10:05 a.m., two black males went into K & G Menswear (243 Lakeshore Parkway), grabbed arm loads of clothing worth $966.79 and ran out the store and left in a tan 1984 Cadillac. A Homewood Patrol Officer spotted the Cadillac on Lakeshore Drive. Cadillac was stopped and the occupants arrested for theft of property.

12-1-09, 11:05 a.m., 411 Greensprings Hwy, a Homewood Officer working Proactive Patrol was patrolling the Publix parking lot when he observed two Publix employees who were attempting to stop a white male who had just shoplifted $177.00 worth of merchandise. The shoplifter was attempting to walk away from the Publix employees. The shoplifter stopped when he saw the Homewood Officer and he was placed under arrest.

Between 11-29-09, 1:00 a.m. and 12-01-09, 6:30 p.m., 200 block of Devon Drive, someone forced open a door of a residence. Taken were 3 T.V.’s.

11-25-09, 8:45 a.m., Motel 6, 151 Vulcan Road. Black male,5’5” 140 lbs, 19-26 years old wearing a black jacket pointed a handgun at the front desk clerk and took money from the cash drawer.

Stolen vehicle

Between 11-26-09, 11:00 p.m. and 11-27-09, 3:00 a.m., 100 block of Robert Jemison Road, a grey 1987 Chevrolet Caprice, was stolen.

Burglary

11-27-09, between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., Belk’s parking lot, Brookwood Mall. 2007 Volvo was entered through an unlocked door. Taken was an I-pod, and purse. Purse later found in a trash can inside Brookwood Mall.

During the night of 11-27-09 someone entered an unlocked Lexus in the 200 block of Knoll Crest Drive and took checks and money.

Drug arrest

11-29-09, 3:05 a.m., Valley Avenue at Palisades Drive, two white females were arrested during a traffic stop for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. One of the females was also charged with giving false information for lying about her identity.

Homewood Police Officers arrested a total of 16 persons over the Thanksgiving weekend (11-26-09 to 11-29-09) for offenses such as DUI, illegal drugs, failure to appear, and theft of property.

Between 11-18-09, 9:00 p.m. and 11-19-09, 9:00 a.m., 275 Oxmoor Road, door was forced open to a hotel room. Taken was a 19” T.V., a mirror off the wall and a bed comforter.

11-19-09, 7:30 p.m., 1000 block of Thornwood Drive, entry made by forcing open kitchen window. Taken was assorted jewelry, several watches, Dell computer, 9mm pistol and money.

Robbery

11-19-09, 6:40 p.m., Holiday Inn, 492 Wildwood Circle, black male 5’6” 150 lbs, in his 20’s wearing a dark brown hoodie, baggy blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a multi colored baseball cap pointed a revolver at the front desk clerk and took money from the cash drawer.

Suspect left in a gold 4 door Acura.

11-14-09, 4:15 a.m., 300 block of Huntington Parc, Officers responded to a call of a suspicious person and located a white male behind a residence. The male was intoxicated and could not explain to the officers where he was. When Officers attempted to place him under arrest he resisted and after a struggle the male was placed under arrest. He was charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest, trespassing and refusal to comply.

11-14-09, 9:45 a.m., I-65 @ Oxmoor Road, black female arrested during a traffic stop for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

11-15-09, 10:20 a.m., Valley Avenue @ Greensprings Highway, white male arrested during traffic stop for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

11-10-09, 1400 block of Berry Road, resident came home to find a white male coming from the back of her residence. Resident found her back door had been forced open. White male left in a white Honda Accord with front end damage. Homewood Patrol Officer stopped the Honda at Berry Road and Columbiana. White male and white female were arrested and charged with burglary.

Between 11-11-09, 6:00 p.m. and 11-12-09, 6:20 a.m., 300 block of Columbiana Road, rock was thrown through front door. Taken was cash and computer printer.

11-12-09, 6:15 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., 300 block of Gainswood Road, entry made through unlocked second story window. 32’ T.V., camera, diamond ear ring, T.V. remote taken

At 9:30 a.m. a white work van with lettering on it was seen in the driveway.

