The Wichita Police Department's Robbery Section is seeking information regarding a male believed to be responsible for a series of robberies over the weekend.

On May 14th, 2011 at 11:47 PM the QuikTrip located at 1610 E. Lincoln was robbed.

On May 15th, 2011 at 6:00 AM the QuikTrip located at 3216 E. Harry was robbed.

On May 15th, 2011 at 8:10 AM the Dollar General Store located at 2747 E. Boulevard Plaza was robbed.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 40's or 50's wearing a green jacket, blue jeans and white shoes. He is 6'00" to 6'02" and weighs between 190 lbs and 220 lbs. He has short, wavy hair with a little gray. He has a mustache and glasses.

Conway Bank – 11122 E. Central, Wichita, KS

On Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 2:17 p.m., an unknown white male, mid 20’s, about 5’11’’, 150 lbs, wearing a dark hooded jacket and blue jeans entered the Conway Bank and demanded money. The suspect left on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

Robbery of Advance America Cash Advance

On November 27th, 2010 at approximatley 12:42 PM a male robbed America Cash Advance located at 327 N. Hillside. He was described as a black male in his mid 30's, tall, 250 lbs, wearing a black sweatshirt, dark jeans, black shoes and sunglasses. He was armed with a silver handgun.

A second male wearing a ski mask also entered the business. He was was described as 5'06" and 160 lbs.

The first suspect was described as a black male wearing jeans, white shoes, a blue hoodie and a red bandana covering his face. The second suspect was described as a black male wearing jeans, a white tee shirt and a white hoodie.

The suspect was described as a black male, 5'09" tall and 200 lbs. He was wearing dark clothing and used a gray tee shirt as a mask to conceal his face. On October 2nd, 2010 at approximately 10:50 AM, a male robbed Southwest National Bank located at 454 S. Tracy. The suspect was described as being a white male, 25 to 30 years old, 6'00 tall, 170 lbs with buzzed brown hair. He was wearing a black ball cap and a gray zip up shirt. The suspect may have been driving a gray, late model Jeep Cherokee. Legacy Bank Robbery

The Wichita Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in the robbery of Legacy Bank that occurred on 09/10/1.

At approximately 09:40 a.m. three men entered Legacy Bank at 2055 N. Woodlawn. They were armed and took money from the tellers. Two males have been arrested, but a third is still sought.

On 07/10/10 at approximately 0913 Hours, Emprise Bank located at 2323 S. Hydrualic was robbed by an unknown white male. He was described as being 5'09" to 6'00" tall, 185 to 200 lbs. The suspect was wearing dark sunglasses, blue jeans and layered clothing with a long sleeve white shirt on top. He was carrying a military style back pack.

UPDATE on Burglary Suspects!

In the early morning hours on Sunday, June 13, 2010 two men broke into the American Mattress and Clock Gallery at 4300 W. Central Avenue. While inside the store they stole cash and other property belonging to the business.

Surveillance video of the suspects showed them to be white males with dark hair and appear to be in their late teens or 20s. One suspect, who appears to be about 5’11” to 6’0” tall, was wearing a red sleeveless t-shirt and had tattoos on the upper portion of both arms. The other suspect was wearing a dark-colored long-sleeve t-shirt and appeared to be about 6’3” or 6’4” tall.

In addition, both suspects appear to have been involved in the burglary of the Pet World pet story, 601 N. West Street, sometime between 8:15 pm. on Saturday, June 12^th and 7:40 a.m. on Sunday, June 13^th. In that burglary, they stole cash, property and two dogs, both Mini-Pinschers.

Help Identify Robber!

At approximately 4:55 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19^th Wichita Police officers were dispatched to a robbery in progress at the Al-Noor convenience store at 5220 E. 21^st Street North. When they arrived they learned two men had entered the business a short time earlier demanding money from the owner of the business who was behind the counter.

While one of the robbers pushed the man toward the rear of the story, the other robber began trying to open the cash register to steal cash. At that time a man working security in the store was able to confront and began fighting with the robber who was trying to open the register. That suspect was able break free and run from the business.

