Mesa Police Seek Assistance In Identifying Robbery Suspect

The Mesa Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying a male responsible for 8 robberies in the past week.

Between Thursday, December 30, 2010 and Wednesday, January 5, 2011, the suspect committed 6 robberies in Mesa and 2 robberies in Gilbert. The suspect enters the business and asks the employee if they can make change. When the suspect is told that he must make a purchase for the register to open, he decides to purchase an item. In the majority of the incidents, the suspect seemed rushed and in all of the incidents he leaves on foot. During the Mezona Hotel incident, the suspect was seen getting into the passenger side of a dark green full-size pickup truck. Based on this information, we believe that there are two suspects involved. The locations and dates of the robberies are as follows:

December 30 - Waffle House - 1831 S Country Club, Mesa
January 1 - Starbucks - 1457 W Southern, Mesa
January 2 - Pizza Patron - 345 N Country Club, Mesa
January 3 - Jamba Juice - 1555 N Gilbert, Gilbert
January 4 - Mezona Motor Hotel - 250 W Main, Mesa
January 5 - Golden Spoon - 754 S Val Vista, Gilbert
January 5 - Dunkin Donuts - 1198 E Baseline, Mesa

The suspect (seen below in surveillance photos) is described as a whilte male, 20-25 years old, 6' to 6'2" tall, 170 to 180 pounds, brown/blonde hair with a mustache. In one case, a witness mentioned that the suspect had acne on his face. The male was described as wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. In three cases, the suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, 5'8" tall, weighing 140 pounds. Due to the variance in the physical descriptions, it appears the two suspects alternate who enters the business.

Mesa Police Seek Assistance With Death Investigation

On Friday, November 5, 2010 at approxiimately 7:00 pm, Mesa Police and Mesa Fire responded to a medical call in the parking lot to the northwest of the Goodwill Store, located at 1346 W. Southern Avenue in Mesa.

The victim was found unconscious, lying on a raised landscaping median in the parking lot. There were no signs of bleeding or trauma. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where it was determined that he sustained a life-threatening head injury. On Tuesday, November 9, 2010, the victim died as a result of the injury. Per the medical examiner, the victim could have sustained the injury minutes to hours before being discovered. The manner of death is undtermined.

The victim's family and friends advised the police that the victim was transient and always carried a black back pack, containing miscellaneous clothing, a wallet containing his Arizona driver's license and birth certificate. None of these items were with or near the victim when he was located. It is unknown if these items were taken by force or if the victim left them at an alternate location to be retrieved at a later time.

The victim, James Hector Toruga (34), seen here in photo, is a Hispanic male, 5' 8" tall, 150 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair.

Mesa Police Begin 25th East Valley Holiday DUI Task Force

On Friday, December 3, 2010, the Mesa Police Department will begin working the 2010 East Valley Holiday DUI Task Force. The goal of the East Valley Holiday DUI Task Force is to educate the public about the dangers of driving while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. Our goal is to prevent deaths and injuries caused by impaired driving through continued zero tolerance enforcement during the holiday season. The goal is reached by combining resources from multiple jurisdictions and focusing enforcement activities in specific jurisdictional areas.

Arizona law states that you cannot drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs when your ability to drive is impaired to the slightest degree. The statutory per se law states that an individual is presumed to be impaired if their BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) is .08 or above. The extreme DUI law prohibits you from operating a vehicle if your BAC is .15 or above. A person under the age of 21 is prohibited from operating a motor vehicle with any alcohol in the body.

Police officers from various agencies will join forces and conduct saturation patrols from a different East Valley location each night. Officers will conduct traffic stops for violations they observe. Drivers found to be impaired by alcohol or drugs will be arrested and transported to the command post for processing. Additionally, officers will be enforcing a "ZERO TOLERANCE" policy towards underage drinkers. In addition to uniformed Task Force patrol, plain clothes detectives from the Mesa Police Department and the Arizona State Liquor Board will be working together conducting alcohol enforcement as well. Their efforts will include checks of bars and retail outlets with an emphasis on youth alcohol enforcement and the sale of liquor to minors or underage drinkers.