Vehicle refused to stop and lead Officers on a pursuit from Broadway to Columbiana Road to Lakeshore to I-65 North where the suspects stopped just past Oxmoor Road entrance ramp. White male driver and passenger both placed under arrest. Illegal drugs found in vehicle. Both charged with Unlawful possession of controlled substance, reckless endangerment, attempting to elude and resisting arrest.

11-3-09, 6:55 p.m., 9 Aspen Cove, victim said he was walking when a smokey grey 4 door Cadillac Deville stopped in front of him and two black males got out of the vehicle. Both had black pistols. Suspects took cash from the victim and left the area.

Suspect #1: 5’11” wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

Suspect #2: 6’2” brown and red outfit and a black bandana over his face.

11-3-09, 7:45 a.m., 800 block of Acton Avenue, black male wearing a black jacket rang the door bell to a residence and then went around to the back door and attempted to force the door open using a crow bar. Suspect left in silver Ford Escape. Suspect did not make entry into the residence.

11-3-09, 7:40 a.m-8:40 a.m., in the 1100 block of Columbian Road, unknown person entered a residence by forcing open the rear door. Taken was a DVD player, and jewelry.

Nadia Kersh Candlelight Ceremony

On Tuesday, November 3rd, there will be a Candlelight Ceremony for Nadia Kersh in observance of the one year anniversary of her disappearance. The Ceremony will be held at the SOHO Plaza in front of Homewood City Hall with the Ceremony starting at 7:00 PM. The public is invited to attend.

The Homewood Police Department believes that there are persons in the community that have information on the disappearance of Nadia Kersh. Between 5:30 PM on October 30th and 8:00 AM October 31st. Entry made through unlocked door. Items taken include batteries, engine scanner, cash register, air compressor and Chevrolet Siverado pick-up.

Business Burglary-1900 block of 28th Ave South

At approximately 10:35 PM on October 30th. Front window broken out and cell phones taken.

Business Burglary- 200 block of State Farm Parkway

At approximately 11:30 PM. Front window broken out and cell phones taken.

The last two burglaries listed invloved the "smash and grab" method of break-in. The alarms goes off, but the burglar grabs the closest merchandise to the entry point and is gone before the police arrive. Employees should be aware of suspicious persons in the parking lot of businesses at closing. 10-25-09, between 11:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., 400 block of Honey Locust Lane, front door was forced open to an apartment. Taken were 2 T.V.’s, cash and coins.

10-26-09, 1900 28^th Avenue South, front glass door was broken out with a rock, taken were several eye glass frames.

10-27-09, 400 block Honey Locust Lane, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. 42” T.V., X-Box, shotgun and cash were taken.

10-27-09, between 7:30 a.m. and 7:15 p.m., in the 400 block of Windsor Drive, a window was broken out of a back door to make entry. Taken was jewelry.

10-25-09, 10:02 p.m., in the 10 block of Statefarm Parkway, a white female was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

10-23-09, between 11:00 a.m. and 4:50 p.m., in the 700 block of Raleigh Avenue, someone forced open the door to an apartment and took a 32” T.V.

Robbery

10-23-09, 10:00 p.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Court, Hispanic male said he was approached by two black males who pointed a silver gun at him and took money from his wallet. Victim said as the suspects left they started shooting at him when he reached for his phone. Victim said he ran into his apartment, got his gun, and fired his gun at the suspects. No reported injuries.

10-23-09, 2:30 p.m., parking lot, Wachovia Bank, 325 West Valley Avenue, victim said she was approached by a male, unknown race, who pointed a gun at her head and demanded the deposit bag she was carrying. Suspect was wearing brown coveralls and a black ski mask. Suspect left in a tan or beige small car.

10-21-09, between 10:25 a.m. and 10:35 a.m., in the 200 block of Ridge Road, suspect entered a residence by forcing open a back door. Taken was assorted jewelry.

Suspect is described as a male, unknown race, 5’10” 225 lbs, wearing a green hooded jacket and blue jeans.

10-21-09, between 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., in the 1500 block of Grove Place, someone entered through a back of a residence by force. Taken were camera, I-pod, coins and jewelry.

Robbery

10-21-09, 10:07 p.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Valley, two Hispanic males were robbed at gunpoint by three black males. One of the victims was struck in the head with a gun.

Suspects were dressed in black pants and black jackets with hoods.