The other robber was detained by the owner and his security guard and later was taken into custody by officers.

The Wichita Police Department would like the public’s help in identifying the bandit who got away. There has been an increase in residential burglaries on 27 Beat. Most of these burglaries have occurred during weekdays between 7AM-5PM. It is important for you to have good residential security practices such as using deadbolt locks, closing and locking windows when not at home, keeping your garage door closed unless you are in a place to watch it, and calling and reporting all suspicious activity/persons to 911. Free residential security surveys are available through the Crime Prevention Unit by calling 268-4101. We also encourage you to begin a Neighborhood Watch Program.

The Wichita Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in solving a bank robbery that occurred today.

At approximately 10:16 a.m. two masked men entered the Bank of the West at 3055 N. Rock Road and demanded cash from a teller. Both suspects are described only as masked men wearing black hooded sweatshirts. One of the robbers was armed with a handgun.

After the teller put cash in a bag the robbers brought with them, they left the bank and drove away in a white vehicle. That vehicle was located a short time later in the 3000 block of N. Longfellow, about a block west of the bank.

Photos of "Handkerchief Switch" Scam Suspect

The Wichita Police Department is releasing photos of a female suspect in a “Handkerchief Switch” scam involving male senior citizens.

Under the scam, male senior citizens have been approached in the south part of Wichita by a man who speaks very broken English and asks the address of a non-existent motel. In two of the cases reported to WPD victims were taken to a nearby business where a second suspect becomes involved.

In each of the cases the victim is shown a letter by the suspect indicating they have received some type of inheritance, but cannot take the money out of the country. The victim is shown a large amount of cash inside a handkerchief in order to gain the victim’s trust. The suspect then asks the victim to prove he is trustworthy and a “man of faith” by withdrawing cash from his bank for the suspect to hold. Once the victim has turned over the cash, the suspect then hands over the handkerchief that supposedly has the cash inside. At this point the suspects disappear, the victim is out the money he turned over to the suspect, and is left with a handkerchief full of worthless paper.

The first suspect is described as an African-American male, about 5’10” tall with a heavy build and dark complexion. The description of the second suspect varies. The female suspect in the attached photos is described as an African-American woman with a medium to dark complexion, about 5’6” tall weighing about 150 pounds and wearing dark pants, a dark hat and plaid blouse.

Anyone who is approached by someone asking their involvement in such a scheme should immediately walk away and call 9-1-1 or the Wichita Police Department Financial Crimes Section at the number below.

At approximately 10:36 a.m. today a man walked into the Kanza Bank at 2233 N. Greenwich Rd. and demanded money from bank employees. No one was hurt in the incident.

The robber is described as a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, about 5'10" to 5'11" tall with a thin build. He was wearing a red windbreaker with the hood up over his head, sunglasses, white gloves and blue jeans.

The getaway vehicle, a white 2001 Chevy Taho, was found abandoned a short time later in the 2600 block of N. Greenwich.

Beware of Cell Phone Scam

The Wichita Police Department is cautioning citizens to be aware of the latest phone scam that uses citizens’ cell phones. Under the swindle, victims are contacted on their cell phone and told they owe money on a payday or other loan that was never paid back.

The suspect in the case tells the victim he or she is required to pay back money between $500 and $1,500, otherwise “investigators” will come to their home or business, arrest the victim, put the victim in jail for up to three weeks and they will be required to pay a $5000 fine. The caller often threatens to file a complaint with the district attorney’s office if they do not pay the money.

If a phone number shows up on the victim’s phone it will always be an out-of-state number that is connected to an Internet phone provider.

At 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 a man walked into the Walgreens store at 333 W. 13th Street and robbed the business. The clerk on duty reports the man, shown in the photos below, entered the business, walked up to her cash register and put his right hand in his jacket pocket as though he had a gun. The man then demanded money from the register. When the clerk opened the register the man grabbed cash from the cash drawer and ran out the front door.

