On Tuesday August 31, 2010, with an alternative date of September 1, 2010 there will an interruption of electrical service in the 400 and 500 blocks of Broadway Street for construction. The time will be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be several vehicles from APCO in the area.

8-24-10, 11:32 a.m. Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of Valley Ridge Drive. Witness stated three black males had broken into an apartment and were loading property in a black Malibu. Homewood Patrol Officers stopped the Malibu on Valley Avenue and arrested Cordeiro Taylor, Deckeon Moore and Quinton Pennington.

The following warrants have been signed on all three:

Burglary 3rd- $15,000 bond

Theft of Property 2nd-$30,000 bond

Defendants are are in custody at the Homewood City Jail awaiting transfer to the Jefferson County Jail.

All list a Homewood address.

8-19-10, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., 30 block of Aspen Ridge. Apartment entered by breaking window. Stolen was 50” flat screen TV, X-box and games.

8-20-10, Lawn mower reported stolen from garage in the 300 block of Poinciana Drive.

8-20-10, 12:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m., 100 block Aspen Valley. Apartment entered by breaking window with brick. Stolen was Play Station and games.

8-24-10, 12:36 a.m., 140 Statefarm Pkwy (Best Western). Black male armed with a handgun robbed the front desk clerk of cash from cash drawer. Suspect described as 5’7” 150 lbs, wearing blue-red ball cap, white bandana over his face, black sweat shirt and blue jeans. Suspect left in a dark colored Chevy Trail Blazer.

8-24-10, 11:32 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of Valley Ridge. Witness stated that three black males had broken into an apartment and were loading property in a black Malibu with tinted windows.

Officers stopped the Malibu on Valley Avenue near Mecca Avenue and placed the suspects under arrest. The stolen property was recovered.

Residents are urged not to put mail in their mailboxes too early in the day or overnight.

Someone is stealing mail (bill payments that contain personal checks). The checks are then counterfeited and homeless people are used to cash the checks at local banks. The most recent event was an outgoing bill taken from a mailbox on 16 August 2010 after 0630 hrs on Crest Drive. Others have happened in the area of Ridge Road, Mt Brook, and Vestavia.

Possible suspects involved are two thin W/F’s, 5’4”, blonde hair, in their 20’s in a gray, 4-D Explorer (or other SUV). These suspects dropped off a homeless guy to cash a check (check casher was arrested) and may not necessarily be the ones stealing the mail.

Between 8-11-10, 7:00 p.m. and 8-12-10, 7:30 a.m., 1400 block Primrose Place. 2002 Black BMW 530I reported stolen from driveway.

Between 8-11-10, 6:00 p.m. and 8-12-10, 7:00 a.m., 200 block Ridge Road. Two unlocked vehicles entered. Checks, money and a radar detector stolen.

Between 8-11-10, 10:30 p.m. and 8-12-10, 12:00 a.m., 1700 block Kensington Road. Unlocked vehicle entered. Pair of sunglasses stolen.

8-10-10, 4:30 p.m., Edwin Watts Golf, Wildwood. Two black males entered the store and stole 3 golf clubs worth $900.00. Suspects left in a late model Infinity gold or Bronze in color.

Lock your vehicle and remove all valuables.

On 8-8-10, between 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., seven vehicles were spray painted in the area of Kenilworth, Ridge Road, Crest Lane and Crest Drive. Homewood High School was also spray painted.

Suspects are two white males, late teens or early twenties, in a two door grey or white late 1990’s/early 2000’s Grand Am.

Car Burglary

Car Burglary

In the past two weeks there have been several car burglaries occurring at night in the west side of Homewood (Oakmoor, Parkside Court, Venetian Way, Kent Lane, Allen Avenue, and Grove Street). Most of the vehicles have been unlocked. Items taken include wallets, credit cards, gun, I-pod, necklace, camera, purse, CD’s, GPS, brief case and driver’s license.

Do not leave valuables in your vehicle and lock your vehicle.

Citizens have reported seeing a white male in the area checking door handles.

Call the Homewood Police at 911 or 332-6200 if a suspicious person is seen in your neighborhood.

Burglary Arrest

On 8-1-10 at 1:33 a.m. Martin Edwards Collins was arrested for the attempted burglary of a residence in the 3000 block of Roxbury Road and for Burglary in the 1700 block for Kensington Road. On 8-3-10 Homewood Detective signed the following warrants with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Collins:

Burglary 1st- $15,000 bond

Criminal Trespass- $300.00 bond

Assault 3rd- $300.00 bond

Public Intoxication- $300.00 bond

Failure to Comply- $300.00 bond

Collins was transferred from the Homewood Jail to the Jefferson County Jail on 8-3-10.

Collins is 28 years old and has a Homewood address.

A third suspect was arrested on July 30, 2010 and charged in the robbery at Piggly Wiggly (3000 Independence Drive, Homewood) that occurred on July 1, 2010. Marcus A. Gurley, employee of Piggly Wiggly was charged with Robbery 1^st degree. Bond is $60,000.

Gurley is 30 years old and has a Birmingham address.

On July 30, 2010 at 10:10 a.m. Donald D. Traywick was arrested for Reckless Endangerment for an incident on July 27, 2010 at 6:20 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Lakeshore Drive in which the victim stated he was jogging with a group of people when Traywick steered his pick- up truck into him striking him on the left hip and forced him off the road.

Victim was not injured.

Traywick was booked into the Homewood city jail and released on $500.00 bond.

Robbery

7-25-10, 12:10 a.m., 155 Vulcan Road. Four victims stated they were robbed by four black males armed with a handgun who they at met in the parking lot and invited to their hotel room. Suspects left in a tan Dodge Avenger.

Between 7-22-10 and 7-25-10, Cedar path Drive. Door forced open at an apartment. Stolen was hand gun, DVD player.

Between 7-25-10, 4:45 p.m. and 7-26-10, 12:18 a.m., 200 block Robert Jemison Road. Sliding glass door forced open. Stolen was DVD player.

Between 7-25-10, 10:00 p.m. and 7-26-10, 8:00 a.m., 200 block Kent lane. Unlocked vehicle entered and ipod stolen.

Between 7-25-10, 7:00 p.m. and 7-26-10, 6:00 a.m., 800 block Grove Street. Two unlocked vehicles entered. Briefcase, keys, wallet and papers stolen.

Between 7-25-10 10:00 p.m. and 7-26-10, 9:30 a.m., 200 block Allen Avenue. Unlocked vehicle entered. Medical bag taken.

Homewood Detectives signed warrants with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office on the second suspect, Jeffrey Peoples, for the robbery at Piggly Wiggly (3000 Independence Drive, Homewood) on July 1, 2010.

Robbery 1^st- $60,000 bond

Kidnapping 1^st - $60,000 bond

Theft of Property- $30,000 bond

Certain persons forbidden to possess firearms- $15,000 bond

Peoples was transferred from the Homewood City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail on July 10, 2010.

Peoples is 32 years and is from Birmingham.

Homewood Detective signed a Burglary 1^st warrant with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office on Antonio Rhinehart for the burglary of a residence on July 19, 2010 in the 2800 block of 16^th Place South. Rhinehart had barricaded himself in an apartment on 29^th Court and Homewood Tactical Team entered the apartment and arrested Rhinehart.

Bond is $60,000.

Rhinehart is 30 years old and has a Homewood Address.

Rhinehart is in custody at the Homewood City Jail.

July 19, 2010 at 9:39 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 2800 block of 16^th Place South. Witness saw the suspect, a black male, carrying a T.V., run into an apartment in the 1600 block of 29^th Court South. Homewood Officers located the suspect and he refused to come out of the apartment.

Homewood Tactical Team entered the apartment at 1:30 p.m. and placed the suspect under arrest.

Suspect in custody at Homewood city jail.

7-17-10, 9:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m., Purple Onion Greensprings Hwy. Passenger side window broken out on a 2006 Chevrolet pick -up. Stolen was a Blackberry and Garmin GPS.

Between 7-17-10, 11:30 p.m. and 7-18-10, 8:30 a.m. 200 block Kent Drive. Four unlocked vehicles entered and items stolen (9mm handgun, computer, camera, purse, GPS, cash, glasses.)

7-16-10, between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., Drury Inn, 160 Statefarm Pkwy. 2003 black Honda Civic stolen.

On 7-14-10 Homewood Police Department Detective signed warrants with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on:

Barbara Joan Simmons: Robbery 1^st- $30,000 bond

Thomas Brett Lovell: Robbery 1^st- $30,000 bond

The above charges were the result of a robbery that occurred on 7/11/2010 at Firehouse Subs on Greensprings Highway in Homewood. Homewood Police patrol units stopped the suspect vehicle in the area and apprehended the couple still in possession of the stolen cash, and gun used in the robbery. The investigation showed the robbery spree has been ongoing 2-3 weeks and the couple is suspected in multiple armed robberies in the Birmingham, Vestavia, and Pelham areas. The investigation is ongoing and additional robbery charges are expected.

Barbara Simmons is 27 years old and has a Birmingham address.

Thomas Lovell is 32 years old and has a Birmingham address.

Thomas and Simmons were transferred from the Homewood city jail to the Jefferson County jail on 7-14-10.

Recent Burglaries in Homewood

7- 7-10, 5:40 p.m., 1114 Oxmoor Road (Dawson Church rear parking lot), two black males observed breaking into a 2005 Ford Expedition by breaking the rear left passenger window. Suspects left in a faded black 1990’s 4 door Saturn driven by a black male. Stolen was a pink purse and pink wallet.

7-7-10, 12:30 p.m. -12:40 p.m., parking lot, 2834 18^th Street. (Behind Homewood Cycle). Passenger side window broken out on a 2009 Volvo. Brown leather wallet stolen.

7-8-10, 7:40 a.m.-5:30 p.m. 2800 block 16^th Place South. Residence entered by breaking window pane. Stolen was a flat screen TV and 2 lap top computers.

7-12-10, 1:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., 591 Wildwood North Circle. Alabama power station broken into and copper stolen.

Between 7-11-10 and 7-12-10, 1731 26^th Avenue South, Church broken into by breaking a window. Money and water cooler stolen.

7-12-10, 6:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Books a million parking lot Wildwood. Window broken out on a 2007 Toyota . Purse, Ipod, prescription medicine stolen

Between 7-12-10 and 7-13-10, 100 block Aspen Circle, Apartment entered and wallet stolen. Door may have been unlocked.

