Timely Warning Notification: Sexual Misconduct On Campus

On September 27 at 00:27 hours (12:27AM) UVM Police Services received a report of a sexual assault that occurred at UVM Fall Fest in the Patrick Gymnasium. A woman reported being forcibly groped by a male suspect, who then allegedly put his hands inside the woman’s pants.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’8”-5’9” tall with a medium build, a muscular face, and an angled jaw. He was last seen wearing a white T-Shirt with some red and a black horizontal stripe.

If you or anyone you know had a similar experience, or you have any information about this incident, please contact UVM Police Services at 802-656-3473.

To learn about common myths and facts about sexual assault, we encourage you to review this handout, created by the StepUp Bystander Intervention Program (http://stepupprogram.org/docs/handouts/STEPUP_SexualAssault_Myths_and_ Facts.pdf).

Members of the university community who wish to learn more about UVM’s policies, how to report such incidents if they occur, and helpful resources on campus and in the community are encouraged to review UVM’s Sexual Conduct & Education website (http://www.uvm.edu/~aaeo/sexualmisconduct/).

Report suspicious activity to UVM Police Services at 802-656-3473. In an emergency, call 911.

"Crime Awareness" is an integral component of "crime prevention." Knowledge that crimes occur encourages communities to actively participate in crime prevention efforts (e.g., locking doors, not walking alone, reporting suspicious activity to police) and, therefore, creates a safer environment. Lack of information invites complacency. The following message was approved for campus-wide distribution by the Department of Police Services Chief/Director Lianne Tuomey to advise you of these incidents, to promote safety on campus and, in part, to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1990.