The suspect is described as an unknown African-American male, between 40 & 50 years old, about 6'0" tall with a medium build. He was wearing a light brown coat, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a gray stocking cap.

At approximately 9:04 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 a woman entered the Fidelity Bank at 3532 E. Harry in Wichita and demanded the tellers in the bank fill a bag with money. The suspect showed the tellers a small silver handgun. After robbing the bank she was last seen possibly headed southbound on Roosevelt in a black mid-size Ford SUV.

The suspect is described as an African-American woman in her 50s, about 5’3”-5’4” tall, weighing over 200 pounds. She was wearing a maroon coat, black stocking cap, black sunglasses, dark pants and tennis shoes.

The woman may be seen in the photo included in this alert. This photo clearly shows a distinctive bag that the woman was carrying. There is also a link below to videos of a red security dye pack exploded following the robbery, tainting both the money and the suspect.

Murder Suspect Sought!

The Wichita Police Department Homicide Section is asking the public’s help in identifying and locating a suspect in the city’s first homicide of 2010.

Shortly before 5:00 a.m. today, the Wichita Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire in the 2700 block of South Topeka. When they arrived on the scene and entered the apartment, they discovered the body of an unidentified 52-year-old woman inside. In addition to burns, the woman had injuries not consistent with a fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Sedgwick County EMS at 5:20 a.m.

The woman’s 1988 brown GMC pick-up bearing Kansas license plate number SXT 744 is reported missing.

The attached photo of the suspect in the case was taken at a nearby QuikTrip.

Warning: New Phishing Scam!

Citizens should be on the alert for a new email phishing scam that currently is making the rounds.

The alert begins with an email alerting the potential victim that their Wachovia Bank online account has been suspended due to numerous failed login attempts. The email then advises the recipient to download an attached form and follow the instructions on the screen. The text of the original email is posted below.

Wachovia Bank has confirmed that the email is a fraud and warns the recipient not to open the attachment. If you receive such an email you should delete it immediately.

Text of email:

“We are sorry to inform you that your Wachovia Bank Online Account has been suspended. A high number of failed login attempts have been recorded on your online account. As a security measure we had to temporarily suspend your account.

To restore your account we have attached a form to this email. Please download the form and follow the instructions on your screen.

NOTE: The form needs to be opened in a modern, javascript enabled, browser (ex: Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3, Safari 3, Opera 9).

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Sincerely, the Wachovia Bank security team.”

Auto Burglaries

The Wichita Police Department is asking citizens in west Wichita to be on the alert for suspicious activity following several recent cases of auto burglaries.

One area is bordered by Meridian St. on the east, Harry Street on the north, Tyler Rd. on the west and McArthur Rd. on the south.

The other area is bordered by Hoover Rd. on the east, 13^th Street on the south, 37^th Street on the north and 119^th St. on the west.

If you see any suspicious activity that includes individuals looking into cars or unfamiliar vehicles in your neighborhood, please call 9-1-1 immediately.

Beware of "Emergency" or "Grandparents" Scam!

Beware of the “Emergency Scam.” In the typical scenario, a grandparent receives a phone call from con-artist claiming to be one of his or hers grandchildren. The caller goes on to say that they are in some kind of trouble, usually a car accident, returning from a foreign country, or even bail money and need money immediately.

Victims frequently don't verify the story until after the money has been sent. The caller specifically asks that they do not want other relatives to know what has happened by asking “Can you please help me? I'm in jail (or in the hospital / or in some type of financial need). But, don't tell Mom or Dad. They would kill me if they found out. Please send the money ASAP.”

Wanting to help their grandchild, the victim sends money by a money transfer company such as Money Gram or Western Union. Beware! If you’re contacted by someone claiming to be your grandchild, make sure you verify their identity or the information about the incident before you send any money. Otherwise, such a phone call is a scam!

Beware of Scam Letters and Emails!

Throughout Canada and the United States, many people once again are receiving "request for urgent business transaction" letters, faxes and emails, usually involving the transfer of millions of dollars. The Wichita Police Department warns citizens to be on the lookout for these scams.