Taking a cab home will save the cost of being arrested for DUI and prevent you from being involved in a collision that could cost you, or someone else, their life. You can also designate a sober driver.

The message is clear. If you drive impaired, we will find and arrest you.

Boyfriend Arrested For Death of 4-year-old Boy

On December 3, 2010 at approximately 4:00 pm, Mesa officers responded to Banner Baywood hospital for a report of an injured child. Medical staff reported that the 4-year-old male had massive head trauma, as well as additional bruising on his body. Due to the nature of his injuries, the child was air lifted to Phoenix Children's hospital The injuries were so serious that the child was not expected to survive.

Detectives were able to contact the victim's mother, who was not at home at the time of the injury. She said that the child was left in the care of her boyfriend, Jorge Busso (23), while she was at work. Busso was contacted at their residence in Mesa, where he was detained for questioning. Busso said that he was home with the child when he smelled a foul odor and realized that the child had soiled himself. As punishment, the child was pushed into a corner where he was spanked with a belt. Busso claimed that when he was trying to hold the child in the corner, he hit his head on the wall causing the injury. When the victim's mother arrived home from work, she found the child unresponsive, lying in bed. She immediately took him to the hospital for treatment.

Based on the injuries and the admissions, Busso (seen here in photo) was booked for one count of Child Abuse and one count of False Reporting. On December 5, 2010 at 10:39 pm, the child died as a result of the injuries. Busso's charges have been updated and he is now charged with ARS 13-1105, one count of First Degree Murder.

The suspect displayed the listed handgun and took the victim’s car and belongings. On 11/29/10, a male with the same suspect description, driving the victim’s stolen vehicle, robbed Lakeview Cleaners located at 3701 E. Baseline in Gilbert. Please contact Det. Stolen Items: Back Flow Value Devices

Narrative: On several occasions unknown suspects have cut and taken metal back flow valve devices from businesses. The devices are used to help regulate contaminated water from flowing through the business. In order to remove the devices the water must be turned off prior. The devices are then usually cut into several smaller pieces and sold to scrap yards around the valley. #2 – White Chevrolet Fleet style pick-up truck with tool utility body. After market rear bumper with round tail-lights.

Narrative: On 11/11/10 at approx. 0457 hrs, vehicle #1 approached the used battery cage at the Wal-Mart located at 857 N. Dobson. A subject is observed near the battery cage with a tool and leaves in suspect vehicle #1. Suspect vehicle #2 arrives within a few minutes. The Mesa Police Department is seeking information to identify a suspect responsible for a robbery committed at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 365 S. Power Road.

On November 23 at 12:24 p.m., the suspect entered the Wells Fargo Bank and approached the teller, while talking on a cell phone. The suspect opened a black binder, that zips on three sides, and displayed a note demanding money. Next to the note was a short, black revolver pointed at the teller. The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money from the drawer and the suspect put the money into the binder. The suspect left the bank and ran east-bound through the parking lot to an unknown location.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Native American male in his late 30s, approximately 6' tall, 150 lbs., with acne scars on his face. The suspect was wearing a black beanie, sun glasses, light colored jacket (with NAUTICA written down the left arm), blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Narrative: Cox Communications has had approximately one thousand battery thefts Valley wide since February 2010. The batteries are described as being 15.4” to 21.9” in length and 4.1” to 4.9” wide. The batteries weigh approximately 70-80 pounds and are proprietary to Cox Communications. Two possible suspect vehicles are a blue box-type vehicle with black rims and a white van. Suspect Vehicle: Late 1980’s model Buick Century, 4 door, faded red or Maroon peeling, oxidized paint on the roof and trunk.

Narrative: On 10/26/10 at approx. 0941 hrs, the listed suspect entered the Chase Bank and pointed the listed handgun at one of the customers. He demanded the teller give him money or threatened to shoot customer. When the teller hesitated, the suspect shot a round at the bullet proof glass in front of teller. After getting the money, the suspect grabbed an item that belonged to an employee and fled through complex. Please contact Det. Dearing with any information regarding the identity of the suspect.