10-21-09, 10:20 p.m., in the 900 block of Valley Ridge Drive, Hispanic male stated that he was approached by three black males armed with pistols. Victim said he drove away in his pick- up truck and one of the suspects fired 4 shots at him. One of the shots went through the tailgate and struck the victim in the upper right arm.

Suspects described as all wearing dark pants and black hooded sweat shirts. Two were medium and one large in size.

10-15-09, at 9:51 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary alarm in the 400 block of Raleigh Avenue. Officers found that the back door had been forced open. Nothing appeared to be missing from residence.

On 10-17-09, at around midnight, in the 1400 block of Clairmont Drive, unknown person broke the driver’s side window of a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe and stole a GPS.

On 10-17-09, between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., in the parking lot of Sam’s Club on Lakeshore parkway, unknown person broke the front passenger side window of 2000 Chevrolet van. No items missing from van.

On 10-17-09, between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Court, someone kicked open the front door of an apartment. Taken were a 37” T.V., sound system, Wii game system, Playstation and DVD’s.

Attempted Robbery

10-16-09 at 9:44 p.m., pizza delivery person said he was attempting to deliver a pizza in the 2500 block of Central Avenue when he was approached by a black male who pointed a small pistol at him. Victim ran to his car and left the area.

Suspect described as a black male, 5’7” 150 lbs, 19-24 years old, wearing a white scarf or towel around his face.

Between 10-11-09, 3:00 p.m. and 10-12-09, 10:30 p.m., in the 1800 block of lakeridge Road, someone entered an unlocked Acura and took a Phillips DVD player.

On 10-12-09, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., in the 800 block of Wingate Circle, side window was broken with a rock. Taken from the residence were 2 T.V.’s, lap top computer, I-pod and assorted jewelry. A black male was observed ringing the door bell around 9:30 a.m. He was described as 6’, 150 lbs, around 20 years of age wearing a white t-shirt. He left in a mid size tan vehicle with a small rear spoiler driven by another unknown person.

On 10-12-09, between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Circle, victim stated that unknown person entered her apartment through an unlocked sliding glass door and took her lap top computer, amplifier and speakers.

On 10-1-09, between 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., victim said someone took his 20” Tony Hawk blue mountain bike from the carport of his residence in the 1600 block of Beckham Drive.

On 9-26-09, at 2:34 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary alarm in the 1700 block of Valley Avenue. Officers saw two black males running from the rear door of an apartment where the alarm was coming from. After a foot chase the two suspects were placed under arrest for burglary.

On 9-25-09, between 10:30 a.m. and 11:16 a.m., unknown person entered a 2008 Porsche Cayenne by breaking a window and took a purse at Homewood Park on Oxmoor Road.

Between 9-25-09, 5:30 p.m. and 9-26-09, 6:30 a.m., in the 200 block of Snow Drive someone broke into a service truck and took assorted tools.

On 9-26-09, at 3:00 p.m., in the 900 block of Delcris Drive, a white male driving a tan colored pickup truck with junk in the back went into the victims basement and took his Honda self propelled lawn mower.

On 9-12-09 at 06:40 a.m., in the 110 block of Thornwood Drive, victim said he was approached by two black males who demanded money from the victim. Suspects left on foot.

On 9-13-09 at 7:40 p.m., in the parking deck at Brookwood Village, victim said she was approached by two black males who pointed at gun at her and took the victim’s purse.

Suspect #1- 5’6” 140 lbs, dark complexion, in his 20’s, wearing black shirt, black pants, and short dread locks.

Suspect #2- 6’, 180 lbs, dark complexion, in his 20’s, wearing dark clothing, black and whites Nikes and a shaved head.

Suspect vehicle- 4 door gray Chevrolet Caprice tinted windows.

Warrants were signed by Homewood Detectives on Darius Williams on 8-17-09 for the robbery of three persons on 8-16-09 at 11:55 p.m. in the 2900 block of Crescent Avenue in Homewood.

3 robbery warrants, $60,000 bond on each warrant.

Williams is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail.