Between 7-12-10 and 7-13-10, 1691 29^th Court South. Window broken out on a 1996 Toyota. CD player was damaged but not stolen.

Between 7-9-10 and 7-13-10, 3000 block Devonshire, refrigerator stolen.

A burglary 2nd degree warrant was signed on July 8, 2010 by a Homewood Detective on Ralph Farley for the burglary of a residence in the 300 block of West Glenwood on July 2, 2010. Bond is set at $25,000.

Farley is not in custody at this time. He is 53 years old and last known address is in Gadsden, Al.

6-30-10, 3:45 p.m., Homewood Officer was sent to the area of Ridge Road and Mayfair Road on a suspicious black male. Officer saw the black male cut through a yard to Whitehall Road where the Officer was able to place him under arrest. This person was dressed in a white t-shirt and blue jeans and is believed to be involved in the robbery earlier in the day at Piggly Wiggly on Independence Drive.

Suspect currently in custody at the Homewood city jail.

6-30-10 at 9:48 a.m., Homewood Police received a call that two black males stole a black Mercury Milan at gunpoint from the parking lot at Piggly Wiggly 3000 Independence Drive. Homewood Officer spotted the Mercury Milan on Oxmoor Road. The suspects refused to stop and wrecked into a mailbox on Ridge Road and both suspects ran from the scene. Homewood Officers are in the area looking for the suspects with the assistance of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department k-9 unit.

Suspect #1: Black male wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans.

Suspect #2: Black male wearing a dark striped shirt, Blue jeans.

Call the Homewood Police at 911 if these suspects are scene.

6-25-10, 2:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m., Wal Mart 209 Lakeshore Pkwy. Driver side window broken out on a Pontiac. Stolen was a JVC car stereo. Suspect is a black male driving a Red Chevy Cobalt.

6-26-10, 12:35 p.m.-6:00 p.m., 200 block of Mansard Drive. Unknown person entered an unlocked apartment and stole a Dell laptop computer.

6-27-10, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. 375 Statefarm Pkwy (Lowes). Tag stolen off of a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am.

Between 6-27-10 7:30 p.m. and 6-28-10 12:25 a.m., 900 block Mansard Drive. Credit card stolen from an unlocked 1997 Chevy Malibu.

6-28-10, 1:00 p.m-1:30 p.m., 813 Greensprings Hwy. Unknown person stole a purse from an unlocked 1999 Honda CRV.

Robbery

6-26-10, 12:03 a.m., Shell, 1927 29^th Avenue South. Victim said that he was stopped by a white male armed with a hand gun in a 2 door black Nissan car. Taken from the victim was a blackberry and wallet.

Suspect is a white male, thin build, grey hair in his 40’s. Passenger in the Nissan was a heavy set white female, grey hair in her 40’s.

6-21-10, between 11:15 a.m. & 1:30 p.m., 2900 block 16^th Place South. I-book, lap top computer, camera stolen from a residence.

6-21-10, between 12:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m., 900 block Mansard Drive. Window broken out and HP computer, printer stolen.

Between 6-18-10 & 6-21-10, 100 block Aspen Circle. Sliding glass forced open. X box 360, movies, clothing, and shoes stolen.

On the night of 6-21-10, five vehicles were broken into at Magnolia Park Apartments on Valley Avenue.

6-22-10, 12:50 p.m., Post Office parking lot on 18^th Street. Black male wearing a multi colored hat, 5’10”, in his 30’s driving a white 4 door car (partial tag #1A42F) punched out the window of a Mitsubishi Lancer and stole a purse.

6-22-10, between 7:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m., 400 block Edgecrest Drive. Front door forced open. 40” Toshiba TV stolen.

6-23-10, 4:31 a.m., Landry’s Seafood, 139 Statefarm Pkwy. Homewood Officer responded to an alarm and found glass door broken out. Stolen was alcohol.

BUrglary arrest

Marvin W. Jackson was arrested on 6-18-10 and charged with the burglary of a home in the 600 block of Hambaugh Avenue on 6-16-10 in which a flat screen TV was stolen.

Jackson was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail on 6-19-10 on a $15,000 bond for burglary 3rd.

Jackson is 45 years old and is from Birmingham.

Thanks to the Homewood citizens who called when this burglary was in progress which later lead to the arrest of Jackson.

6-16-10 at 8:27 a.m. Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 600 block of Hambaugh Avenue. Officers discovered a rear door had been forced open. Taken from the residence was a flat screen T.V.

Suspect is a black male 5’10” 170 lbs, bald. Left in a sliver Ford Escape or similar size model SUV.

Homewood Police Department Detectives signed the following warrants on Qydearrius Harrison for the burglary of vehicles at Herzing College, 280 West Valley Avenue on 6-13-10 at 1:00 a.m.

Unlawful breaking and entering of vehicle (two warrants) - $15,000 bond each

Possession of Burglary Tools- $15,000 bond

Harrison is 18 years old. He list a Birmingham address.

Harrison was transferred from the Homewood City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail on 6-15-10.

Also two Unlawful breaking and entering of vehicle petitions and a petition for possession of burglary tools were signed at Jefferson County Juvenile Court on a 17 year old male involved in the same incident.

On 6-9-10 at 6:42 p.m. Homewood Police received a call of a suspicious white SUV (Mitsubishi Montero Sport) in the area of the 400 block of Devon Drive. At 7:17 p.m. Officers responded to the 300 block of Gaineswood Drive where it was reported that 3 black males were attempting to break into a house and left in a white SUV with 2 other black males.

Homewood Patrol Sergeant located the white SUV in the parking lot of Quiznos on 18^th Street. 5 black males were taken into custody for investigation of burglary. They are also suspects in burglaries on Irving Road and Drexel Drive.

A robbery 1^st degree warrant was signed with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office on Remad Lamar Chiles for the Robbery of the Hilton Garden Inn (520 Wildwood Circle North, Homewood Al) that occurred on October 24, 2008 at 12:15 a.m.

Bond amount is $60,000.

Chiles is 22 years old and list a Birmingham address.

Chiles is currently in custody in the Homewood Jail on a bail jumping warrant.

On 5/24/2010 @ 8:15AM Marianna Toral Galicia was reported missing by her Mother. Apparently Marianna left her Homewood residence on the same dat @ 07:15AM.

According to her mother, Marianna is believed to be in the company of Juan Carlos (last name unknown) who is approximatley 28-32 years of age.

Travel Destination and Vehicle description are unknown. Allegedly, Juan Carlos resides in the Pinson, AL area.

5-27-10, 1:50 a.m., 250 Greensprings Hwy, black male entered business and reached into the register and took unknown amount of cash. Suspect described as 6’ 275-300 lbs wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a dark colored ball cap. Suspect left in a gold 4-door vehicle.

Robbery Suspect

On 05/15/2010 at approximately 5:29 PM an unknown B/M walked into the Super 8 Motel (located at 140 Vulcan Road) and robbed the clerk of the businesses money as well as the clerk’s personal property.

The suspect jumped across the counter and took the property by threatening to beat the clerk.

SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: B/M, 6’3” 300+ pounds. Was wearing a black shirt and dark pants and was wearing white sunglasses. The suspect left in a gold SUV, possibly a (2001-2002) 2 Door Ford Explorer. Pictures were taken from the motel security cameras.

On 05/12/2010 at approximately 9:50 p.m. a robbery occurred in the 400 block of Edgecrest Dr. and a vehicle description was given out to patrol. At approximately 10:25 p.m. Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the robbery suspect vehicle. Patrol attempted to stop the vehicle however the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. A pursuit continued until the vehicle wrecked at 11^th Street North and 13^th Ave. North. The two occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and officers were able to apprehend the driver of the car, Sylvester Lanard Nixon. The vehicle the suspect was driving was a stolen car out of Tarrant, Al. Also located in the car was property that belonged to the robbery victim on Edgecrest. The suspect was arrested for receiving stolen property 1^st, attempting to elude and reckless endangerment. He was also held as a suspect in the robbery.

On 05/14/2010 Detectives of the Homewood Police Dept. were able to obtain warrants for RSP 1^st degree and set the bond at $30,000. Robbery 1^st charges are pending.

Warn the Public - Potential fraud issues related to the current oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico

In anticipation of fraudulent activity associated with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the National Center for Disaster Fraud has set up a tip line to accept information from the public. The National Center for Disaster Fraud is comprised of over 20 federal agencies and is staffed by live operators 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tips should be reported to 866-720-5721 or via e-mail disaster@leo.gov.

Fraud can take many forms, such as charitable causes, fraudulent services offered pertaining to the oil spill, false incurance claims or potential investment schemes. There has been arrest in the Nadia Kersh missing person case. Homewood Police charged Joacquas Haywood with the murder of Nadia Kersh. Haywood turned himself into the Homewood Police Department last night. He is currently being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.

On May 3, 2010, 11:28 a.m. at 809 Greensprings Hwy, (Jefferson County Satellite Court House), Homewood Alabama a Security Guard for Birmingham Armored Car Services was robbed by 3 black males dressed in black and armed with hand guns. The suspects approached the Security Guard as he was walking out of the Satellite Office. The Security Guard’s gun was taken during the robbery.

Mr. Wallace Eugene Fant, Jr. was last seen at Brookwood Hospital in Homewood on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010. It is believed he took a Yellow Cab from Brookwood Hospital on that date at approximately 7:40 pm and, according to cab records, was dropped off in the Gardendale area that night. He was last seen wearing khaki shorts or blue jean shorts, white shirt and white tennis shoes. He has a tattoo of an eagle on his upper left shoulder. The Homewood Police Department will be on the roof of Wal-Mart, 240 Lakeshore Parkway in Wildwood, for the annual Cops on Top fund-raiser for Special Olympics. The event begins on Friday morning at 6:00 AM, April 23^rd, and runs through Saturday afternoon. Uniformed officers will be on top of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in an effort to raise money for Special Olympics.

This is part of a statewide campaign by the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

When the owner of the lawn mower shouted at the suspect the suspect ran and got into a white 2000 Mercury Villager. Suspect described as 6’ tall, 175 lbs wearing long pants and dark long sleeve hoodie.

Warrants were signed on the following individuals for car burglaries committed on the night of 4-12-10 on North Wildwood Circle. Each individual was charged with 6 counts of unlawful breaking and entering into vehicles and 1 count of Possession of burglary tools. Total bond on each is $120,000.