Assistance Needed To Identify Accident Victim

The accident occurred on Higley at U.S. 60 on Saturday, October 2, 2010 between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. The victim was riding his yellowish, BMX-style bicycle when he was hit by two vehicles. This was not a hit and run. He did not have any identification with him and has not regained consciousness. We do not have any reports for a missing person at this time.

He is a white male, about 5' 10", 185 to 190 pounds with dark, medium length hair. He was wearing tan shorts and dark colored shoes. He is possibly between 18 and 25 years of age.

Local Businesses are Targets of Theft Scam

Since June 2010, the Mesa Police Department has investigated six cases where an unidentified male calls a business and identifies himself as a corporate employee or legal consultant of the business. During the phone call, the male subject states that his niece or nephew was driving from Texas to California when their vehicle broke down in Mesa. The caller requests that an employee of the business deliver money (between $60 and $240) to his niece or nephew in order for them to pay the tow bill. Once the caller convinces the victim to go along with this, he provides them with a location. The caller usually tells the employee that he will pay back the company the following day. The employee later discovers that the caller is not a corporate employee or legal consultant of the business.

Several incidents involving the same theft scam have been reported to the Gilbert, Scottsdale and Tempe police departments. If you have any information or have been a victim of this scam, please contact the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211.

Three Arrested for First Degree Murder

The Mesa Police Department has arrested three suspects in connection with a homicide that occurred on August 28, 2010 in Mesa. The suspects are Carlos Gonzales (22), Sylvia Sainz (20) and Dylan Noack (23).

On August 28, the trio went to 2940 E. Broadway to purchase marijuana from the victim, Leovardo Ortiz (28). The drug deal had been arranged prior to their arrival for Gonzales and Noack to purchase the marijuana. However, when they arrived, Gonzales and Noack pulled out handguns and shot the victim. The drugs were taken and the suspects fled the scene.

Detectives had been following leads on the case since the night of the incident. Today, we are pleased that we have all of the suspects in custody.

CENTRAL PATROL DISTRICT

Although vehicle burglaries are down 20% compared with last year, they have shown a significant increase in the last 30 days. Citizens are encouraged to put valuables out of sight, to keep all windows and doors secured and set alarms. Recording all serial numbers for electronics, including in-dash stereos and other valuables, may assist in property recovery and successful prosecution. Remember that vehicle insurance usually will not cover personal items left in vehicles. Suspicious persons and suspicious activity around vehicles should be reported immediately by calling 480-644-2211.

In addition, commercial burglaries are also increasing. We recommend that businesses continue to install window security laminate, which may deter entry. In strip malls, reinforce shared walls by putting heavy shelving along common walls. This may limit a burglar’s opportunity to enter through vacant adjacent units. Secure all doors and windows, verify security cameras and recording equipment are working properly and set all alarms.

DOBSON PATROL DISTRICT

The Dobson District provides police services for the southwestern section of the City. As of the end of July, Part I Crimes have not increased when compared to this time last year. The numbers are currently trending downward, as we started the year with a 6% increase.

Residential and vehicle burglaries continue to be our significant issues; recent arrests have been made. To help reduce crime, please lock your doors, close your garages and keep all valuables out of plain sight.

RED MOUNTAIN PATROL DISTRICT

July saw a decrease in residential and vehicle burglaries in the Red Mountain District, while commercial burglaries and thefts are up. Even with vehicle burglaries down 9% from the last reporting period, they continue to be a problem near the businesses around the 1600 block of South Stapley. Local businesses are supporting police by distributing vehicle burglary prevention flyers to their customers. Neighborhood Watch meetings, newsletters, e-mails and a concerted effort in adult communities to provide information and additional security has resulted in a decrease in residential burglaries. Thefts are up, with copper taken from street lights, and stadium benches taken from school grounds. An effort is underway to better secure the benches and spray paint the undersides to reduce the value of the metal. Purses are also being left in shopping carts and grocery stores are supporting police efforts by posting notifications reminding people to watch their belongings.