On 8-17-9, at 00:18 a.m., a robbery in progress was called in by victims in the 2900 block of Crescent Avenue. Suspect described as a black male that was armed with a handgun and left in a red Buick Regal. Homewood Officers located the vehicle and the suspect refused to stop and lead Officers on a pursuit to Lomb and McMillan in Birmingham where the suspect wrecked. After a foot chase the suspect was placed under arrest.

On 8-1-09, at 01:15 a.m., in the 1100 block of Thornwood Drive, Homewood Officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress call. Upon arrival Officers arrested a black male who was an ex-boyfriend of the victim.

Between 7-31-09, 7:00 p.m. and 8-1-09, 00:20 a.m., in the 800 block of College Avenue, victim said that someone stole his 14 foot utility trailer and John Deer 64 inch stand mower.

On 8-1-09, 9:00 p.m. and 8-2-09, 10:20 a.m., in the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road, victim said someone entered her unlocked car and took her McDonald’s paycheck from the glove box.

On 8-2-09, between 00:10 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., in the 100 block of Olympia Drive, someone broke the driver’s window of a 1999 Oldsmobile and took a Sony sub woofer. Also taken was the tag off the car, 1H2168G.

On 7-30-09 at 1205 p.m., in the 200 block of Oxmoor Road, victim said that someone reached into the open sunroof of her vehicle and took her purse. Suspect is a black male 6’ 235 pounds in his 30’s who left in a red over tan Ford F150 pickup truck with an Alabama tag on the front bumper.

On 7-29-09 between 1030 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., in the 300 block of Columbiana Road, someone entered an apartment by forcing open the front door. Taken was a Toshiba laptop computer.

Robbery

On 7-30-09 at 10:10 p.m., in the 400 block of Elder oaks Way, victim said he was approached by two black males, one armed with a black handgun. They demanded his money and left in a green Yukon Denali.

Victim described suspect #1 as wearing a black shirt and may have had braids in his hair. Suspect #2 was wearing a white shirt.

On 7-29-09 between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., in the 50 block of Aspen Cove, someone forced open the front door and took a Dell laptop computer.

On 7-29-09 between 4:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Cove, someone forced open the front door. Taken was a Playstation 2, Nintendo game cube, box of Tilapia fillets, box of chicken legs and a box of chicken fillets.

Victim stated that between 7-21-09 and 7-28-09, in the 1500 block of Roseland Drive, someone took a Sony laptop computer from his unlocked vehicle.

On 7-29-09, at 8:00 p.m., Homewood Task Force Officers attempted to stop a 1989 Buick for a traffic violation. Driver refused to stop and traveled north on I-65. The passenger in the vehicle began throwing what appeared to be marijuana and cocaine out the window. The vehicle exited at 16^th Street in Birmingham. Vehicle stopped and after a foot chase the passenger was placed under arrest and was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics and had warrants out for his arrest for robbery and attempted murder.

On 7-28-09 at 1:45 p.m., in the parking lot of Salvation Army, 76 Greensprings Highway, victim stated she had stopped in the parking lot of the Salvation Army to make a phone call when she was approached by a black male in his 20’s wearing a black t-shirt. Victim said the suspect jumped in her car and grabbed her wallet. Victim tried to grab her wallet and the suspect struck her in the head with his fist and dragged her out the car.

Suspect left in a grey Volvo station wagon driven by a black male.

On 7-23-09 at 00:45 a.m., at Lakeshore Parkway at I-65, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was stopped for a switched tag. Upon investigation, the Impala was found to be stolen out of Birmingham. Driver arrested for receiving stolen property.

On 7-23-09 at 5:00 p.m., in the 2700 block of 18^th Street, A Sirius radio was taken from a BMW with the top down. Witness said she saw 3 black males in their 20’s take the radio and run off.

On 7-23-09 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:05 p.m., in parking lot of one Metro Plex Drive, someone threw a brick through the window of a 1992 Olds Cutlass and took a Taurus hand gun.

On 7-24-09 at 1:40 a.m., at Greensprings Highway and Valley Avenue, Officers stopped a 2001 Ford Expedition that was reported stolen. Driver was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and a crack pipe. Driver placed under arrest.

Witness who was jogging in the area said he saw a tan SUV parked on the street and a black female between 18-20 years old walking toward the SUV as he jogged by the incident location. The SUV was last seen on Saulter Road going towards Broadway Street.