Homewood Detectives signed warrants with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office on Tyree Walker for the incident on 4-13-10 on Vulcan Road in which Tyree rammed a Homewood Police car injuring a Homewood Officer in an attempt to get away after being stopped on a traffic stop. There had been a lookout issued for the vehicle he was driving for being involved in a robbery.

Walker was charged with the following:

Attempted murder on a Police officer

Certain person forbidden to possess a pistol

Criminal Mischief 1^st

Felony attempting to elude

Resisting arrest

There is a no bond issued on the attempted murder.

Tyree also had an outstanding warrant for Robbery 1^st with the Birmingham Police Department.

Walker is 19 years and lists a Fairfield, Al address.

Walker was transferred from the Homewood Jail to the Jefferson County Jail.

On 4/13/2010 at 3:15 pm, a ten year old female walking home from school was approached by a white male in the Edgewood area (Roseland and E. Glenwood). The white male asked her questions, and made inappropriate comments of a sexual nature. The child felt uncomfortable and ran away. The child’s father reported the incident to HPD.

Suspect described as white male dressed in hospital scrubs driving a white four door vehicle.

There was a similar incident reported in the fall of 2009 also in the Edgewood area regarding a white male taking photographs of children walking home from school. The vehicle was a dark colored SUV. No further information was available.

On 4/14/2010, the school administrators at Edgewood, Shades Cahaba, Hall Kent, and Our Lady of Sorrows School were passed on the above information. The Homewood Board of Education was also notified.

Patrol and Special Operations have been notified in order to provide increased patrol in the neighborhoods after school when the children are walking home.

On April 17^th from 11:00 11:00-3:00 & 4:00-8:00 Homewood , Birmingham and Trussville Police officers will be at the Red Robin Restaurant located at 5029 Pinnacle Square in Trussville for a Tip-A-Cop to raise money for Special Olympics Alabama. Officers will be there in uniform serving customers and taking donations for Special Olympics. We will have police displays set up in the parking lot and selling Torch run shirts. It should be a fun time for all and a chance to meet officers and eat great food. Please make an effort to come out and eat great food and get to know your police officers.

4-12-10, 8:00 p.m., Cobb Street & Oxmoor Road , Black male arrested during a traffic stop for possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawfully carrying a pistol. The pistol was reported stolen out of Birmingham. Suspect also charged with tampering with evidence when he was observed by the arresting officer eating and swallowing marijuana to avoid arrest.

4-12-10, 1:15 a.m., 520 Wildwood North Circle. While on patrol Homewood Patrol Sergeant observed two black males running through the parking of Town Place Suites. Officers located a total of 3 suspects in the area. Officers discovered six vehicles had been broken into. Officers found stolen items from the vehicles in the suspect’s vehicle. All three suspects arrested and charged with unlawful breaking and entering of vehicle, possession of burglary tools and theft of property.

Warrants were signed by Homewood Detectives on Brandon Wells and Maurice Thompson for the robbery that occurred on 4-6-10 at 11:23 p.m. in the parking lot of 430 Greensprings hwy in which one the suspects was armed with a handgun and wore a Halloween mask.

4-6-10, 11:23 p.m., parking lot Greensprings Hwy. Victim said he was robbed by a black male armed with a handgun and wearing a Halloween mask. Suspect jumped into the front seat of a gray Buick Lesabre 4 door. A Homewood Officer spotted the Buick Lesabre and two black males were placed under arrest. A handgun and Halloween mask recovered from the Buick.

4-7-10, 9:00 a.m.-11:10 a.m., 400 block of Lakewood Drive. Computer and T.V. taken from residence. Unknown how entry was made.

4-8-10, 11:30 p.m., 3030 Montgomery Hwy. Officers responded to a burglary alarm and found the front door had been forcibly pried open. Taken were cartons of cigarettes. Suspect is a black male wearing a hooded camouflage jacket and white gloves.

Interstate 65 bidge work

On Monday, March 29th, weather conditions permitting, between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm, Alabama Department of Transportation will begin repairs to the bridge deck located on Interstate 65 northbound at Raleigh Avenue (near milepost 255.7) in Homewood. This work will require the outside (right) travel lane and shoulder to be closed in the area of the repairs. A steel plate will be placed to cover the repairs while the concrete cures and achieves the required strength. This work will continue each day, weather permitting, through April 1st. The work is being done during daylight hours when temperatures are warmer (cold temperatures at night will not allow the concrete to be properly cured). In the event the repairs are not completed by Thursday, April 1st, the work will resume during the same times on the following week. Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.

The conviction was the result of allegations from eight and twelve year old boys who being treated by Haluska and stayed overnight in Haluska’s home in Homewood in 2008.

Sentencing will in be six weeks.

3-6-10, 2:40 a.m. & 10:30 a.m., 151 Vulcan Road. Window broken out on a 1985 Buick. Taken was a CD player.

3-6-10, 1:45 a.m., 300 block of Berkeley Place. Coleman Generator taken from storage building. Suspect possible in a small pick- up truck.

Robbery

3-6-10, 01:15 a.m., 900 block of Oak Grove. Victim said he was approached by two black males wearing hoods, mask, and dark clothing and armed with handguns. Taken from victim was a revolver, cash, Sony camera and drivers license.

Both suspects described as 5’10” 200 lbs. Suspects left in a black van.

On 3-2-10 Homewood Detective signed burglary warrants($15,000 Bond) on Lionel Donzeal Bates and Jameson Robert Finley for the burglary of a residence in the 400 block of Devon Drive on 01-26-10. Suspects were captured by Alabaster Police Department on 02-11-10 for several burglaries in their jurisdiction.

Both are in custody at the Shelby County Jail.

On 3-1-10 a Homewood Detective signed seventeen juvenile petitions at Family Court for Graffiti in Homewood on 3 juveniles. It was determined that juvenile #1 and juvenile #2 were responsible for the graffiti throughout the downtown area of Homewood. Juvenile #1 and #2 were also responsible for graffiti at Homewood High School along with juvenile #3. Juvenile #1 and juvenile #2 also identified several locations that were not reported by the owners of the identified businesses.

Aerotec, which uses various aircraft, airborne remote sensing equipment and ground-based equipment to capture location and identification data for utilities, will be flying a helicopter at approximately 250 altitude feet between the Red Mountain Expressway and Calera on Sunday morning (February 28, 2010). Their route will be along Hwy 280 and they will repeat the route five times.

2-20-10, 11:21 a.m., Wal Mart, 209 lakeshore Pkwy. 3 black males in a 2006 Nissan Altima pulled next to victim’s vehicle, jumped out of the Altima, broke the passenger side window of the victim’s vehicle and took a bank deposit bag.

2-23-10, 7:40 a.m., 1100 block of Shadesmont Road. Officers responded to an alarm and found a basement door had been forced open. A witness saw a white SUV in the leaving the driveway while the alarm was going off.

2-23-10, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., 1500 block of Berry Road. Rear door forced open. Taken were a Samsung 50”T.V., Toshiba 30” T.V., I-Mac computer.

2-24-10, 2:47 p.m., 1000 block of Honeylocust Lane. Officers responded to a call of a front door that had been forced open. Nothing was found missing from residence. Person at the scene found to have a warrant with Irondale Police Department and was placed under arrest.

On February 20, 2010 at 1:40 a.m., a Homewood Patrol Officer arrested James Edward Handy Jr. and Tory Robinson McCain for stealing copper from air conditioner systems on Bagby Drive. A Homewood Detective obtained the following warrants on Handy and McCain:

0n 2-11-10, at 8:15 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to the 300 block of Clermont Road on a call of a suspicious person from a citizen. A Homewood Officer observed Edwyn J. Daniels standing on a fence looking into a back yard.

When the Officer approached Daniels ran off on foot. After a foot chase Daniels was apprehended and found in possession of burglary tools. Daniels was arrested for possession of burglary tools and failure to comply with a lawful order.

Warrants issued by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office:

Possession of Burglary Tools: $15,000 bond

Failure to comply with a lawful order: $300.00 bond

Daniels is 20 years and lists a Hoover address.

Daniels has a previous arrest in April of 2009 for burglary of homes in the Huntington Glen Drive area of Homewood.

1-4-10, 9:50 a.m., West Valley & Greensprings Hwy. two middle aged black males dressed in black in a black 4 door car approached the victim’s car and took a bank deposit bag from the victim. Suspects left going West on West Valley Avenue.

1-5-10, 12:30 a.m. - 12:42 a.m., Harbor Freight, 136 Greensprings Hwy. Officers responded to a burglary alarm and found the back loading door open. It appears suspect may have used a forklift that was onsite to try and pry door open. Nothing missing from business.

On 12-30-09, at 9:15 p.m., Microtel, 251 Summit Parkway, two black males entered and pointed a revolver at the front desk clerk and took money from the register. Suspects left in a red pick up truck. Suspects described as 18-23 years old, 5'8",190 lbs, wearing dark hooded sweat shirts, white t-shirts and baggy dark colored pants.

On 12-30-09, at 10:30 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a call of gunshots at 250 Robert Jemison Road, Knoll Crest Apartments. Upon arrival Officers found 36 year old Isaias Juarez Garcia inside an apartment who had been fatally shot. Several people were brought in for questioning and later released.

No suspects are in custody at this time. This crime remains under investigation.

Between 12-5-09, 10:00 p.m. and 12-7-09, 10:30 p.m., 900 block of Mansard Drive, someone forced open sliding glass door to an apartment. Taken were a 26” T.V., DVD player, 17” Dell Monitor, women’s clothes and tennis shoes.

12-8-09, 2:00 a.m.-7:20 a.m., Super 8 motel, Vulcan Road. Driver’s door window broken out on a 2002 Dodge Ram. Assorted tools taken.

12-4-09, 7;00 a.m., a white Chevrolet Celebrity that was stolen from Birmingham was recovered from a parking lot at 88 Robert Jemison Road.

12-4-09, 1:15 p.m., Oxmoor Blvd, two white females were placed under arrest during a traffic stop for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (crack pipes) and one of the females was also charged with giving false information for giving a wrong name to a Police Officer.

12-4-09, 3:15 p.m., K-mart, 230 Greensprings Hwy, white male arrested for shoplifting two University Of Alabama jackets, one Alabama sweat shirt and sweat pants.