The scam begins with the sender stressing the urgency and confidentiality of the transaction. The sender also stresses the importance of trust and honesty in order to make the reader believe that the communication is valid.

Typically, after receiving a letter the consumer responds either by phone, fax, or email asking further information on the requirements and procedure for the transaction. Once contact is established, the suspect then will normally ask for an upfront “processing fee”. Most letters come with a breakdown of the percentage of money each party involved will receive once the transaction is completed. The sender then is usually requested to send the processing fee. No money is ever rewarded and the scam artist walks away with the victim’s processing fee.

These letters are commonly referred to as Nigerian Letter Scams or West African Fraud Letters. Beware! These letters are all a scam.

The bottom line is this: If you receive any letter that requires you to send a “processing fee”, it is a SCAM!

At about 1:25 a.m. on December 1^st, 2009 a man backed his car through the glass doors of the Kabredlos convenience store located at 11931 W. Central in Wichita. Once inside, the man stole cigarettes worth several hundred dollars.

The suspect is described as an unknown African-American male, about 6’ tall weighing about 200 lbs. wearing a black stocking cap, a white zip-up jacket with black print on the sleeves, a black shirt with yellow and white print on the chest, blue jeans and white Nike shoes. He was carrying a yellow tub in which he placed the cigarettes. The suspect was driving a 1990 model Buick 4-door car that was gray on the lower section, had a sunroof, and paint that was peeling off badly. After he backed into the front of the business and pulled back out, he also damaged the rear window of the car. There was no tag on the vehicle.

Residential Burglary Warning!

The Wichita Police Department recently has seen an increase in residential burglaries on 31 Beat. This area is bordered by Central on the north, Kellogg on the south, Oliver on the east and Hydraulic on the west.

Recently, burglars will enter homes through unlocked garage doors or other doors leading into residences. Once inside the garage, they have been stealing wallets and/or purses left inside vehicles inside the garage. In addition, they steal items from inside the garage such as tools and lawn care equipment. There also have been reports of these burglars entering the residences to steal items such as laptop computers, televisions, cell phones, credit cards and other valuables. In several cases, vehicles inside garages also have been stolen.

If you spot any suspicious activity in your neighborhood, you are asked to call 9-1-1 immediately. In addition, WPD reminds citizens to lock their garage and exterior doors leading from their residences. Since some of these burglaries and thefts have occurred overnight, residents should as a matter of routine make sure all doors, including the garage door, are locked before retiring for the night. Residents who park their cars either inside or outside their garage also should remove all keys from the vehicle and lock it.

INTRUST Bank Robbery!

The Wichita Police Department is asking the public’s help in locating the man who robbed a Wichita Bank yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 3:25 p.m. on November 2^nd, a man entered the Intrust Bank at 1544 S. Webb Rd., handed a bank employee a blue zippered bank bag and demanded the teller fill it with money. The man then pulled a pistol with his right hand and showed it to the clerk and again asked him to fill the bag with money. After the teller complied, the bandit left the bank and headed north on Webb Rd. No one was hurt in the robbery.

The robber is described as a white male, about 30 years old, approximately six feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was dressed in blue jeans, a white button-up shirt, a brown suit jacket, and was wearing black sunglasses and a fake, stick-on brown beard and mustache. The bandit also was wearing a white metal watch or bracelet on his left arm. A photo of the bandit is attached.

RESENDING: Bank Robbery Alert!

Wichita Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the men who robbed a bank this past Friday afternoon.

On October 30^th at 4:10 p.m., three armed suspects entered the Legacy Bank at 2055 N. Woodlawn with guns drawn and demanded money from bank tellers. After making off with an undetermined amount of cash, the trio fled the scene in a stolen vehicle which was later recovered at the Somerset Apartments, 1940 N. Woodlawn. After abandoning the stolen vehicle, the robbers then fled south on N. Beaumont St. in a black 2008 or 2009 Honda Accord four-door. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the robbery.