Victim states that on 7-4-09, at 3:30 p.m. he parked his 1993 black and blue GMC Sierra pick- up truck, tag #1A29P19, in the 1300 block of Columbiana Road when the battery died. When he returned at 8:30 p.m., the truck was not there.

Victim stated on 7-3-09 at 1:00 p.m. he discovered that someone had taken his Play Station 3, games, Toshiba Laptop, Alabama class ring and U.S. currency. Victim lives in the 10 block of Aspen Cove.

On 6-29-09 at 1:30 p.m., in the 2700 block of BM Montgomery Street, someone broke the passenger side window of a 2003 Kia and stole a Magellan GPS.

On 6-29-09, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., in the 200 block of Kent Lane, Someone forced open the rear door and took a Nintendo Wii and Wii games.

On 6-30-09 at 11:30 p.m., in the 400 block of Wildforest Drive, victim said he saw two white males inside his vehicle. Victim approached the suspects and the suspects ran off on foot. Victim gave chase and when he caught one of the suspects, two additional males arrived and began to hit and kick the victim.

Suspects left the area in a Chrysler Sebring. A Homewood Patrol Officer spotted the car on Old Montgomery Highway. The Officer stopped the car and the five white males in the car were placed under arrest.

Between 6-29-09, 6:00 p.m. and 6-30-09, 4:30 a.m., in the 400 block of Wildforest Drive, a Garmin GPS was taken from a 2004 Toyota. No sign of forced entry to vehicle.

18^Th Street will be closed off at Oxmoor Road and 28^th Avenue; 29^th Avenue will be closed off at 19^th Street for the July 4^th celebration.

There will be rides for the kids and food for sale.

On 6-26-09, between 3:00 a.m. and 8:35 a.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Court, someone broke out the rear passenger side window of a 2000 Kia Sephia and took a laptop computer, JVC CD player and a MP3 player.

Between 6-25-09, 4:30 p.m. and 6-26-09, 7:30 a.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Cove, someone entered an unlocked 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix and took 10 Loritab Pills.

On 6-26-09 between 7:30 a.m. and 1:40 p.m., in the 300 block of Edgeview Avenue, someone pried open the rear door of a residence and took a Toshiba T.V., and several pieces of jewelry.

On 6-27-09 at 1:00 a.m., in the 300 block of Olympia Drive, a Hispanic male stated he was approached by two black males in the parking lot who took his wallet and gym bag by gun point.

Victim described the suspects #1 as tall and fat, 28-32 years old, wearing black shirt and jean shorts. Suspect #2, Short and skinny, wearing a black shirt, black hat and jean shorts.

Suspects left in a silver or tan, Chrysler or Ford, with a rounded body.

Burglary

Between 6-19-09, 6:30 p.m. and 6-20-09, 7:34 a.m., in the 500 block of Scott Street, someone threw a rock though the front door of a business and took money from the register.

Robbery

On 6-20-09 at 10:50 p.m., in the 30 block of Aspen Circle, a Hispanic male said he was approached by a black male who put a handgun to the back of his head and took his wallet and cell phone. Victim said the suspect punched him the face and left in a sliver or champaign colored four door Ford car, possibly a Taurus.

Victim described the suspect as 5’7” 155 lbs, medium complexion, wearing a white t-shirt and black pants.

BURGLARY

On 6-17-09 between 1:35 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., in the 1800 block of Oxmoor Road, Victim came home and found the front door had been kicked in. A Sony computer laptop was taken.

On 6-17-09 between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., in the 200 block of Aspen Cove, Vitim came home and found the front door had been kicked in. A 42” LG T.V. was stolen.

On 6-18-09 between 2:00 a.m. and 2:10 a.m., in the 400 block of Windsor Drive, victim observed someone take a Trek blue 220 children’s bike from a storage shed.

On June 10th, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., Homewood Police attempted to stop a Maroon Ford Taurus for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and struck a Homewood Police car leading Officers on a pursuit to Shannon Road where the Taurus drove off into the woods at Shades Creek Industrial Park. A white female was placed into custody at the scene. A white male wearing a dark shirt and a pony tail ran from the scene along with a white female.They have not been located at this time.