12-5-09, 6:30 a.m., IHOP, 221 Statefarm Parkway, white female was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

12-5-09, 9:37 p.m., Lakeshore Drive & University Park Drive, Officer observed a vehicle driving west bound in the east bound lanes. Officer stopped the vehicle and the white male driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Burglary

12-6-09, 10:40 p.m., Radio Shack 220 Statefarm Pkwy, Officers responded to a burglary alarm and found the front glass had been out broken with a brick. Taken were laptop computers and Apple I-Pods.

The annual Homewood Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The parade will start at 9:00 a.m. The parade route will start at the Homewood library, east on Oxmoor Road, north on 18^th street, west on 28^th Avenue and end at Homewood Park.

Streets in the area begin will closing down at 8:45 a.m.

11-30-09, 10:05 a.m., two black males went into K & G Menswear (243 Lakeshore Parkway), grabbed arm loads of clothing worth $966.79 and ran out the store and left in a tan 1984 Cadillac. A Homewood Patrol Officer spotted the Cadillac on Lakeshore Drive. Cadillac was stopped and the occupants arrested for theft of property.

12-1-09, 11:05 a.m., 411 Greensprings Hwy, a Homewood Officer working Proactive Patrol was patrolling the Publix parking lot when he observed two Publix employees who were attempting to stop a white male who had just shoplifted $177.00 worth of merchandise. The shoplifter was attempting to walk away from the Publix employees. The shoplifter stopped when he saw the Homewood Officer and he was placed under arrest.

Between 11-29-09, 1:00 a.m. and 12-01-09, 6:30 p.m., 200 block of Devon Drive, someone forced open a door of a residence. Taken were 3 T.V.’s.

11-25-09, 8:45 a.m., Motel 6, 151 Vulcan Road. Black male,5’5” 140 lbs, 19-26 years old wearing a black jacket pointed a handgun at the front desk clerk and took money from the cash drawer.

Stolen vehicle

Between 11-26-09, 11:00 p.m. and 11-27-09, 3:00 a.m., 100 block of Robert Jemison Road, a grey 1987 Chevrolet Caprice, was stolen.

Burglary

11-27-09, between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., Belk’s parking lot, Brookwood Mall. 2007 Volvo was entered through an unlocked door. Taken was an I-pod, and purse. Purse later found in a trash can inside Brookwood Mall.

During the night of 11-27-09 someone entered an unlocked Lexus in the 200 block of Knoll Crest Drive and took checks and money.

Drug arrest

11-29-09, 3:05 a.m., Valley Avenue at Palisades Drive, two white females were arrested during a traffic stop for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. One of the females was also charged with giving false information for lying about her identity.

Homewood Police Officers arrested a total of 16 persons over the Thanksgiving weekend (11-26-09 to 11-29-09) for offenses such as DUI, illegal drugs, failure to appear, and theft of property.

11-21-09, 2:40 a.m., Officers responded to a burglary alarm at Jacksons, 1831 28^th Avenue South. Front glass door had been broken out by a large rock. Cash box taken.

11-21-09, 8:00 a.m., Vulcan Road, a stolen 1989 Buick was recovered during a traffic stop. Black male driver was arrested.

Between 11-17-09, 10:30 a.m. and 11-18-09, 6:30 a.m., 195 Oxmoor Road, 6 cases of panty hose worth $2160.00 was stolen from a company van. Entry by removing lock on the driver’s side door.

Between 11-18-09, 9:00 p.m. and 11-19-09, 9:00 a.m., 275 Oxmoor Road, door was forced open to a hotel room. Taken was a 19” T.V., a mirror off the wall and a bed comforter.

11-19-09, 7:30 p.m., 1000 block of Thornwood Drive, entry made by forcing open kitchen window. Taken was assorted jewelry, several watches, Dell computer, 9mm pistol and money.

Robbery

11-19-09, 6:40 p.m., Holiday Inn, 492 Wildwood Circle, black male 5’6” 150 lbs, in his 20’s wearing a dark brown hoodie, baggy blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a multi colored baseball cap pointed a revolver at the front desk clerk and took money from the cash drawer.

Suspect left in a gold 4 door Acura.

11-14-09, 4:15 a.m., 300 block of Huntington Parc, Officers responded to a call of a suspicious person and located a white male behind a residence. The male was intoxicated and could not explain to the officers where he was. When Officers attempted to place him under arrest he resisted and after a struggle the male was placed under arrest. He was charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest, trespassing and refusal to comply.

11-10-09, 1400 block of Berry Road, resident came home to find a white male coming from the back of her residence. Resident found her back door had been forced open. White male left in a white Honda Accord with front end damage. Homewood Patrol Officer stopped the Honda at Berry Road and Columbiana. White male and white female were arrested and charged with burglary.

Between 11-11-09, 6:00 p.m. and 11-12-09, 6:20 a.m., 300 block of Columbiana Road, rock was thrown through front door. Taken was cash and computer printer.

11-12-09, 6:15 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., 300 block of Gainswood Road, entry made through unlocked second story window. 32’ T.V., camera, diamond ear ring, T.V. remote taken

At 9:30 a.m. a white work van with lettering on it was seen in the driveway.

Vehicle refused to stop and lead Officers on a pursuit from Broadway to Columbiana Road to Lakeshore to I-65 North where the suspects stopped just past Oxmoor Road entrance ramp. White male driver and passenger both placed under arrest. Illegal drugs found in vehicle. Both charged with Unlawful possession of controlled substance, reckless endangerment, attempting to elude and resisting arrest.

11-8-09, 12:30 a.m., Parkridge Drive and Manhattan Street, victim said that he was approached by a black male who struck him in the face with a closed fist knocking him to the ground. Suspect took money from the victim’s wallet and left on foot.

Suspect #2: 6’2” brown and red outfit and a black bandana over his face.

Nadia Kersh Candlelight Ceremony

On Tuesday, November 3rd, there will be a Candlelight Ceremony for Nadia Kersh in observance of the one year anniversary of her disappearance. The Ceremony will be held at the SOHO Plaza in front of Homewood City Hall with the Ceremony starting at 7:00 PM. The public is invited to attend.

The Homewood Police Department believes that there are persons in the community that have information on the disappearance of Nadia Kersh. You are ecouraged to contact the Homewood Police Tip line at 332-6262 if you have any information. There is currently reward money totalling $50,000.00 for information that results in determination of the whereabouts of Nadia Kersh.

Between 5:30 PM on October 30th and 8:00 AM October 31st. Entry made through unlocked door. Items taken include batteries, engine scanner, cash register, air compressor and Chevrolet Siverado pick-up.

Business Burglary-1900 block of 28th Ave South

At approximately 10:35 PM on October 30th. Front window broken out and cell phones taken.

Business Burglary- 200 block of State Farm Parkway

At approximately 11:30 PM. Front window broken out and cell phones taken.

The last two burglaries listed invloved the "smash and grab" method of break-in. The alarms goes off, but the burglar grabs the closest merchandise to the entry point and is gone before the police arrive. Employees should be aware of suspicious persons in the parking lot of businesses at closing. 10-23-09, 11:55 p.m., in the 100 block of Vulcan road, a black male was arrested during a traffic stop for a warrant with the city of Homewood and being in the possession of several credit cards that did not belong to him.

10-25-09, 10:02 p.m., in the 10 block of Statefarm Parkway, a white female was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Burglary

10-23-09, between 11:00 a.m. and 4:50 p.m., in the 700 block of Raleigh Avenue, someone forced open the door to an apartment and took a 32” T.V.

Robbery

10-23-09, 10:00 p.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Court, Hispanic male said he was approached by two black males who pointed a silver gun at him and took money from his wallet. Victim said as the suspects left they started shooting at him when he reached for his phone. Victim said he ran into his apartment, got his gun, and fired his gun at the suspects. No reported injuries.

10-23-09, 2:30 p.m., parking lot, Wachovia Bank, 325 West Valley Avenue, victim said she was approached by a male, unknown race, who pointed a gun at her head and demanded the deposit bag she was carrying. Suspect was wearing brown coveralls and a black ski mask. Suspect left in a tan or beige small car.

10-21-09, between 10:25 a.m. and 10:35 a.m., in the 200 block of Ridge Road, suspect entered a residence by forcing open a back door. Taken was assorted jewelry.

Suspect is described as a male, unknown race, 5’10” 225 lbs, wearing a green hooded jacket and blue jeans.

10-21-09, between 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., in the 1500 block of Grove Place, someone entered through a back of a residence by force. Taken were camera, I-pod, coins and jewelry.

Robbery

10-21-09, 10:07 p.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Valley, two Hispanic males were robbed at gunpoint by three black males. One of the victims was struck in the head with a gun.

Suspects were dressed in black pants and black jackets with hoods.

10-21-09, 10:20 p.m., in the 900 block of Valley Ridge Drive, Hispanic male stated that he was approached by three black males armed with pistols. Victim said he drove away in his pick- up truck and one of the suspects fired 4 shots at him. One of the shots went through the tailgate and struck the victim in the upper right arm.

Suspects described as all wearing dark pants and black hooded sweat shirts. Two were medium and one large in size.

10-20-09, between 11:50 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Circle, unknown person entered an apartment through a window and took a laptop computer and a portable DVD player.

On 10-17-09, between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., in the parking lot of Sam’s Club on Lakeshore parkway, unknown person broke the front passenger side window of 2000 Chevrolet van. No items missing from van.

On 10-17-09, between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Court, someone kicked open the front door of an apartment. Taken were a 37” T.V., sound system, Wii game system, Playstation and DVD’s.

Attempted Robbery

10-16-09 at 9:44 p.m., pizza delivery person said he was attempting to deliver a pizza in the 2500 block of Central Avenue when he was approached by a black male who pointed a small pistol at him. Victim ran to his car and left the area.

Suspect described as a black male, 5’7” 150 lbs, 19-24 years old, wearing a white scarf or towel around his face.

On 10-12-09, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., in the 800 block of Wingate Circle, side window was broken with a rock. Taken from the residence were 2 T.V.’s, lap top computer, I-pod and assorted jewelry. A black male was observed ringing the door bell around 9:30 a.m. He was described as 6’, 150 lbs, around 20 years of age wearing a white t-shirt. He left in a mid size tan vehicle with a small rear spoiler driven by another unknown person.