Truck Theft!

The Wichita Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in helping locate a stolen vehicle.

Sometime between the hours of 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8^th and 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9^th a white GMC 5500 TopKick diesel commercial body utility truck worth approximately $64,000 was stolen from the Donovan GMC dealership in the 5800 block of W. Kellogg.

The truck, which is like the one in the photo, was stolen after two thieves cut the chain on the barricade leading from the dealer’s lot.

The two suspects are described as:

Suspect #1: A white male in his late 30s or early 40s, about 5’7” tall weighing about 240 pounds wearing blue jeans, t-shirt, a black zip-up hoody with silver, white and gold rhinestones and tennis shoes.

Suspect #2: An African-American male in his late 20s, about 5’10” to 6’0” tall with a slender build. No clothing description is available.

Bank Robbery

At approximately 1:42 p.m. today, three men held up the UMB Bank at 2233 S. West Street. The suspects are described as African American males of medium build, wearing gray sweat suits, black gloves and black masks. At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun which discharged during the robbery. One of the bank employees was slightly wounded. His wounds are not considered life-threatening.

The robbers made their escape in a white mini-van with a black scuff mark on one of the doors.

On Friday August 7th, 2009 at approximately 2:55 PM, the Bank of America located at 100 N. Broadway was robbed. An unknown white male is sought in the robbery. He is 55 to 65 years old, 5'10" and 200 lbs. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a green polo shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. He had glasses and wore a wrist watch on his left wrist.

The Wichita Police Department Property Crimes bureau has identified a second suspect in the recent robberies of several cash advance businesses and is asking for the public help in locating him.

The suspect is identified by the Property Crimes as 36-year-old Lloyd Preston Adams. He is identified as an African American male, 5’8” tall, weighing about 205 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, a large build and numerous tattoos. Photos of Mr. Adams are attached.

Robbery Suspect Wanted

The Wichita Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a suspect in two recent robberies.

On Tuesday, July 7, 2009 a man walked into the Popeye’s Chicken store at 1211 N. Broadway and attempted to rob the business. Then, on Sunday, July 12, 2009 a man hid inside the Dollar General Store at 1919 E. Pawnee until closing time and robbed the business of an undetermined amount of cash. No one was hurt in either robbery.

The suspect is described as an African American male in his mid 20s, about 5’9” tall, with a light to medium complexion and weighing about 170 pounds. In both robberies, the suspect was armed with a black handgun.

The Wichita Police Department believes the same suspect was involved in both incidents and is distributing the attached photos and wanted poster for public dissemination. Carjacking!

Earlier this afternoon a suspect carjacked a vehicle from the parking lot of the Bank of America located at 593 E. Pawnee. The vehicle is a white 1991 Chevy S-10 pickup bearing Kansas license tag 456 CDK. The vehicle is being driven by a suspect who is only described as is an African American male in his 30s. Anyone spotting this truck should immediately call 9-1-1 and not try to apprehend the suspect.

Since June 6, 2009 there have been five robberies or attempted robberies at cash advance businesses in Wichita. Based on descriptions provided by victims in these incidents, the Wichita Police Department believes one or two suspects are involved in these robberies.

Sport Bike Riders Beware!

The Wichita Police Department is urging motorcycle riders in the Wichita area to be aware of their surroundings following two recent incidents where armed suspects attempted to rob individuals of their sport bikes.

At 12:30 a.m. today a man approached two men who had parked their sport bikes in the parking lot of the QuikTrip at 1010 E. Douglas asking for help in pushing a vehicle which he claimed had broken down. He was turned down, then after donning a disguise, the man reappeared armed and demanded they leave their keys in their motorcycles as two other men wearing helmets appeared and were ready to steal their bikes.

The victims in this incident ran into the convenience store as the suspect with the pistol opened fire on them. One of the victims was struck in the pant leg but was not wounded. The other victim was unharmed. Seven shots were fired at the two victims, and two vehicles and a business were struck by the gunfire. One of the victims reported the three suspects also attempted to rob him of his motorcycle at knifepoint in northeast Wichita last weekend.