Crime Prevention Tip - With school back in session, please remind children to keep their personal items secure. Use the locker provided and don’t leave cell phones, iPods, backpacks or other valuable items unattended. Keep bikes secured, both at home and at school.

All drivers should be reminded to pay extra attention and slow down in and around school zones and parks. Children should be taught proper safety rules for walking and biking, and should be reminded to look both ways before crossing a street. Bicyclists should be wearing helmets at all times and drivers should be on high alert where children and/or pedestrians are. Take extra care after dark where children riding bikes or motorized scooters or skateboards may be difficult to see.

MESA PD SENIOR POLICE ACADEMY

Since 2004, the Mesa Police Department's Senior Police Academy has provided seniors in our community an inside look at law enforcement. The Academy is modeled after our successful Citizen Police Academy and is designed to provide seniors with an understanding of the operations and resources of the Mesa Police Department. Students interact with police executives and veteran officers during the academy. The goal of the Academy is to provide a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcement's role in our community.

The next Senior Police Academy begins on Thursday, October 14, 2010 and ends with a graduation ceremony on March 17, 2011. Classes meet on Thursday mornings from 9 am through 10:30 am at the Red Mountain Station Community Room, 4333 E University Drive (University & Greenfield).

Potential candidates must meet the following criteria: 60 years of age or older; Reside or employed in the City of Mesa; No prior felony arrests; No misdemeanor arrests within one year of application.

Mesa Police Announce OffenderWatch, A New Sex Offender Database

Police Chief Frank Milstead and the Mesa Police Department announce they are one of the first Phoenix metro agencies to implement the OffenderWatch sex offender database. OffenderWatch allows agencies to collaborate and share information in order to provide law enforcement agencies information concerning sex offender movements, history and activities anywhere in the county or the State. In the near future, additional agencies in the metro area and throughout the state are expected to be online with OffenderWatch.

The OffenderWatch program implements an innovative electronic registration and inter-agency pre-registration and alerting system designed especially for Arizona processes - when an offender is registered with the Sheriff's Office, that information is immediately and electronically made available to the managing agency where the offender lives. Then, Mesa detectives will contact and interview the offender, verify their address, collect additional data, and arrange for the community notification. All data collected about the offender will now be housed in an electronic, internet accessible form, so any law enforcement officer whose agency is online with OffenderWatch will be able to access the record. Also, all data collected on the offender follows with him as he moves from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, enabling much more effective supervision by law enforcement.

The Mesa Police Department is also now making available on their web site, a citizen-friendly, very easy to use sex offender registry, enabling citizens to search for the presence of registered sex offenders in proximity to their homes, place of work, schools and daycares. This information will be accessible any time day or night via OffenderWatch. All partner agency databases are linked together, enabling seamless display of offenders from any jurisdiction in the County or region.

The OffenderWatch database will enable citizens anywhere in the City to view maps and register for notifications concerning offenders that live in areas that are of interest to the viewer. These notifications will be sent to the citizen via their e-mail address. They will be alerted if an offender should register an address within the preferred radius of the citizen's registered address. They can also be notified if a specific offender moves from his or her present address. Citizens may register as many addresses as they like, at no cost to them. These addresses can include homes, work addresses, parks, playgrounds, bus stops, churches, etc.. The purpose of the program is to promote sex offender awareness by proactively alerting the citizens of Mesa should an offender move within close proximity to them.

Narrative:

On 08/21/10 at approximately 0630 hrs, the victim was walking westbound at 1401 W. Pepper Pl. when he was approached by the listed suspects. The victim was struck in the head with a liquor bottle (Suspect #1). Suspect #2 then punched the victim in the forehead. The suspect’s subsequently took the victim’s wallet.

The listed suspects threw a rock thru a window and entered the business demanding money (One suspect was armed with a silver revolver). The suspects had Mexican accents and spoke both English/Spanish. The suspects made out with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene on foot. Please contact Det. White male, 30 years old, 5’8 tall, 180 pounds, almost shaved head- slight brown spiky growth, baggie clothing- white and red striped t-shirt, blue shorts, white tennis shoes. The suspect had an odor of alcohol on his breath.