On 10-12-09, between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Circle, victim stated that unknown person entered her apartment through an unlocked sliding glass door and took her lap top computer, amplifier and speakers.

On 9-26-09, at 2:34 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary alarm in the 1700 block of Valley Avenue. Officers saw two black males running from the rear door of an apartment where the alarm was coming from. After a foot chase the two suspects were placed under arrest for burglary.

On 9-25-09, between 10:30 a.m. and 11:16 a.m., unknown person entered a 2008 Porsche Cayenne by breaking a window and took a purse at Homewood Park on Oxmoor Road.

Warrants were signed by Homewood Detectives on Darius Williams on 8-17-09 for the robbery of three persons on 8-16-09 at 11:55 p.m. in the 2900 block of Crescent Avenue in Homewood.

The Homewood Police Department receives many calls from residents concerned about door-to-door sales and solicitations. The Homewood Municipal Code requires any person selling door-to-door to obtain a license and to display the license upon request. If a salesperson comes to your door, you are not required to listen to their sales presentation and may ask them to leave your property without reason. Under no circumstances should you give out any personal information about yourself, your family or your neighbors. Never allow a door-to-door solicitor to enter your residence. If you are suspicious of a salesperson, call the Homewood Police Department.

Between 8-15-09, 9:00 p.m. and 8-16-09, 00:06 a.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Circle, unknown person entered an apartment by breaking a window. Taken were a Playstation 2, CD player, and a 20” T.V.

On 8-16-09 at 01:21 a.m., in the 200 block of West Valley Avenue, driver arrested during a traffic stop for possession of cocaine.

Robbery

On 8-17-9, at 00:18 a.m., a robbery in progress was called in by victims in the 2900 block of Crescent Avenue. Suspect described as a black male that was armed with a handgun and left in a red Buick Regal. Homewood Officers located the vehicle and the suspect refused to stop and lead Officers on a pursuit to Lomb and McMillan in Birmingham where the suspect wrecked. After a foot chase the suspect was placed under arrest.

On 8-13-09, between 2:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Lane, entry made into an apartment by breaking open a window. Taken was a wallet, a watch, CD’s and DVD’s.

Between 8-13-09 ,9:30 p.m. and 8-14-09, 5:15 a.m., in the 200 block of Oxmoor Road, a green 1992 Honda Civic was stolen from the parking lot. Tag #M637WL.

On 8-8-09, at 10:40 a.m., in the 2900 block of Linden Avenue, victim said that a white male 5’9”, brown hair came into her business and went behind the counter and stole money from her purse. Suspect left on foot towards 18^th street.

Between 8-2-09 and 8-10-09, in the 100 block of Fern Street, unknown person forced open a door. Nothing appeared to be missing from residence.

On 8-10-09, between 8:00 a.m. and 1:40 p.m., in the 300 block of Edgeview Avenue, front door was found open, missing is a laptop computer, 32” Samsung T.V., and jewelry.

On 8-10-09, at 1:30 p.m., in the 1700 block of Valley Avenue, it was discovered that unknown person had turned the water and stopped the drains causing water damage to the residence.

On 8-10-09 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., in the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road, unknown person pried open the front door. Nothing appears to be missing from residence.

On 8-10-09, between 8:30 a.m. and 7:45 p.m., in the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road, victim said that someone entered his residence by the sliding glass door and took a 26” Sanyo flat screen T.V., Play Station 3 and 6 baseball caps.

8-5-09, 8:00 p.m.-9:00p.m., a trailer was stolen from the 1000 block of Forest Brook drive. The trailer was loaded with a John Deere zero turn mower, two Stihl weed eaters, one Stihl edger and one Stihl back blower.

Between 8-2-09, 10:00 p.m. and 8-3-09, 7:00 a.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Circle, someone entered an apartment by breaking a bedroom window. Taken was 46” Visio T.V., 32” LG T.V., jewelry and clothing.

On 8-1-09, at 01:15 a.m., in the 1100 block of Thornwood Drive, Homewood Officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress call. Upon arrival Officers arrested a black male who was an ex-boyfriend of the victim.

Between 7-31-09, 7:00 p.m. and 8-1-09, 00:20 a.m., in the 800 block of College Avenue, victim said that someone stole his 14 foot utility trailer and John Deer 64 inch stand mower.

On 8-1-09, 9:00 p.m. and 8-2-09, 10:20 a.m., in the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road, victim said someone entered her unlocked car and took her McDonald’s paycheck from the glove box.

On 8-2-09, between 00:10 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., in the 100 block of Olympia Drive, someone broke the driver’s window of a 1999 Oldsmobile and took a Sony sub woofer. Also taken was the tag off the car, 1H2168G.

On 8-2-09, between 8:45 p.m. and 10:55 p.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Circle, the driver’s side window was broken out on a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. Taken was a Garmin GPS.

The Homewood Police Department in conjunction with the Homewood Police Foundation will celebrate National Night Out on August 4, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event will be at Homewood Central Park, 1632 Oxmoor Road. Burglary

On 7-30-09 at 1205 p.m., in the 200 block of Oxmoor Road, victim said that someone reached into the open sunroof of her vehicle and took her purse. Suspect is a black male 6’ 235 pounds in his 30’s who left in a red over tan Ford F150 pickup truck with an Alabama tag on the front bumper.

On 7-29-09 between 1030 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., in the 300 block of Columbiana Road, someone entered an apartment by forcing open the front door. Taken was a Toshiba laptop computer.

Robbery

On 7-30-09 at 10:10 p.m., in the 400 block of Elder oaks Way, victim said he was approached by two black males, one armed with a black handgun. They demanded his money and left in a green Yukon Denali.

Victim described suspect #1 as wearing a black shirt and may have had braids in his hair. Suspect #2 was wearing a white shirt.

On 7-29-09 between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., in the 50 block of Aspen Cove, someone forced open the front door and took a Dell laptop computer.

On 7-29-09 between 4:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Cove, someone forced open the front door. Taken was a Playstation 2, Nintendo game cube, box of Tilapia fillets, box of chicken legs and a box of chicken fillets.

Victim stated that between 7-21-09 and 7-28-09, in the 1500 block of Roseland Drive, someone took a Sony laptop computer from his unlocked vehicle.

On 7-29-09, at 8:00 p.m., Homewood Task Force Officers attempted to stop a 1989 Buick for a traffic violation. Driver refused to stop and traveled north on I-65. The passenger in the vehicle began throwing what appeared to be marijuana and cocaine out the window. The vehicle exited at 16^th Street in Birmingham. Vehicle stopped and after a foot chase the passenger was placed under arrest and was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics and had warrants out for his arrest for robbery and attempted murder.

On 7-28-09 at 1:45 p.m., in the parking lot of Salvation Army, 76 Greensprings Highway, victim stated she had stopped in the parking lot of the Salvation Army to make a phone call when she was approached by a black male in his 20’s wearing a black t-shirt. Victim said the suspect jumped in her car and grabbed her wallet. Victim tried to grab her wallet and the suspect struck her in the head with his fist and dragged her out the car.

Suspect left in a grey Volvo station wagon driven by a black male.

On 7-23-09 at 00:45 a.m., at Lakeshore Parkway at I-65, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was stopped for a switched tag. Upon investigation, the Impala was found to be stolen out of Birmingham. Driver arrested for receiving stolen property.

On 7-23-09 at 5:00 p.m., in the 2700 block of 18^th Street, A Sirius radio was taken from a BMW with the top down. Witness said she saw 3 black males in their 20’s take the radio and run off.

On 7-23-09 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:05 p.m., in parking lot of one Metro Plex Drive, someone threw a brick through the window of a 1992 Olds Cutlass and took a Taurus hand gun.

On 7-24-09 at 1:40 a.m., at Greensprings Highway and Valley Avenue, Officers stopped a 2001 Ford Expedition that was reported stolen. Driver was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and a crack pipe. Driver placed under arrest.

Witness who was jogging in the area said he saw a tan SUV parked on the street and a black female between 18-20 years old walking toward the SUV as he jogged by the incident location. The SUV was last seen on Saulter Road going towards Broadway Street.

On 6-29-09 at 1:30 p.m., in the 2700 block of BM Montgomery Street, someone broke the passenger side window of a 2003 Kia and stole a Magellan GPS.

On 6-29-09, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., in the 200 block of Kent Lane, Someone forced open the rear door and took a Nintendo Wii and Wii games.

On 6-30-09 at 11:30 p.m., in the 400 block of Wildforest Drive, victim said he saw two white males inside his vehicle. Victim approached the suspects and the suspects ran off on foot. Victim gave chase and when he caught one of the suspects, two additional males arrived and began to hit and kick the victim.

Suspects left the area in a Chrysler Sebring. A Homewood Patrol Officer spotted the car on Old Montgomery Highway. The Officer stopped the car and the five white males in the car were placed under arrest.

Between 6-29-09, 6:00 p.m. and 6-30-09, 4:30 a.m., in the 400 block of Wildforest Drive, a Garmin GPS was taken from a 2004 Toyota. No sign of forced entry to vehicle.

Robbery

On 6-20-09 at 10:50 p.m., in the 30 block of Aspen Circle, a Hispanic male said he was approached by a black male who put a handgun to the back of his head and took his wallet and cell phone. Victim said the suspect punched him the face and left in a sliver or champaign colored four door Ford car, possibly a Taurus.

Victim described the suspect as 5’7” 155 lbs, medium complexion, wearing a white t-shirt and black pants.

On June 10th, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., Homewood Police attempted to stop a Maroon Ford Taurus for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and struck a Homewood Police car leading Officers on a pursuit to Shannon Road where the Taurus drove off into the woods at Shades Creek Industrial Park. A white female was placed into custody at the scene. A white male wearing a dark shirt and a pony tail ran from the scene along with a white female.They have not been located at this time.

Marianne Leigh Painter Goodwin, the owner of the maroon Ford Taurus that was involved in the Police Pursuit in Homewood on June 10, 2009 is a person of interest in the case.

Goodwin is a white female, 41 years old, 5’6”, 160 lbs.

Robbery

On 6-6-09 at 9:00 p.m., a Hispanic male was arrested at Wal Mart, 209 Lakeshore Parkway for robbery for exiting the store without paying for a music CD when he resisted when being arrested by Wal Mart security and Homewood Police.