Burglary Alert

The Wichita Police Department-Patrol West has seen an increase in residential burglaries over the past 30 days. Most of the break-ins have occurred during the late afternoon or early evening hours. Entry has through a forced door or a window. The main items suspects are taking include electronics, such as TV’s, game systems, and DVD players. Citizens in the Patrol West area (19 and 199 Beat) should on the lookout for people they do not know knocking on front doors and walking into the back yards of homes.

Possible suspect description(s) include a white male in his 30’s with reddish-blond hair and a tattoo on his forearm, also a white female approximately 5 feet 6 inches 200 pounds with reddish-brown hair. They have a newer model silver four door vehicle with a Missouri tag.

"Green Dot MasterCard/Visa Scam

The Green Dot financial card packaging fraud has been occurring in the Wichita area since early March, 2009. Retailers are urged to be aware of and not fall for this scam. Here’s how it works:

A customer will attempt to purchase merchandise or a pre-paid credit card and pay for their purchase with a “Green Dot” prepaid MasterCard or Visa card whose magnetic strip has been deactivated. Such cards are attached to paper/cardboard packaging. To approve the transaction, the unsuspecting cashier will try unsuccessfully to swipe the Green Dot card with the packaging attached. When the swipe is unsuccessful, the cashier then will enter the card number which is displayed on rear of the cardboard packaging above the actual card’s magnetic strip.

Unbeknownst to the cashier, the thief has used a label-making device to make and affix a label in the font style of the genuine Green Dot card packaging. That number will have been taken from a stolen Visa or MasterCard. Once the cashier manually enters the card number from the rear of the cardboard packaging, the transaction will be approved.

All retailers need to educate clerks and cashiers to not manually enter financial card numbers from such packaging. Doing so by-passes the security features of the card and produces an authorization number, even though the paper packaging has no value and the card number is stolen. Entering/using these numbers is also a crime.

Businesses that have been accepting these fraudulent, non-negotiable Green Dot pieces of paper include pawn shops, convenience stores, hardware stores, restaurants, grocery stores, large chain discount stores, and large chain retail stores in Wichita, Park City, Valley Center, Maize, Newton. It is likely other communities around Wichita are also experiencing this scam.

This fraud can only be stopped if local merchants educate their staff members.

Merchants with video and transaction documents for known Green Dot package fraud cases should contact the Wichita Police Department Financial Crimes Section.

Businesses also need to treat nightly financial card batch reports, which contain full card numbers, card holder names, and expiration dates, as very sensitive personal information. They need to limit access to these reports to necessary employees only . Such printouts must be secured in a locked file cabinet or safe, and should be shredded and purged periodically.

Debit Card Scam!

The Wichita Police Department has been receiving reports lately from financial institutions in the area that a new credit card “phishing” scam is targeting citizens around Wichita.

Under the scam, citizens have been receiving text messages on their cell phones notifying them that their debit card has been deactivated. The message then asks them to call a toll-free 800 number to re-activate their card. Those who call the number are instructed by a recording to use the telephone number pad to enter their credit card number, their PIN number and the expiration date of the card. The thieves then use software to record these numbers and begin making fraudulent charges on the victim’s debit card.

Anyone who receives such a text message, email or phone call asking for such information should not respond and report the incident on the FBI’s website, www.fbi.gov.

Hit & Run Injures Child

The Wichita Police Department is asking the public’s help in locating a hit-and-run driver who injured a child in south Wichita on Thursday, May 14th.

At about 5:05 p.m. a 7-year-old boy was crossing the street in the 1900 block of South Topeka when he was struck by a pick-up truck. The boy darted out in front of a legally-parked ice cream truck and was struck by a southbound black, full-size pickup truck with tinted windows. The truck, possibly a Toyota Tundra, did not stop and continued southbound.

The boy, who was taken to a local hospital with a compound fracture to his left leg, is expected to survive his injuries.