Narrative: On 08-04-10 at 2326 hours, officers responded to 145 N. Centennial Way reference a disturbance call. The victim reported that while she was cleaning the restroom of the office complex, she was approached by an unknown subject. Narrative: On 08/10/10, at 1608 hours, the described suspect entered the Pharmacy, located at 340 W. University #31 in Mesa. The suspect then walked to the front counter and asked for over the counter medications. During the transaction the listed suspect removed the handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the clerk, stating that this was a robbery. The suspect demanded and was given money from the cash drawer. The suspect left with the money and the medications. The suspect ordered the clerk to the ground and threatened to kill the clerk if he got up. The suspect spoke Spanish during the entire incident. Mesa Police Conduct Intensive Traffic Enforcement As School Begins

In an effort to increase public awareness and keep children safe as the school year returns, the Mesa Police Department will target school zones and surrounding areas with saturated patrols. The increased patrols will begin the morning of August 11, which is the first day of classes for Mesa schools. The intensive enforcement will continue through the first two weeks of classes. While traffic enforcement is a year-round priority for the Mesa Police Department, these high profile areas will be heavily patrolled during this two-week period. Our focus during this enforcement period is two-fold -- The safety of the school children in our communities and education of the motoring public. Mesa police officers will have a "zero tolerance" policy during this enforcement period.

Back to school often means that there are more children walking and biking in our neighborhoods and on our roads. Younger children often have limited experience with traffic safety and often lack the skills to negotiate traffic safely. The Mesa Police Department encourages parents of school-age children to talk with them about traffic safety, to ensure they are aware of the safest route to and from school, including the proper use of crosswalks.

The Mesa Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors who navigate Mesa's roadways to make an extra effort to be safe while driving. Please be on the lookout for children on their way to and from school, to make it possible for all to arrive at their final destination safely.

Tempe Police Seeking Public’s Assistance in Identifying Bank Robber

The Tempe Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a white male suspect who robbed the Desert Schools Federal Credit Union located at 1245 E Broadway Rd on July 30^th, 2010 at approximately 3:30 PM.

After waiting in line, the suspect presented a handwritten note to a teller demanding money from the bank. After obtaining a sum of money from the teller, he left the bank and fled the area on a black sport motorcycle. He was last seen driving east through the bank parking lot. No force was used or threatened and no weapons were seen.

The suspect was described as a white male in his mid 20’d, 5’07”, 160 lbs with a brown goatee, short brown hair. The suspect was wearing a plain dark baseball cap, mirrored sunglasses with orange or pink frames, a long sleeved white baggy t-shirt with a brown polo shirt with horizontal orange stripes over the long sleeved shirt, baggy brown pants and white tennis shoes with dark laces. The suspect also has an unknown tattoo on the back of his neck and possible a tattoo near his wrist(s).

Tempe Police Investigators are asking anyone with any information on this suspect’s identity and/or current whereabouts to contact the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. Desert Schools Federal Credit Union is offering up to $5,000 for original information leading to the conviction of this suspect.

University.

The suspect is seen eating at the restaurant then exits the restaurant and walks south towards the workers pickup. The suspect then pulls next to the workers pickup in his own vehicle and removes some tools from the bed of the pickup then leaves southbound towards Lindsay. Detective is looking for any information that can identify pictured suspect.

NARRATIVE: On 7-21-10 at approximately 1500 hours, two female victims met up with a friend (possibly suspect #1) at 601 S. Alma School Rd, Mesa AZ. The victims and suspect #1 met up with suspect #2 and #3 where they walked to an unknown apartment where suspects #4 and #5 were waiting inside. Once inside the apartment, the doors were locked and suspect #4 and #5 pulled out handguns and pointed the weapons at both victims and demanded money from the victims. After the robbery, the victims were walked out to the common area away from the apartment where the crime occurred. The victims then fled the scene and contacted police.