On 6-7-09, at 7:00 p.m., at the night deposit box at Compass Bank, 501 Shades Creek Parkway, victim stated he was approached by a black male who hit the victim and grabbed his deposit bags. Victim punched the suspect in the face. The suspect then hit the victim in the head with a blunt object. Suspect left in a silver or white 4 door Hyundai Elantra driven by another black male.

Victim described the suspects as both being in their 20’s and both wearing white shirts and one had on khaki pants.

Stolen Bench

Between 6-7-09, 8:00 p.m. and 6-9-09, 6:15 a.m., a 5 ft. wooden bench was stolen from the front porch of a residence in the 300 block of Windsor Drive.

On 6-9-08 at 2:20 a.m., on Greensprings Highway, two persons were arrested during a traffic stop for being in possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of credit card and felon not in possession of registration card.

On 5-24-09 at 7:39 p.m., in the 100 block of Greensprings Highway, a white female was arrested for being in the possession of a stolen car out of Birmingham. She was also charged with being in possession of drug paraphernalia.

On 5-20-09, at 10:39 a.m., in the 1700 block of Valley Avenue, a black male was arrested for giving false information to a police officer during a traffic stop. Driver did not give his correct name to Officer.

On 5-21-09, at 5:40 p.m., a black female was arrested at Publix, 411 Greensprings Highway, for exiting Publix without paying for a package of ox tails.

Between 5-21-09, 9:00 p.m. and 5-22-09, 7:00 a.m., in the 900 block of Valley Ridge Drive, a 1996 tan Honda Accord, tag #2D2916A, was stolen. Parked in the parking spot where the victim’s Honda was stolen from was a black Honda Civic that was reported stolen out of Birmingham. Victim said her car was locked and she had never seen the Honda Civic before.

On 5-20-09, at 1:30 a.m., a black male was arrested for DUI at Oxmoor Road and Palisades Blvd.

On 5-20-09, at 4:30 p.m., a black male and black female shoplifted merchandise from Macy’s at Brookwood Mall. They left in a green Honda Accord and when Homewood Police attempted to stop the vehicle the suspects led Officers on a pursuit into the city of Birmingham. The male ran off after stopping on 25^th Street SW and he was apprehended after a foot chase.

On 5-16-09, at 8:45 a.m., a white male was arrested during a traffic stop on I-65 for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin.

On 5-16-09, at 1:13 p.m., in the 2100 block of Hillside Circle, a white male was arrested for public intoxication.

On 5-17-09, at 2:00 a.m., at Valley Avenue and Palisades Drive, a black male was arrested for receiving stolen property. Suspect was driving a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Birmingham.

Torch Run

The 2009 Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run will commence on May 14th in Decatur AL at 12:00 Noon. From there, the Torch Run goes to Hartselle and then travels by caravan to Homewood. After spending the night in Homewood, we are off to Pelham for a run to Alabaster. The Torch Run then caravans to Montgomery and ends with a final leg in Troy. On Friday night, the officers of the Torch Run will bring the Flame of Hope into the Troy University football stadium for the Opening Ceremony of the State Games.

Bank Robbery Arrest

On 5-11-09, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Harvey Stuart Dickson was arrested for the Robbery of Regions Bank, 475 Greensprings Highway Homewood, Alabama that occurred on 5-11-09.

Dickson was arrested at a hotel in Fairfield by Homewood Detectives, FBI Safe Streets Task Force and with assistance of the Bessemer Police Department.

Dickson is currently in custody at the Homewood city jail.

Regions Bank, 475 Greensprings Highway, Homewood Al 35209, was robbed on 5-11-09 at 10:07 a.m.

By a white male armed with a silver handgun. Suspect presented a note to the teller and left in a red Acura Legend, 1980’s model.

Suspect is a white male, 5’10” 170-190 lbs wearing black rimmed glasses.

On 5-8-09, at 10:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Chastaine Circle, victim stated that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and took shirts and a dog leash.

On 5-8-09, between 3:30 p.m. and 4:10 p.m., victim stated someone took her purse from the food court at Brookwood Mall.

Between 5-6-09, 9:30 p.m. and 5-7-09, 7:00 a.m., in the 1500 block of PrimRose Place, victim stated someone took a bag with assorted tools and a sound machine from inside his unlocked truck. Also taken was a 22’ folding ladder from the back of the truck.

On 5-9-09, between 9:40 a.m. and 10:20 p.m., in the 1300 block of Columbiana Road, someone broke the driver’s side window of victim’s SUV and took her purse.

It's Torch Run Day at Alabama Adventure on May 9th!

Alabama Adventure, the theme park located in Jefferson County, has declared May 9th as "Torch Run Day" for Special Olympics and has asked the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run to kick-off this year's state run from their facility. The event will be promoted throughout the Park. The lighting of the "Flame of Hope" will be at 10:00 AM followed by a Torch Run through the Park. Officers from across the state will be on hand to participate. Officers will be selling Torch Run shirts at the gate for $10.00. Last night (4-30-09) there were several car burglaries in the area of Saulter Road, Saulter Lane, Crest Drive and South Forest Drive. In all these cases the doors to the vehicles were unlocked and valuables were left unsecured.

We Love Homewood Day

We Love Homewood Day will be at Patriot Park on Oak Grove Road on Saturday, May 2, 2009 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. There will hot air balloon rides, bar-b-que, baked goods, inflatable’s, dunking booth, music and arts and crafts.

The We love Homewood Parade will start at the Homewood Library at 6:00 p.m. and ends at Edgewood (Oxmoor Road and Broadway Street). Ridge Road which runs on the east side of the Homewood library will be closed from Roseland Drive to Oxmoor Road starting at 4:00 p.m. so that the parade can be organized.

The street party will be at Edgewood (Oxmoor Road and Broadway Street) and will begin after the parade. Oxmoor Road will be shutdown at Broadway Street from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for the street party.

The Homewood Rotary will sponsor a sidewalk art competition at Homewood Central Park.

Between 4-24-09, 12:00 p.m. and 5-25-09, 7:00 a.m., someone broke into a garage in the 1400 block of Manhatten Street and took lawn equipment.

Between 4-23-09, 12:00 p.m. and 4-25-09, 12:00 p.m., someone broke into a garage in the 200 block of Clermont Drive and took lawn equipment, shop vac, circular saw, drill and food.

On 4-26-09 at 12:33 a.m., two black males were arrested for breaking into cars on West Valley Avenue.

Between 4-25-09, 9:00 a.m. and 4-26-09, 6:00 a.m., a 10’ foot utility trailer was stolen from the 200 block of Oxmoor Circle.

Between 4-26-09 10:45 p.m. and 4-27-09 8:00 a.m., in the 3100 block of Lancaster court, someone broke out the passenger side window of a Red Mazda and took a GPS unit.

On 4-27-09 at 2:39 p.m., in the 100 block of Queensbury Road, someone called 911 and reported two black males driving a red Ford F150 pickup had stolen his lawnmower. The pickup truck was stopped on Greensprings Highway and the driver was arrested for theft of property

On 4-23-09, at 10:42 a.m., a Homewood Officer stopped a car driven by Michael Robinson on Shades Creek Parkway in front of Brookwood Mall. It was discovered that Robinson had several misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest. When Robinson was told he was being placed under arrest he ran across Shades Creek and across the parking into the woods behind Brookwood Mall. Area was searched by Officers, Robinson was not located.

Michael Robinson is a white male 5’11”, 165 lbs, 30 years of age. He was wearing a red shirt. In addition to the outstanding warrants, he is being charged with escape 3^rd, failure to comply, resisting arrest and traffic violations.

"Cops on Top" of Walmart in Homewood

The Homewood Police will be working with Birmingham Police, but they won’t be investigating any criminals! Instead, for 34 hours straight, officers will sit on the roof at their local Walmart to raise money for Special Olympics. Other departments across the state will also be roof-sitting on Walmarts to participate in the “2009 Cops on Top” fundraiser.

Who: Homewood Police Department, who will be joined by Birmingham officers

When: Friday, April 24 at 5:30am until Saturday, April 25 at 4:00pm

Where: Walmart, 209 Lakeshore Parkway, Homewood, Alabama

Attorney General Troy King will be visiting each site on Friday April 24^th to show his support of the Torch Run and Special Olympics.

On 4-21-09, at 1:45 p.m., two black driving males driving a white pickup truck were arrested on Oak Grove Road for being in possession of stolen lawn equipment.

On 4-21-09, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., in the 2700 block of 18^th Street South, someone forced open the door of a 2004 Ford Explorer and took a cell phone.

On 4-21-09, at 9:50 p.m., a black male, armed with a handgun, robbed the Pizza Hut, 14 Greensprings Highway. Suspect described as 6’5” 230+ lbs, wearing a yellow bandanna, blue jeans, white t-shirt, black ball cap and red tennis shoes. Suspect left in an older 4 door ford car.

On 4-17-09, Homewood officers received a call concerning a suspicious person in the area of Hunting Glenn Drive. Edwin J. Daniels was found hiding in the bushes by Homewood Officers. Daniels was found to be in possession of property stolen during burglaries in the area and he was in possession of cocaine.

On 4-18-09 burglary warrants were signed on Edwin J. Daniels for burglaries in Homewood.

Four burglary warrants, $15,000 bond for each warrant.

One Warrant for unlawful possession of controlled substance, $15,000 bond.

On 4-14-09 at 7:00 p.m., in the 400 block of Honey Locust Lane, four black males armed with an AK-47 rifle, robbed two victims in the parking of their wallets, cell phones and keys. Suspects left in a blue Saturn. Homewood Officers located the vehicle on Beacon Parkway East. The four suspects were placed under arrest and charged with robbery 1^st.

On 4-14-09, between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., in the 900 block of Oak Grove Road, someone kicked in the front door and threw a brick through the rear door of a business.

On 4-14-09, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:45 p.m., in the 600 block of Oakmoor Road, someone forced open a back door and took a camcorder and Nintendo DS from a residence.

Between 4-14-09, 11:30 p.m. and 4-15-09, 4:15 a.m. someone stole a 2001 blue Ford Ranger, tag #87131AY, from the 1000 block of Honey Locust Lane.

On 4-15-09, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:20 p.m., in the 2500 block of Hunting Parc Court, someone kicked in the rear door of a residence and took jewelry.

On 4-15-09, between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Hunting Parc Court, someone entered a residence through an unlocked door and took a digital camera and a laptop computer.