The Wichita Police Department has seen an increase in residential burglaries within your neighborhood over the past 30 days. Attempted Child Abduction

The Wichita Police Department is asking the public’s help in locating the driver of a vehicle who attempted to abduct a six-year-old girl on Friday, May 8.

The child’s parent reports the suspect in this case offered the child candy and attempted to pull her into his truck at around 4:20 p.m. on Friday, May 8. The incident happened in the 4400 block of S. West Street.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 35 years old wearing clothing of an unknown description. He was reportedly driving a late 90s black Chevy short-bed pick up with an extended cab, dark tinted windows, red stripes on the sides, and a lift-kit. The letters Z71 appeared on the rear of the truck in gold. In addition, the truck had loud exhausts and two large antennas on the back.

Shotgun Robber Sought

The Wichita Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying and apprehending a suspect who has robbed three hotels and an auto parts store during the month of April.

The first robbery took place at the Auto Zone auto parts store, 9701 E. Harry at about 9:45 p.m. on April 15^th. The second robbery occurred at the Garden Inn Suites hotel, 7321 E. Kellogg at approximately 1:10 a.m. on April 23^rd. The third robbery was committed at the Holiday Inn Select Hotel, 549 S. Rock Rd. at approximately 4:05 a.m. on April 26^th. The fourth robbery took place at the La Quinta Inn, 7335 E. Kellogg at about 1:58 a.m. on April 27^th.

In each case the suspect, wielding a shotgun with an extended magazine tube and a pistol grip, demanded money from the employees. He is described as a white male in his early to mid 20s, between 5’10” and 6’0” tall, about 150 pounds with a slender build and blond hair.

Robbery Suspect Sought

The Wichita Police Department is asking for the public assistance in identifying and apprehending the person involved in the robbery of three local hotels since mid-April.

The first robbery occurred on Sunday, April 19, 2009 around 9:00 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 9449 E. Corporate Hills Dr. The second robbery occurred on April 26, 2009 at approximately 10:10 p.m. at the Courtyard Suites, 2975 N. Webb. The third robbery incident occurred on Thursday, May 7, 2009 around 10:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Inn located at 333 S. Webb.

In each incident the robber is described as an African American male, between 5’3” and 5’10’ tall, weighing between 160 and 180 pounds, and wielding a black handgun. In each robbery, the suspect was wearing a navy blue or black hoodie, blue pants or blue jeans with a dark colored bandana covering his face.

Credit Union Robbery

Wichita Police need assistance with identifying a robbery suspect at the Telephone Employee’s Credit Union. The Robbery occurred on 4-30-2009 at 4:10 PM at 270 N. Broadway.

The suspect is a White Female, 30s, 5’4” 180 pounds, Brown Hair pulled back under a blue with white front panel cap with a logo, dark large glasses – the type used after cataract surgery, a dark windbreaker, and blue jeans.

Her vehicle was a 2000s Silver Buick 4 Door with possible tinted windows.

Copper Thefts Increasing!

Due to a recent increase in the price of scrap copper, the Wichita Police Department has begun to see an increase in copper thefts. In a case this week, thieves did approximately $200,000 damage to a building under construction that is owned by the City Water Utility.

Citizens are encouraged to keep a watchful eye out for anyone who may be trying to steal copper from field lighting systems, air conditioning coils, copper electrical wiring and piping from homes under construction, vacant buildings or buildings being remodeled.

In addition, businesses that use copper in wiring, plumbing and for other processes should be alert to suspicious activity, especially after business hours. Businesses are encouraged to install surveillance video and alarm systems to ward off and help in the apprehension of metal thieves, and add fencing to make it more difficult for the thieves to steal copper.

Stolen Equipment

Stolen Statues

Bronze statues of a boy and a horse were stolen from a pair of Ritchie Development properties over the past several weeks. The boy was stolen the night of March 12^th from Monarch Landing in east Wichita, and the horse was taken between Feb. 27^th and March 1^st from 8700 E. 22nd St. North.