Former Mesa Teacher Arrested for Sexual Conduct with a Minor

A former Mesa Mountain View High School student teacher was arrested early this morning for having sexual relations with a student. Ray G. Hutson, 35, was arrested at his apartment in Mesa at about 3:30 a.m. today.

The investigation began when Mesa Police were contacted by the parents of the 16-year-old female victim. They reported that their daughter had been arriving home late from work and did not have a good explanation why. They had also been suspicious over the past few months when their daughter had been talking about hanging out with friends and seeing someone named Ray. Yesterday evening is when they learned it was the suspect, Ray Hutson. The victim met Hutson when he was student teaching at Mountain View this past school year. The victim reported that the relationship turned sexual over the past month.

Through the investigation, Hutson was contacted and made admissions to his involvement with the victim. He was taken into custody and has been booked on five counts of Sexual Conduct with a Minor, a class 2 felony.

Video surveillance of the parking lot showed the above listed suspect vehicle park next to the victim’s truck. As the above listed suspects walked past the victim’s truck, they looked into the bed of the truck and walked away from the truck. The suspects walked around the parking lot for about 5 minutes and returned to the victim’s truck. The male suspect then took the power tools out of the victim’s truck and placed them into the trunk of his vehicle. The female suspect was a lookout during this time. Both suspect’s entered their vehicle and drove from the parking lot.

On 06/04/10 three unknown males arrive on foot and broke into several unoccupied trailers at 8265 E. Southern. It is believed these subjects are also involved in burglaries of the same nature at 1101 S. Ellsworth. The subjects are taking misc electronics/tools and are putting them into a duffle bag. They then steal beach cruiser type bicycles from the trailer park in order to haul away the stolen items. So far the incidents occur on different weekday and weekend nights. Specific times are unknown due to most of the victims currently living out of state.

#1 - White male, mid to late teens medium to thick build.

#2 - Hispanic male, thin build early teens.

On 05-24-10 the two listed suspects were discovered trespassing at a private residence located in the 1300 block of west Mountain View Drive in Mesa Arizona. The suspects entered into the residence but fled on foot after being confronted by the homeowner. The suspects were captured on video at both the front and rear doors of the residence. A program of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), the goal of Take 25 is to heighten awareness about children's safety issues.

With a focus on prevention, the campaign encourages parents, guardians, and other trusted adult role models, to take 25 minutes out of their day to talk to kids and teach them ways to be safer. Just minutes of prevention, can make a huge impact in the life of a child.

For the past several years, the FBI has coordinated this event for valley law enforcement agencies. This year, the FBI will not be involved in hosting the event; the Mesa Police Department will bring this safety event to our community.

VEHICLE BURGLARY

On 04-12-10 a victim’s vehicle was burglarized and a wallet was stolen. The victim’s stolen credit cards were later used a various convenience stores by the same female suspect. The suspect’s identity is unknown and she is still outstanding. Please contact the Mesa Police Department if you have any information on this investigation. Refer to report #20101020618.

BURGLARY / STOLEN CREDIT CARD

On 04-12-10 a victims vehicle was burglarized in the 6100 block of East Hillview street in Mesa Arizona. During the burglary the victims credit card was stolen. Later, a female suspect used the stolen credit card at varous business locations in the east valley. The suspect in the photo was seen at several stores using the stolen credit card. The suspects identity is unknown and she is still outstanding. If you have any information on this suspect or this investigation notify the Mesa Police Department and refer to report #20101020705.

ARMED ROBBERY

On April 5th, 2010 at approximately 2311 hrs the Circle K store located in the 1600 block of west Broadway Road in Mesa Arizona was robbed. The suspect who was armed with a knife forced the clerk behind the counter and proceeded to remove an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. The suspect fled the store prior to Police arrival and is still outstanding. Please contact the Mesa Police Department if you have any information on this incident. Mesa Police report #20100950924.

Bike Theft Alert!