On April 16^th, 2009, the Mustang Club of America will be having a street party in downtown Homewood. At 6:00 p.m., there will be an estimated 450-500 cars that will line up at the Barbers Motor Sports Park and leave under Police Escort from Barber’s and drive to downtown Homewood.

Starting at 3:30 p.m. the following streets in downtown Homewood will be closed:

18^th Street between Oxmoor and 28^th Avenue

Linden Avenue between Oxmoor and 28^th Avenue

Reese Street between Linden and 18^th Street

29^th Avenue between 18^th Street and 19^th Street

There will be a stage for a band set up at the corner of 29^th and 18^th.

Between 4-10-09, 10:00 a.m. and 4-12-09, 5:55 p.m., a 1997 maroon and silver Ford F150 pickup, tag #1H9744H, was stolen from the 1800 block of Oxmoor Road.

Between 4-11-09, 7:00 p.m. and 4-13-09, 11:00 p.m. a residence being remodeled in the 400 block of St. Charles Street was burglarized. Taken were assorted power tools.

Shoplifter arrest

On 4-11-09, at 9:00 a.m., a Homewood Patrol Officer observed a black male, who he had arrested before for shoplifting at Food World; exit Food World, 216 Greensprings Highway, without paying for a package of ribs. Suspect got into silver Ford Focus and refused to stop for the Officer. Officers pursued the suspect to Mayfield Avenue in Birmingham where the suspect vehicle struck a Homewood Police car and then wrecked. The suspect ran and the Officer used a tazer to stop the suspect and placed him under arrest.

Suspect had a warrant with Homewood and was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia for a hypodermic needle.

Driver of the vehicle was also placed under arrest.

On 4-10-09 at 4:30 p.m. two shoplifters were arrested at Belk’s, 600 Brookwood Village, for stealing a Polo shirt. One of the shoplifters was also charged with disorderly conduct for cursing and screaming in public while being escorted to a patrol car.

Between 4-8-09, 8:00 p.m. and 4-9-09, 6:30 a.m., at 160 State farm Parkway, five vehicles were broken into. Items reported taken include golf clubs, computer, GPS unit, camera, sunglasses and shoes.

On 4-9-09 between 2:20 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., at 3800 Ridgeway Drive, two vehicles were broken into. Taken was a cell phone, checks and a purse.

On 4-9-09, at 2:35 a.m., Homewood Police responded to a robbery in the 100 block of Aspen Circle. Two victims said they were approached by two black males in the parking lot. The suspects sprayed the victims in the face with mace and took their wallets and cell phones. Suspects left in an older white car.

Victim described the suspects as black males, in their 20’s, both 5’7”, 140 lbs. One was wearing a black hoodie and baggie black pants. The second suspect was wearing a white hoodie and baggie black pants.

On 4-4-09, at 2:15 a.m., Homewood Officer stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of Valley Avenue. Officer observed the driver and the passenger trying to conceal a shotgun under a jacket. Shotgun was stolen from Hoover. Driver and passenger arrested for receiving stolen property and transported to Homewood City Jail.

On 4-4-09 at 12:51 p.m., in the 1600 block of Ridge Road, victim reported that an IBM laptop computer was taken from his unlocked car.

On 4-2-09, at 12:15 a.m., A Homewood Police Officer was patrolling the parking lot in front of Fred’s Pharmacy, 234 Greenssprings Highway, when he saw a white male enter Fred’s through a broken glass door. Suspect was arrested as he exited the store through the broken glass door.

Found on the suspect was prepaid phone cards. Suspect was charged with burglary and transported to Homewood City Jail.

On 3-23-09 at 12:07 p.m., in the parking lot of Wachovia Bank, 425 West Valley Avenue, victim stated he was exiting his vehicle when a 4 door Dodge Charger pulled behind his vehicle. A black male passenger in the vehicle pulled a black handgun and told the victim to give him his money. Suspects left traveling west bound on West Valley Avenue.

On 3-24-09 at 12:30 a.m., in the 1100 block of Willow Run Road, victim stated that he was getting into his vehicle when a Red Toyota Camry, occupied by two black males, blocked him in. One of the suspects pointed a shotgun at him and demanded his cell phone and money. Suspects told the victim to close his eyes and the suspects drove off.

On 3-14-09, at 6:00 p.m., in the 900 block of Mansard drive, a Hispanic male said he was approached by two black males, one armed with a silver handgun. Taken from the victim was his wallet and blackberry cell phone. The suspects left in a small two door brown car.

On 3-14-09 at 8:00 p.m., in the 10 block of Aspen Cove, a Hispanic male said that three black males dressed in dark clothes robbed him at gunpoint. Taken from the victim was his wallet. Suspects left in a 4 door silver Toyota Camry with the letter and number “8V” on the hood and fender.

On 3-14-09, at 8:58 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary alarm at Shades Cahaba School, 3001 Independence Drive. Upon arrival Officers found a window open on the north side of the school near the gym. . Officers located a white male and a white female dressed in black inside the school. Both were placed under arrest for burglary and transported to the Homewood City Jail.

Warrants were signed against three suspects for the robbery/kidnapping that occurred on 2-23-09 in Homewood at the CVS, 418 West Valley Avenue. All three were captured with help of the FBI, Birmingham Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Irondale Police Department.

Thiese arrest led to the closure of multiple cases in other jurisdictions. The suspects will be charged federally for Carjacking also.

On 3-2-09 at 2:52 p.m., Homewood Police Department received a call from a citizen stating she observed a white male tampering with the door of a residence in the 1700 block of Mayfair Drive. Witness observed the suspect leave in a small grey car. Officers located the car on Oxmoor Road and attempted to stop the car. The suspect refused to stop and led Police Officers on a pursuit that went west on Oxmoor Road, north on Clermont Road, and east on Valley Avenue into Mountain Brook. Suspect was stopped in the 100 block of Euclid Avenue where he was placed under arrest.

The car the suspect was in was a 2005 Dodge Neon which was reported stolen. A 32 inch Phillips television was located in the back seat of the car. The T.V. had been taken from the residence on Mayfair Drive.

Between 2-24-09, 11:30 p.m. and 2-25-09, 7:00 a.m., in the 1900 block of Chateau Circle, someone broke out the driver’s window of a 2005 Nissan Maxima and stole a Nuvi 205W GPS unit.

Between 2-20-09, 6:00 p.m. and 2-23-09, 7:00 p.m., someone gained entry into a business in the 100 block of Valley Avenue by tearing the metal siding form the back of the building. Nothing appeared to be missing from the business at the time of the report.

On 2-23-09 at 7:20 a.m., while patrolling the parking lot of a hotel in the 150 block of Vulcan Road. A Homewood patrol officer observed the driver side window broken out of a Ford Escort. Owner located and she said that her Tom Tom GPS was missing.

Between 2-23-09, 6:30 p.m. and 2-24-09, 9:00 a.m., in the 200 block of Summit Parkway, someone broke the passenger side window of a 2001 Nissan Maxima and took a MIO GPS system.

On 2-23-09, at 10:45 p.m., in the 400 block of West Valley Avenue, victim reported that she was approached by two black males wearing bandanas armed with silver handguns. One of the suspects demanded the victim’s car keys and then told her to get in back of the vehicle. The suspects left in the victim’s vehicle and drove north on Greensprings highway, releasing the victim unharmed a few minutes later.

The victim’s car is a white 2002 Toyota 4-runner, tag #60194AW. Also taken was her cell phone, Apple i-touch, Apple i-pod and a gold & silver necklace.

On 2-13-09, at 00:45 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to a robbery call at 185 Oxmoor Road (Waffle House). A caller said they had just been robbed by four black males. Two of the suspects left in a blue Chevy Caprice and were pursued by Homewood Officers into Birmingham where the suspects jumped out and fled on foot. After a foot pursuit, both suspects were apprehended and placed under arrest by Homewood Officers.

The other two suspects stole a white Chrysler Sebring from the Waffle House and Homewood Officers pursued that car to Montello Road where the driver lost control. The suspects ran off on foot. Suspects searched for but not located.

On 2-9-09, at 7:08 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a robbery call in the 30 block of Aspen Cove. Upon arrival Officers spoke to two Hispanic males who said that a blue Honda Civic with tinted windows pulled up beside them and two black males in dark clothing got out and pointed a small silver semi-auto pistol and demanded money. One of the suspects punched one of the victims in the face. Taken from victims were two sets of keys.

On 2-9-08, at 8:00 p.m., a white male attempted to leave K-Mart on Greensprings highway without paying for two ATT Go Phones. When approached by K-Mart loss prevention, suspect fought with the Loss Prevention Officers. Suspect charged with Robbery 3^Rd degree and transported to Homewood City Jail.

On 2-9-09, at 10:15 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a robbery call in the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road. Upon arrival Officers spoke to the victim who said he was stepping out of his car when a four door grey car occupied by two black males blocked him in and the passenger got out with a chrome semi automatic pistol. Taken from the victim was his wallet, keys and cell phone. Victim was punched twice in the face by one of the suspects.

On 2-5-09, between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., someone entered an apartment in the 3000 block of Cedar Path Drive by forcing open a window. Taken was a 20 inch television set, Playstation 3, and a HP laptop computer.

On 2-5-09 at 8:15 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to Wal Mart on a theft of property. Wal Mart Loss Prevention stated that on 2-3-09 at 8:11 p.m. a white male and a black walked out of Wal Mart without paying for a Samsung 26” Flat screen Plasma T.V. worth $543.00.

The suspects were later caught and arrested in Bessemer.

Between 1-29-09, 8:00 a.m. and 1-31-09, 8:00 p.m., in the 100 block of Aspen Court, victim stated someone entered her apartment and took 2 pair of shoes, one racing jacket and 25 DVD’s. A witness said he observed a black male enter the victim’s apartment.

On 2-1-09 at 5:11 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary alarm in the 1200 block of Willow Run Road. Upon arrival Officers discovered a window screen had been removed and the window latch was unsecured. Missing is a cell phone case, cell phone charger and non drivers I.D. card.

On 1-29-09, at 7:50 p.m., victim stated he was leaving Chilis, 209 Statefarm Parkway, when he was approached by a white male asking to use his cell phone. The victim handed over his cell phone and unlocked his car. The white male pulled out a handgun (possibly a glock) and took the victim’s car.

