Update /SWAT Call
**UPDATE** At 10:30pm this evening the standoff has been resolved. Unfortunately, the suspect involved in this incident died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This incident continues to be under investigation.
On 01/14/2021 @3:15pm officers were dispatched to 7500 block of 83rd Ave on a report of a suspicious male walking through yards. An additional caller reported that the male had broken into his home and had fled on foot. Upon arriving, officers were flagged down by another family that reported a male had just broken into their home. Several children fled the home when the intruder entered, however, the suspect found a 7-year-old child hiding in a closet and refused to let him go. The male suspect reported that he was armed with several guns and refused to surrender. SWAT and a Crisis Negotiator Team were called to the scene. After an extended period of time, the release of the 7 year old child was successfully negotiated and he has been returned to his family unharmed. The suspect remains barricaded and refuses to surrender at this time. We are asking residents to stay out of the area until this situation is resolved.