Marianne Leigh Painter Goodwin, the owner of the maroon Ford Taurus that was involved in the Police Pursuit in Homewood on June 10, 2009 is a person of interest in the case.

Goodwin is a white female, 41 years old, 5’6”, 160 lbs.

Robbery

On 6-6-09 at 9:00 p.m., a Hispanic male was arrested at Wal Mart, 209 Lakeshore Parkway for robbery for exiting the store without paying for a music CD when he resisted when being arrested by Wal Mart security and Homewood Police.

On 6-7-09, at 7:00 p.m., at the night deposit box at Compass Bank, 501 Shades Creek Parkway, victim stated he was approached by a black male who hit the victim and grabbed his deposit bags. Victim punched the suspect in the face. The suspect then hit the victim in the head with a blunt object. Suspect left in a silver or white 4 door Hyundai Elantra driven by another black male.

Victim described the suspects as both being in their 20’s and both wearing white shirts and one had on khaki pants.

Stolen Bench

Between 6-7-09, 8:00 p.m. and 6-9-09, 6:15 a.m., a 5 ft. wooden bench was stolen from the front porch of a residence in the 300 block of Windsor Drive.

Arrest during traffic stop

On 6-9-08 at 2:20 a.m., on Greensprings Highway, two persons were arrested during a traffic stop for being in possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of credit card and felon not in possession of registration card.

On 5-27-09, between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., two vehicles were broken into in the 1200 block of Rue Mason. Suspects in theses car burglaries are two black males seen leaving the area an older red four door Buick.

Stolen Lawn Furniture

Between 5-27-09, 11:30 p.m. and 5-28-09, 7:00 a.m., in the 100 block of Bonita Drive, two Pottery Barn tan wicker chairs and one tan wicker ottoman were stolen from the front porch of a residence.

On 5-26-09, between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., victim reported that her tag was stolen off of her 1997 Dodge Neon from the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road.

On 5-22-09, at 4:37 p.m., Officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 150 block of Aspen Valley. Upon arrival Officers arrested a black male as he exited the apartment. Entry made by kicking in the front door.

Between 5-22-09, 9:00 p.m. and 5-23-09, 8:00 a.m., in the 100 block of Thornwood Drive, victim stated someone entered her car and took her car stereo, woofer and amplifier.

On 5-23-09, between 11:00 a.m. and 3:35 p.m., in the 2800 block of 18^th Street South, someone broke out the rear passenger side window of victim’s vehicle and took a bag containing miscellaneous items.

Between 5-23-09, 11:45 p.m. and 5-24-09, 2:10 a.m., in the 200 block of West Valley Avenue, someone took a purse from victim’s car. Passenger rear door found open. No sign of forced entry.

On 5-24-09 at 7:39 p.m., in the 100 block of Greensprings Highway, a white female was arrested for being in the possession of a stolen car out of Birmingham. She was also charged with being in possession of drug paraphernalia.

On 5-25-09, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:40 p.m., in the 30 block of Aspen Cove, a rock was used to break the window of an apartment. Taken was an X-box 360, X-box games, laptop, cell phone and earrings.

On 5-20-09, at 10:39 a.m., in the 1700 block of Valley Avenue, a black male was arrested for giving false information to a police officer during a traffic stop. Driver did not give his correct name to Officer.

On 5-21-09, at 5:40 p.m., a black female was arrested at Publix, 411 Greensprings Highway, for exiting Publix without paying for a package of ox tails.

Between 5-21-09, 9:00 p.m. and 5-22-09, 7:00 a.m., in the 900 block of Valley Ridge Drive, a 1996 tan Honda Accord, tag #2D2916A, was stolen. Parked in the parking spot where the victim’s Honda was stolen from was a black Honda Civic that was reported stolen out of Birmingham. Victim said her car was locked and she had never seen the Honda Civic before.

On 5-20-09, at 1:30 a.m., a black male was arrested for DUI at Oxmoor Road and Palisades Blvd.

On 5-20-09, at 4:30 p.m., a black male and black female shoplifted merchandise from Macy’s at Brookwood Mall. They left in a green Honda Accord and when Homewood Police attempted to stop the vehicle the suspects led Officers on a pursuit into the city of Birmingham. The male ran off after stopping on 25^th Street SW and he was apprehended after a foot chase.