Victim described the suspect as 6’2” 195 lbs, 20-28 years old, wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

The victim’s car is a white 1998, BMW 528i, Georgia tag #427MB.

1-26-09, at 3:06 p.m., Homewood animal control recovered a medium brown dog running loose on Saulter road near Sylvia Drive and took him to Standifer animal clinic.

1-28-09, at 10:15 a.m., Homewood Officers stopped a 2005 Chevrolet Impala in the 100 block of Vulcan Road that was stolen out of Jefferson County. Driver was placed under arrest.

On 1-28-09 Homewood Officers took a report from a business in the 1800 block of 29^th Avenue South. Reporting person stated that on 1-21-09 two white females in the early 20’s came into the store and shoplifted several dresses.

On 1-28-09 at 9:00 p.m. Homewood Officers responded to a call of someone inside a house under construction in the 600 block of Warwick Road. Homewood Officers found Galacio Basave Diaz in the house. He was found to have a Fugitive from Justice warrant and a warrant for deportation. Diaz was placed under arrest and transported to Homewood city jail.

Victim stated he exited his vehicle when he was approached by a black male armed with a black or blue handgun. The black male told the victim to hand over his deposit bag. Suspect left in a smoke grey newer model Hyundai Eleantra or Sonota, partial tag 7635AV. Vehicle was driven by a black male.

Suspect described by victim as 5’7”, 180 lbs wearing a black ski mask.

On 1-20-09 at, 6:23 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a call of two black males attempting to steal a set of car rims off a porch in the 1200 block of Thornwood Drive. Upon Homewood Officers arrival the suspects took off running and after a foot chase both suspects were placed under arrest by Officers.

The suspect’s vehicle was recovered from the scene and impounded. Suspects may be involved in other thefts in the area and are being questioned.

Residence searched by Officers, no one found inside.

On 12-22-08, at 1:00 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a robbery at Microtel, 251 Summit Parkway. Front desk clerk said a black female came into the lobby and pointed a chrome automatic handgun at her and demanded money. The suspect left with the cash drawer and got into a burgundy S.U.V. with no tag occupied by two other people.

Suspect described as a black female, 5’2” 105 lbs. around 20 years old, wearing a brown pullover sweatshirt.

On 12-21-08, at 5:20 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a robbery at Super 8, 140 Vulcan Road. Front desk clerk said a black female entered the lobby and presented a firearm at her and demanded money. Front desk clerk fled and locked herself in the office. Suspect fled the scene. Video shows a black female getting into a small SUV.

On 12-16-08, at 11:15 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a robbery at 180 StateFarm Parkway (Lonestar Restaurant). Manager told Officers that as he was locking up the restaurant he was approached by two black males armed with a revolver and a pistol. They took him back inside and took cash from the restaurant.

Suspect #1 described as 5’9” 185 lbs, wearing a dark hooded jacket and a bandana. Suspect #2 described as 6’0” 160 lbs, wearing jeans, dark hooded jacket and a ski mask.

On 12-12-08, Homewood Officers Observed a Red Pontiac in the driveway of a residence on Valley View Circle. The occupants of the vehicle sped away from the house and Homewood Officers stopped the vehicle. One of the occupants of the vehicle had a warrant with Jefferson County for burglary and was arrested.

A Gamecube system was found in the rear floorboard. Officers went back to the house where the car was seen and found the back door had been forced open. Resident arrived home and said the only thing missing was the Gamecube and gave the particular name of the game that should be in the Gamecube.

It matched the one found in the Pontiac.

Both subjects were arrested were charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and possession of burglary tools.

On 12-10-08, at 9:35 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a robbery in the parking lot of the 400 block of Elder Oaks Way. Victim said he was parking his vehicle when he was approached by two black males who were armed with a stainless steel handgun. Suspects took money from the victim and ran off toward Willow Bend road.

Victim described the first suspect as 6’1” 170 lbs, 20-25 years old wearing black pants and a black and grey hooded jacket. Second suspect described as 5’8” 140 lbs, 20-25 years old wearing black pants and a black vest with no sleeves.

12-08-08, between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., a residence in the 900 block of Gatsby Court was burglarized. Taken was two plasma T.V.’s. No sign of forced entry.

12-09-08, between 8:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., a residence in the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road was burglarized. Entry made by kicking in the front door. Taken was electronics, shoes, clothes and a poster.

On 12-1-08, at 6:30 p.m., Officers responded to a robbery call at Wachovia Bank, 325 West Valley Avenue. Upon arrival Officers spoke to the victim who stated she was making a deposit at the night deposit. A white Chevrolet Impala parked in front of the bank and a tall skinny black male wearing a red hooded jacket, blue jeans, a black hat and sun glasses exited the vehicle and ran up to the victim. Suspect put a small handgun in her face and took the deposit. Suspect pushed the victim down and ran back to the Impala entering the passenger side. Victim did not see the driver of the Impala.

On 12-1-08, at 8:55 p.m., Pizza Hut, 14 Greensprings Highway, was robbed by two black males armed with handguns. Suspect #1 was described as 6’1”, 180 lbs, approximately 20 years old, wearing a skull cap and white jacket with blue stripe. Suspect #2 was described as 5’8”, 130 Lbs., wearing a black jacket and blue jeans with red and gold pockets.

Taken were cash and a purse belonging to an employee.

On 11-29-08, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a Hispanic male stated he was standing in front of his apartment in the 100 block of Aspen Circle, when a gold Ford Expedition pulled up beside him. Two black males exited the vehicle. Both black males were armed with hand guns and had their faces covered. They demanded money from the victim and he told them he did not have any money. Victim was pepper sprayed by one of the suspects and the suspects left the scene. The Ford Expedition was driven by a Hispanic female.

On 11-20-08 at 2:07 p.m., resident was at home in the 400 block of Cedar Path Drive when she heard a knock at the door. She ignored the knock at the door and then heard the door being kicked in. She hid in a closet. Taken from the residents were two televisions and a camcorder.

The suspects are two black males who left in silver BMW.

On 11-17-08, at approximately 11:47 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in the 90 block of Windsor Drive. A witness stated that she saw a white Chrysler Concorde back up to the residence back door. A black male and a black female enter the house. Witness saw the black female exit the house twice, each time carrying a black bag.

The two drove off in the white Concorde going northeast on Devon Drive. Witness obtained a partial tag of 583381.

On 11-16-08, at approximately 7:25 p.m., a Hispanic male was robbed by a black male 5’8”, 185 lbs., approximately 24 years old, wearing a white t-shirt, armed with a stainless steel semi automatic handgun. Taken was victim’s wallet and cell phone.

Suspect left in a silver or light brown Impala or Monte Carlo.

On 11-12-08, at approximately 0459 hours, Homewood Officers responded to a glass break alarm at the ABC store, 261 West Valley Avenue. Upon arrival Officers discovered the right glass entry door had been broken out.

Surveillance video shows a silver Volvo 960 4 door sedan stopped in front of the door. A black male exits the car, breaks the glass with a hammer and take approximately 10 bottles of Crown Royal from the shelves. The tag on the car was not clear.

No suspects at this time.

On 11-11-08, at 11:30 p.m., Homewood Officers responded to a burglary in the 50 block of Aspen Cove. Upon arrival Officers spoke to a black male who had been seen in the area by security guards. After speaking with the suspect, Officers arrested the suspect for burglary and recovered property from recent burglaries.

Suspect was transported to the Homewood City Jail.

Upon arrival the victim told the Officers that a black male 6’3”, 210 pounds, scruffy face, in his late 20’s, wearing blue jeans, armed with a black hand gun, robbed the business and left on foot toward 28^th Avenue South.

On 11-02-08, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Homewood Officers responded to a robbery at 260Oxmoor Road. Upon arrival victim told Officers that a black male punched him in the head knocking him unconscious in front of his hotel room. Suspect then went into the victim’s hotel room and stole a laptop, and several articles of clothing. Suspect described as a black male in his early 20’s wearing a black hat.

On October 29^th, 2008 at approximately 10:00 am, an unknown person broke into a 1989 Chevrolet Suburban that was parked at 216 Green Springs Hwy. The person broke the diver’s window and removed the GPS unit from vehicle. If you were in the area at this time and saw anything, please contact the Homewood Police Department with the information.

On 10-27-08, at 12:31 p.m., Homewood Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Avalon Road on a burglary in progress. Suspect was described as white male, wearing a grey sweater, grey pants and carrying a black bag. Officers searched the area and located the suspect in the area of Wellington View Road. Suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Homewood City Jail.

The suspect may be involved in several burglaries in the Homewood area and is being questioned by Detectives.

On 10-14-08, between 2:00 p.m. and 3:37 p.m., a residence in the 20 block of Edgehill Road was broken into. A handgun and jewelry was taken. Entry made by breaking a porch window. A possibly suspect seen in the area was a neatly dressed older white male on foot, grey hair, wearing an Auburn hat and a backpack.

On 10-15-08, between 10:50 a.m. and 11:50 a.m., unknown person gained entrance through a rear door to a residence in the 300 block of Poinciana Drive. Taken was electronic items.

There were several car burglaries in the Wildwood area (Hilton Garden Inn, La Quinta Inn, Hampton Inn, Residence Inn) last night. Entry was made by breaking open a window. Items taken during the burglaries include GPS units, satellite radios, cameras, and phones.

Suspect vehicle involved in the Burglary of Holiday Inn on 10-13-08 is a red Ford Explorer or Expedition with a tan stripe around the bottom of the vehicle. The suspects have been seen in the area of Valley Avenue and Greensprings selling flat screen TV's for $400.00. Suspect's description: 1 w/m possibly 5'10" to 6'00' tall with a tattoo on his neck and 2 b/m possibly 5'6" tall.

We have received information that individuals are soliciting door to door in Homewood informing people that they are selling subscriptions or collecting money for a Homewood High School baseball trip. The Police Department has contacted Homewood High School and been informed the Homewood Baseball team is not out soliciting money. Accident on Independence Drive

On 10/15/2008 at approximately 2:00 pm, there was an accident at the intersection of Independence Drive (Hwy 31) and Hollywood Blvd. The accident involved a motorcycle and a passenger car. The rider of the motorcycle was ejected onto the roadway and later carried to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the passenger car was upset, but not hurt. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The Homewood Police Dept would like to apologize for closing the intersection for the investigation, but would also like to say thank you for everyone’s cooperation.