Bicycles are a popular means of transportation this time of year. As a result, more are being stolen. It is very important that you take a minute to record the serial number for each bike you own. This includes scooters, three wheelers, and even small children’s bikes and tricycles.

The serial number can be found by turning the bicycle upside down and looking at the bottom of the pedal casing. If there is no number engraved there, simply use a hand engraver to etch your driver’s license number there. You may want to include a telephone number as well. It helps to take photos of each side of the bike, too. Keep all of the above information together in a safe place. If you purchase a new bicycle, record this information and keep it with your receipt. If you do not own an engraver, one can be checked out from the Mesa Public Library or be purchased very inexpensively at any hardware or home improvement store.

Of equal importance is not leaving your bike unattended and always locking your bike. We recommend that you lock both the front wheel to the frame and the back wheel to the frame, then both locks to the bike rack. Do not lock bikes to street signs.

If your bike is stolen, give the Serial Number and any photos you have to the officer taking the report. Without the serial number, even if your bicycle is recovered, we may not be able to give it back to you without proof of ownership. Enjoy the nice weather and obey all traffic rules!

Robbery at the Shell Station

The above listed subjects entered the Shell Station during normal business hours on 01-23-10. Both subjects went to the cooler and each selected a 12 pack of beer. The male subject went to the counter and acted if he was paying for the beer, while the female subject exited the store without paying for the beer she selected. The male subject then began running and also exited the store without paying for his beer. The store employee went outside to follow the subjects. The male subject turned and threw the 12 pack of beer bottles at the employee, striking him in the face and causing injury. The subjects were last seen on foot in the area of Dobson and University. COLD CASE

On August 6, 1994 at 12:11 a.m., the listed suspects started a fight with several subjects at a Fry's grocery store, located at 1244 S. Gilbert Road in Mesa. Suspect #2, pictured at left, allegedly pulled a gun and fired it, killing one subject. The suspects got into the listed vehicle and were last seen westbound on Hampton from the shopping center parking lot. Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Witness at 480-948-6377. Suspect #1: Hispanic male, 20 to 26 years old, 5' 8", 120 to 130 lbs., thin build, black or dark brown shoulder-length curly hair, bushy at bottom, moustache and goatee.

Suspect #2 (pictured): Hispanic male, 16 to 17 years old, 6' to 6' 2", 160 to 165 lbs., thin build, dark brown or black hair shaved close on the sides and combed straight back, possibly a light moustache.

Vehicle: 1972 to 1976 Chevy full-size pickup, primer gray in color, red Arizona license plate.

Assistance Needed in Identifying Homicide Suspects

On Monday, December 21, 2009 at approximately 12:15 p.m., Mesa officers responded to 130 E. McKellips in reference to a shooting. Initial reports indicated that three victims had been shot.

The victims included a father, daughter and son. The mother was in the trailer, but she was not injured. The father was shot several times and later pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The daughter was shot once and is stable, with non-life threatening injuries. The son was also shot once, with non-life threatening injuries.

According to interviews, the daughter was placing a dress in a vehicle in their driveway and saw two Hispanic males, wearing hooded sweatshirts, walk north past her in the trailer park. As she was walking back to her trailer, she saw the suspects running toward her. She was screaming for her father to help her, as she tried to enter the trailer. After entering the trailer, her parents barricaded the door with their bodies to prevent the suspects from entering. One suspect was able to keep the door from being completely closed, and witnesses stated the two suspects began yelling for the family to open the door. They didn't and within seconds several shots were fired through the door, striking the three family members.

A bright red pick-up truck was seen leaving the complex next door to the incident address by a resident. The witness reported hearing shots, then immediately seeing a Hispanic male jumping into the passenger side of the red truck. The truck traveled in reverse and exited the complex through the east exit. Motive is still unknown.

Suspect #1 is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20's, between 5'10 to 6' tall, weighing 150 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white stripe around the hood, blue jeans and black shoes. (See attached composite drawing for suspect #1.)

Suspect #2 is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20's, 5'6" tall, weighing 140 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with red on the sleeves, blue jeans and black work boots.
